omg you charged it on your bed...... it says everywhere charge 2 feet away from anything flamable on a concrete surface. unless your ready for the risks with lipo's you shouldnt be using them.
Or you can find the relavent cordless hand tool powerpack like De-Walt, and strip that down. Don't ask exactly which one though, as I don't yet know. ;-)
your welcome, but there is also the new LIFE which is a Lithium Iron, it puts out the same amount of power as a lipo but not explosive. and not as dangerous. ***But*** it costs twice as much as a A123 pack (liion) and 3 times as much as a Lipo pack... BIG DOWNSIDE!
hey retard i thought the LiFe were the same as the A123 but just kind of an upgraded version but possibley mistaken on that......... however they are not as powerfull this i know not the volt significantly less
While driving my car with an 8000 Lipo battery I found that I would loose control when I hit full throttle. It would do a wheelie, dance on its rear wheels and then cart wheel and crash (all within about1 second).
With the 5000 lipo I can keep up with my friends cuz they end up slowing down for corners or loose control when they tried to launch down a stright away.
Its all fun no matter what battery you are running, I am quite happy with my 5000 Lipo.
Hey buddy, news flash.....mAh has nothing to do with power/punch output voltage. mAh is simply the battery's capacity. The mAh shows you how long the battery will last when running it. ie-a 5000mah will last longer than a 3000mah. The amount of cells in the battery and the "C" rating give the battery it's punch and power.
@monster271 You do realise that mah * C rating = total OUTPUT amps?? So yes, the mah DOES matter when referring to punch.
It is why you cant/shouldnt use a 2200mah 20C in an offroad car, but it is fine to use a 5000mah 20C in the same car - and I'm not just talking about runtimes.
@locksmack Well, if that's so, I sure can't tell the difference in punch between my 1800mah and my 3800mah all the way up to a 5000mah. But I can tell the difference between a 30c battery and a 40c. Just my opinion.
@monster271 News flash...mAh has a lot to do with output. No it has nothing to do with voltage because amperage and voltage are two different things but amperage is "Off the line punch" and voltage is "speed". A 5000mAh 20C 2S puts out more amperage than a 4000mAh 20C 4S. Thats what these bigger brushless motors rely on is amperage more than voltage i.e. Mamba Monster. they rely more on torque than voltage to get those bigger trucks moving.
@UGotKilledByACamper What's with all the name calling? What are you? 4 years old? I guess if I was 4 too, I would cry I guess. Man, if you would listen, you might get down off your high horse and learn something. Can you not comprehend a simple thing??
@monster271 Lol, well appearantly youre in the same boat i am. before you post stuff and point out other people are wrong, think first and actually aquire some knowlegde in that itty bitty brain of yours, before you start posting stuff that your oblivious too, like rc batteries.
@monster271 what the fuck are you retarted? The "C" rating you are talking about is the currents @ discharge...the c has no affect in power ....the more S's and amount of volts in a lipo and more mah=milliamp hours affect the speed and run time you ingnorant ... perfect example ... an 11.1v 3c 8000mah 20c lipo will have 150% more power than a 7.4v 2s 4000mah 35c lipo...i bet you dont have a lipo powered car... even if you do gimme ur email so i can show you what a real r/c truck looks like.
@07STINKYBOY I realize that. Of course the more CELLS you add, the more power you will get. Do you understand that the "S" after a 1,2,3,4,5, or 6 refers to the number of CELLS in the battery? Not the discharge rate. The C rating is power at discharge ("C burst"). That's the power I'm referring to. I will get more power out of a 7.4v 2s 5000mah 40c lipo than with a 7.4v 2s 5000mah 30c. I realize I was wrong in my first comment about milliamps. Not sure what I meant to type....
@07STINKYBOY Oh, and let's get one thing straight without all the immature name calling. I have 5 Lithium Polymer powered RC cars. They are all race cars that I race at our local tracks. I don't bash. I build all my cars from kits. I used to MAKE all my NiMH batteries. I help build my friend's vehicles as well. We race on a regular basis, and have for a long time. I've seen it all. I have seen LiPos blow up, and over the time I've been racing, I've owned well over 50 LiPos.
@monster271 what cars do you have then some frickin gay hpi or losi shit...hahaha
idk why u have ownd over 50 lipos ive never busted one...cause its called a good charger and you should never balance your lipos....i know it gives it morer run time but...it makes them last forever ...(why put currents where the currents dont want do go?) thats how i look at it....my DH bike , my motorcycle, my truck, and my r/c cars are are all better taken care of and are better than yours mister bigshot.....
@07STINKYBOY Ok. Yeah. All hail the mighty STINKYBOY. His toy cars are all perfect! Let it be known that all of STINKY'S cars are better than everyone elses!!!! @monster271 not in lipos thats only in nickel metal hidrides....and c's have nothing do do with power i have an old venom pack from 2007 and its a 3c 11.1v 4700mah 15c pack and has more power than my orion 3s1p 3800mah 11.1v 20c pack...
@monster271 well, i would agree with you, but more mAh usualy does give some extra power. I have 2 traxxas batteries, both same everything except the mah and i get a little more power out of my 4200 than my 3000

