The Pens should retire number 10 as a tribute to him. He is the greatest 2 way hockey player ever. Very quiet and learned respect from Dave Keon early in Hartford. Ray Shero please retire his number 10 forever
We loved him here in Pittsburgh... our jerk of a GM treated him so badly before he left. He was always the epitome of class and grace. He will always be the only "10" in my book here....
Best part of the vid is the All Star Game in 1986 in Hartford, eventhough Ron Francis was injured, I have never heard the HCC that loud to this day when they announced Ronny Franchise.
Not only was Ron an amazing hockey player, but he is a great person! I know his kids and I've met him a few times. He is kind, caring, and a great father.
Ron Francis was THE best that ever played when factoring in all that he did for his teams both on offense and defense. He is a Leader both on and off the ice.
Thats the difference from coming from Hartford ... We know he is better than moose and yzerman ... he has more in common with howe and gretzky than the others ... he really is the best all time underrated player
It's sad, Francis is and always will be my fav NHLer. I grew up watching him on the penguins tearing it up, it was then when i learned the games of hockey. I was gutted when he got benched on the leafs without explanation.
Where i come from NOBODY knows ron francis and people ridcule me cos i say things like hes better than Moose and Yzerman
No doubt one of the most underrated players to play the game. Greatest face of man i've ever seen and a player who knew how to play both ends of the rink. I was ticked when the Pens let him go.
Definitely one of the most outstanding players in all times NHL. 10-66-68 trio in Pens was simply undefendable. His captaincy and leadership effect fo team was the same level as Messier´s. And his personality was with no doubt one of the best of all greatest players ever.
Ron Francis is simply the greatest hockey player that never was talked about... it's so wierd now a days and hear everyone from all over the NHL talk on how great he was... while he was in Hartford is was just simply Ronny... He never really had the media spot light like others ... He is by far the greatest Hartford Whaler ever ... Ron Francis has to go into the Hall of Fame as a Whaler
The NHL was quizzing a bunch of Canadian kids and asked who had the second most assists in the NHL, and no kid got it right (this was a few days after he got assits 1,170 also). I was stunned that no one knew about Francis.
He was one of the classiest players ever, and it's a shame he never won the Cup with the Whalers/Canes franchise.

@waggeo99 I could not agree more, I'm also surprised that they haven't retired his #. Then again the NHL is slow at evolving at anything.
