That's why you've got to be sure to replace the food and water every couple of days. But seriously, you've highlighted an important point; having food and water available = very imp! The more water, the better! I scatter the food, so if the hamster doesn't feel like leaving one part of their habitat, they don't have to. I very much doubt the hamster is going to get lost (trust me, rodents are AMAZING at visual mapping) but it is imp. to check on your hammy AT LEAST several times each day

I've got news for you, they would climb like that in the wild. They live in burrows even bigger than any of those cages are AND they leave to burrow once the sun has gone down to go and look for food. They would cross miles of desert just to find their food, each night. A hamster could handle any of these cages, easily!

I don't know if you've had a lot of hamsters, but when I'd like my hamsters to come to me, I call them and they do...every time. But I don't over-do it, if they didn't want to come, I wouldn't start opening it all up to get to them. Whether they come to me is their choice and I respect that. Maybe that's why they come to me, because they know I respect their space, I dunno...