@monster271 Ha, yea anything for a rustler owner lol, im going to be getting a vxl for christmas, hope i get to drive it outside before it snows to much lol
@monster271 ok yes it is true that a 5000 will last longer than a 3000... but c is the output of the battery times however many c's ex. a 5300 65c lipo has a output of 344500 mah then a 4000 mah 65c lipo has only 260000 mah miliamps an hour so the 5300 is a more powerful battery than a 4000 battery or a 4000mah 7c 7cell is more powerful than a 3600mah 7c 7 cell

For under $100 you'll have to buy something used of ebay or from your local classified ads. Try going to a local RC racing club for some advice before you buy aything. For truchs like the one in the vid, you'll still be paying 300/400 used!
i got the xl-5 but its "not in shape" anymore. one wheel spinning faster than the other and the top speed on 3300 mah 7.2 V is about 10-15 mph so i dont bother upgrading it. instead im gonna by a vxl with a 4900 mah 11.1 V 3s 25 c lipo.
bro... i could not agree more with ya!! I think all these people take time putting music in these rc videos when all i REALLY want to hear is the actual car/truck, and the motor.. FRUSTRATING.... augghhhhhhhhhhh
lucky i only could afford the normal rustler, but im saving up to upgrade a TON and i mean a TON of parts. i want to put $300-400 into it over the next few months
yeah you can use up to a 3cell lipo 11.1 v thats what i run and you could use a 9 easy its less powerful most are like 9.9v or something not sure lipos are better because there more powerful and much lighter
actually it's Lithium Iron Phosphate with Nano technology. I run a 3s 10v pack in my brushless rustler and a 2s 6.6v pack in my brushed rustler. Awesome batteries, I love them!
Really... It's Lithium Ion with nano-technology, the actual chemistry is Lithium Iron Phosphate.
I just finished a college engineering project where we built a pack of 1200 cells for a 200hp electric motorcycle. I know these batteries very well... I also built my own packs for my rustler and they are awesome. Only bad thing is they don't run as long as an equivalent Lithium Polymer, but they're much safer to use.
You have to realize that R/C cars don't use nano-tech, the batts aren' that advanced nor that expensive. They are just toys, no matter hoe much fun it brings.
I suggest putting losi XXX-T-CR 2.5 shocks in the back, Revo shocks in the front, and putting in a ball differential to make is like a XXX-T but faster and quieter.
Traxxas is notorious for being poorly designed with durability in mind.
I used to laugh at y friends who had supped up T-maxx trucks, which would constantly break from day to day. My good ol Savage didnt have the take off their's had, but it almost never failed me, and would imbarras then in a hill climb, or hook. It jumped better to.
The only thing it didnt have on them was take off. Top speed was about the same, when those junk 2.5 motors would run thatis
I will agree that the T/E-Maxx are prone to breakage but the Rustler can take a beating like no other...I had the XL-5 and drove it like a crazy man...it never broke. I just ordered a VXL and look forward to it's arrival...I have an e-maxx full alloy brushless and yes it constantly gives me problems
you'll like the VXL: it's fast, light, and very fun. Also, I would warn you to tighten up all nuts, bolts, and other such items. I had to spend 2 hours combing a parking lot with a magnet to find the rear tire nut when it worked loose.
Nice vid man, im thinking of getting one. but why do evrybody have music instead of the real sound in their videos. its much more funny to hear the car
What are the runtimes w/ an A123? Can't decide btwn A123 & LiPo, A123 seems safer but do you get long runtimes out of it? Seems like you get power out of it!! Nice vid
The runtime with this 3s A123 2300mAh Pack is 10-15 min.Sure, with a 4000mAh Lipo Pack the runtime will be longer and maybe more Power.
But with optimal gearing the A123 Pack has enough Power for me. Lipo i would only take for an onroad car but not for bashing and offroad.
One wrong jump or crash the lipos will burn youre car down. You can build a hardcase for them, then id would be safer, but i want to ride like i want and not what the lipos want:)
Do you have the A123 cells from a123racing dotcom? I was wondering the shape of the pack and how it fits in your rusty. Did you have to mod the batt tray or just strap them in there? Also what is your "optimal gearing" or what are you using in the vid?
Nice place ;)

