Nah. It's more Showa-like than Power Rangers. The only thing that you can compare this to Power Rangers is the costumes, props and the usage of stock footage. Ryuki's storyline is bad either since it's a cop-out and nothing more than Highlander w/ Kamen Riders for maximum merchandising. At least Dragon Knight's plot is honest enough.

the diff between both is 1.ryuki has balance of drama,action,comedy,dark,roman­ce,

while dk has drama,action,romance but lack of comedy and doesn't really have dark(means death etc.)2.ryuki has lack of martial arts but good actors and has more feelings to their parts while dk had martial arts,bike stunts,advanced special effects but lack in acting..it's like they act with no life,notice the death between kamen rider gai and kamen rider thrust...but the big difference is ryuki 2002, dk 2009..

Even every Kamen Rider show has a storyline, it's still a kids show no matter how you put it. So Japanese kids loved show like HIbiki, Kabuto and Double. I'm a diehard Kuuga fan and it was indeed the best Heisei Rider (Tendou's arrogance has nothing against Godai's pure heart).

GARO should be added because that's a very true definition of serious entertainment. Actually, that is dramatic but they put horror elements to make it mature. I give props for Keita Amemiya for his work like GARO.

The original Kamen Riders were all "technology" based. They were normal humans converted into cyborgs. Can't get much more tech based than that. In fact, the majority of the Heisei Riders even have modern technology based powers, even if they involve an "ancient" power source like Undead Cards or such.

I hate to say it but...some of the way they set up in scenes in Dragon Knight...I actually prefer Ryuki so far. But that's not to say Dragon Knight is bad. It's good for an adaptation and it's much closer to the story than PR is but in a good way.

Well do note that DK isn't copying Ryuki. Sure they'll borrow some scenes but their stories are different so scene usage is irrelevant when drawing the plot together. Its cool though how the directors do recycle a scene in a different way.

And about being contrived, you should take their advice: strip it off the emo characters and the senseless KR vs KR fanservice and you will find out that the plot itself is fragile and weak. If Ryuki was like My-HiME, the better.

Protip: Ryuki is less action-focused and more drama-focused. In other words, Ryuki is just contrived KR drama so there are emo characters, including the main character (Shinji) and everyone's favorite rebel Rider Ouja.

Ryuki is 'unique', but Japanese kids were turned off from it. That's why they watch Hibiki, Kabuto, and even Double instead. Ryuki's target audience, aside from kids, are fangirls and housewives.
