@Gelu84 In short: Don't use your hands to pull yourself up, use your body and your legs. In this problem the climbers didn't have enough grip to pull themselves up. It was just enough to hold them while standing, pulling with the hand resulted in loosing grip completely. So they had to move the body to the side to get the foot up and then push with the feet.