A 3S 11.1 5000 Mah Lipo is the only way to go!!!!
You can go 8000 but it weighs a bit more and can slow the car down.
doogiediamond 2 years ago
Does it not say on the traxxas site that it needs an 8000mah battery to reach higher speeds? Have a look.
Oneiva 2 years ago
I have tried an 8000mah battey but have found that with that much speed/power, you end up sacrificing control and handling.
I like to go as fast as the next guy, but I would rather have control of my car. So I go with a little less power (5000mah) and less weight.
I keep up with my friend's 8000 battery car all day with my 5000 battery.

i may sound like stoopid but wats a123 i no wa nimh lipos and all those other ones but wats a123 is it cheapre then lipo batter then lipo
kevin1032v 3 years ago
a123 is a different technology to lipo that can give out as much power is tougher can charge quicker but cant hold as much capacity
crushgear64 3 years ago
oh ok thats cool how much is the "a123"
kevin1032v 3 years ago
alot
timmytime1793 3 years ago
yah i kind of thought it wud be
kevin1032v 3 years ago
like 150 ish for 20c 7.2 to 10.8 volt adjustable battery
timmytime1793 3 years ago
wow thats a lot and also wat do u mean u can change the volt like how much volts its spitting out
kevin1032v 3 years ago
you can adjust the voltage that the atery puts out from 7.2 volt to 10.8 volts
there is a little button and an led on the batery and you adjust it with the button
the higher the voltage the lower the capacity (mah)
9.9 volts is the sweet spot at 4200 mah
timmytime1793 3 years ago
k thank you
kevin1032v 3 years ago
LiFeP04... not FePo. You should at least know what your batteries are before using them.

whats the differense between a123 and lipo
sitton440 3 years ago
holy there tough
reggiemandude 3 years ago
I hook it up wit ah big O'l fatty wako!
OhSixer 3 years ago
its not a FePo you moron theres no such thing as phosphate polymer batteries its a LiFe lithium phosphate
fuckyou631993 3 years ago
are those any good?
ComradeKalashnikov47 3 years ago
there kind of stupid a 8 or 9 cell is probably better and a lipo is much better but you have to do all this shit to keep them from exploding
fuckyou631993 3 years ago
9 cells burn out any motor after 10 runs. too much power!
associatedwithlosi 3 years ago
not if its a brushless
fuckyou631993 3 years ago
Are you sure?
associatedwithlosi 3 years ago
yeah you can use up to a 3cell lipo 11.1 v thats what i run and you could use a 9 easy its less powerful most are like 9.9v or something not sure lipos are better because there more powerful and much lighter
fuckyou631993 3 years ago
actually it's Lithium Iron Phosphate with Nano technology. I run a 3s 10v pack in my brushless rustler and a 2s 6.6v pack in my brushed rustler. Awesome batteries, I love them!
simpleseajay 3 years ago
its not iron it ion
timmytime1793 3 years ago
Only bad thing is they don't run as long as an equivalent Lithium Polymer, but they're much safer to use.
simpleseajay 3 years ago
You have to realize that R/C cars don't use nano-tech, the batts aren' that advanced nor that expensive. They are just toys, no matter hoe much fun it brings.

