I would love to have a tank like this but I'm college right now so I can only content myself with my female betta Arwen. Love your tank though- jealous!
my tropical fish tank has gone completely green for some reason but the fish are surviving in it but i cant figure out whats wrong with it anyone know??
@IwanRowlz must be a type of plant/mold called algae. its doesnt do any harm, but i suggest cleaning the tank even though its edible for most fish. so it wouldnt surprise me if they are fine.
Beautiful tank =). I recently bought different lighting and my fish looove it. I'm thinking of buying some neons. I have 6 cardinals and plan to buy aobut 4 more. WOuld ten neons be a good amount as well?
If youve got 10 cardinals then I wouldnt bother with neons as well as the look almost similar. Try different shoaling fish such as zebra danios, rummy nose tetras or even harlequins.
i was hopeing to get a new aquarium soon and try some real plants for the first time so i would really appreciate any knowlage about anything special i'll have to do to keep the plants alive
you can get plants but they have to be very tough and strong,
i regularly put in cucumber so they do not eat the plants. a little plec will be OK with slightly softer plants but if you are planing to get a large plec very tough plants needed
so if i were you i would get the toughest possible and grow it on some bog wood as the wood helps to keep it strong and attached
I have the same tank-style as you from the sound of it. my tetras used to do tht too when first added...its was something they stopped doing with time. Although ensuring you leave open spaces is always a gd thing. tetras enjoy open areas just as much as dense plant cover.
i give u 5/5 such a nice tank better then mines duhh cause i only got 1 fish and that's a catfish i caught it in the stream its freshwater and how do u keep it so clean do u clean it like everyday or something i clean mines once a month lol.

hey, nice tank i have a somewhat large catfish and i am having trouble making a cave that is suitable got any tips? He is nocturnal so i need some help a.s.a.p thanks
Kirkenbunken: where do you see platys? And this tank might be great from an american point of view. To me it looks like a mess.
Natural? do you think that ppl feed the fishes where they come from. Most of the aquarium fishes are 100% natural, so they need real plants, real sand and real feed. Plastic plants, colored gravel and man-made food just doesn't do it.
Considering the fact fish breeders don't even have plants in their tanks, I don't think it matters if they have a natual setting. The plants are beautiful. Having live plants is benificial to the fish.
Great tank. I suggest the addition of some dwarf African Frogs. I had a tank once with some cory's and african frogs and they bonded and followed each other around. It was funny as hell. I like the tetras and the platys. I really like your use of natural plants and the lush set up of them you have.
Hey, very nice tank you have there. I was just wondering what kind of substrate do you use? Plain gravel or special aquatic plant soil? And also do you add any fertilizer to the tank? Thanks because I really want to set up a tank like yours.
Thx....the tank is 36"(90cm)x12"(30cm)x15"(40cm) and about 20 gallons (100L). The fish in there are neon tetras, Harlequin rasboras, panda coridoras, black widow tetras, cherry barbs and a couple of Blue Rams.
Thx! No the apple snail and the amano shrimp don't need any special care. They feed from any left over food from the fish, although 2 or 3 times a week I give them (fish included) a couple of algae waffers which they love.
Gorgeous aquarium! Nice arrangements of plants although that sword is going to be a tank buster if it's a true Amazon (Echinodorus amazonicus). And hey with that ground cover in the background don't be surprised if your Panda Cories start to multiply. ;)
Thx! yes the broad-leafed plants in the foreground are Anubias nana...the big one at the back is an Amazon Sword. I'm glad you like the tank and that make you relax! Lol..It has the same effect on me ;0)
Thx. It's about 20 British Gallons. As I said many of the fish are quite small in size and I got 2 internal filters which help with the biological load.
Thanks for all the positive comments. Right now I have around 40 fish in there, although most of them are small Tetras & Rasboras. The biggest fish are a pair of Kribensis. Sharing the aquarium with the fish are some Amano Shrimp and Trumpet & Apple Snails.

How often do you clean that tank?? And are you just using normal gravel or do you put the plants in a special substrate?
djneil12 3 years ago
I heard you dont need any special substrate. i saw a really awesome tank with nothing but gravel.. not even CO2! just search on youtube:
"Soccer fish tank community"
(make sure you type soccer... it will be the first vid. hope this helps. good luck. i too am planting my tank :D
yuriogy1 3 years ago
no substrate means the choice of the plants..[Microsorum such as Java Fern, Bolbitis, Anubias] all of them can be attach to rocks or driftwood..
no CO2 means you have to do more water changes..
actually, the real concept of planted tank was "how to create an ecosystem in an aquarium"..
