What they don't tell you is that this woman attempted suicide by taking pills. She passed out and her newly aquired dog ate her face. Personally I don't think she deserves the face since she was trying to kill herself in the first place. She would have left behind 2 teenage daughters had she been successful. The ethical boundaries in this case have been surpassed in so many was its astounding! Research people...research!

I THOUGHT...and I may be wrong...but I thought the very first face transplant JUST took place on a woman who's husband shot her in the face. Only a couple of weeks ago the doctors made an announcement and introduced her to the world on all of the major news networks. However, I do realize that she was introduced as the VERY FIRST SUCCESSFUL FACE TRANSPLANT. Maybe that's the difference. I will find a link and post it here.

To their credit, the only reason the first US transplant case looks that way is because they have to allow nerves to grow in the new facial tissue; they'll also trim away loose skin as the nerves grow. I think it'll be a year before we can accurately say which case was "better".

this is freaky, and i dont mean that in a bad way. its just strange to me to see these things knowing a miracle was worked on me as well although in a different way. i had a heart valve replacement 7 yrs ago, and unfortunately i have to have it again in a few months, but i am and will be back to normal for the most part afterwards. unless you go thru something like that you can never truly understand, these guys worked a major feat of medical science. i applaud them, and best wishes to her.