nice how fast were u going???? :-P

i give 5 stars for the quality
sumitkid123 3 years ago
Hi just wondering how you fitted those oddly shaped a123's in there, they simply don't fit in the normal 7.2 stick pack spacing I find.
Although the rustler has an extended pack holder right?
jon2cool 3 years ago
I was wondering is mah the same as HV because I've seen a battery I like but it says HV instead. I was wondering are they the same.
countryhank93 3 years ago
HV stands for high voltage, that's used when talking about things cappable of 14volt or more, generally.
mAh, is miliamp hours i believe. So 1000mAh can supply 1000 miliamps (1 amp) for an hour before it runs out.
So no they are completely different things
jon2cool 3 years ago
well when I looked at maxamps website most of there lipo batterys said HV instead of mah. So will do just as well?
countryhank93 3 years ago
yeah i know maxamps are strange, but look at any other Battery website and they will not use those terms as badly as max amps do.
jon2cool 3 years ago
alright
countryhank93 3 years ago
oops not is, it
associatedwithlosi 3 years ago
I suggest putting losi XXX-T-CR 2.5 shocks in the back, Revo shocks in the front, and putting in a ball differential to make is like a XXX-T but faster and quieter.

at 1:18 now thats classic traxxas durability
wolfenheinzer 4 years ago 2
its 1/10 :)
Cashmerebear 4 years ago
At 1:18, it's slower so you see more of what was going on. At 1:10, it happened quite fast.
FireWolf917 4 years ago
I have to agree with him on this one.
WarCowboy 4 years ago
I will agree that the T/E-Maxx are prone to breakage but the Rustler can take a beating like no other...I had the XL-5 and drove it like a crazy man...it never broke. I just ordered a VXL and look forward to it's arrival...I have an e-maxx full alloy brushless and yes it constantly gives me problems
RustyRustler 3 years ago 2
Yeah your right, I havent heard anything bad about the rustlers. I shouldnt have said "traxxas" as opposed to the T-maxx trucks them selves.
I have always been a losi fan when it comes to the stadium trucks though. I had a xxx-nt that had practically every upgrade possible on it.
I wish I wouldnt have sold it.
WarCowboy 3 years ago
you'll like the VXL: it's fast, light, and very fun. Also, I would warn you to tighten up all nuts, bolts, and other such items. I had to spend 2 hours combing a parking lot with a magnet to find the rear tire nut when it worked loose.
FireWolf917 3 years ago
Ha ha ah, yeah I losed 2 wheels in the first 2 runs...crazy hey!!! I don't know why they are so loose...lucky I have spares ;)

just got a rustler vxl today im going to race it see how fun it is i love these cars

If they suck so much *and they don't* Then why did you "waste" your money on 8 of em?
Ah, bragging over the internet is no good, unless you can back it up with a video, like such =D

What are the runtimes w/ an A123? Can't decide btwn A123 & LiPo, A123 seems safer but do you get long runtimes out of it? Seems like you get power out of it!! Nice vid
zeroco2 4 years ago
The runtime with this 3s A123 2300mAh Pack is 10-15 min.Sure, with a 4000mAh Lipo Pack the runtime will be longer and maybe more Power.
But with optimal gearing the A123 Pack has enough Power for me. Lipo i would only take for an onroad car but not for bashing and offroad.
One wrong jump or crash the lipos will burn youre car down. You can build a hardcase for them, then id would be safer, but i want to ride like i want and not what the lipos want:)
born2bash 4 years ago
Do you have the A123 cells from a123racing dotcom? I was wondering the shape of the pack and how it fits in your rusty. Did you have to mod the batt tray or just strap them in there? Also what is your "optimal gearing" or what are you using in the vid?
zeroco2 4 years ago
how much faster will ur rustler go with a123 rather then with an nimh battery?
