  • io kiero trabajar en Canonical

  • I spy with my little eye, a ThinkPad running Ubuntu!

  • I'm confused too. Ubuntu TV will be a HTPC program, where you can store your movies, and other stuff, or it will be just a program that you can rent, see the TV guide, and watch You Tube videos?

  • I'm confused, CES is in the US but they're showing BBC (UK) channels

  • That's the best feature of the show.... cleavage....oppps.... cleavage... ubuntu TV

  • Magnific!

  • Ey will it be free asweeell

  • It's a boxed

  • If it has BBC channels then it's illegal to use in the UK (without a TV licence). And I'm sure the BBC will soon build a database of IP address so that they can auto-fine everyone without a TV licence using their new online TV services. I will not use this unless there's a way to delete the BBC channels to escape the enforced fines of the future.

  • @J2897Tutorials nice idea but wont work, a tv licence covers every digital device that can receive a input so mobile phones, radio,pc monitor, nintedno ds, mp3 players you name it ...there has even been cases where folk only own a old green screen monitor and the bbc tried to sue em...tv licence even includes broadband and 3g signals so yea techniclly ur paying for it twice

  • @cyberboy109 You only need a TV Licence to watch BBC channels. If you never watch BBC channels live from your device, then you do not require a TV Licence. Search YouTube for "TV Licence". You'll be amazed what rights you still have left. Here's a funny one to start with...

    watch?v=OlzIrJNyTec

  • @J2897Tutorials It wont let me post up the link but basicly there's been cases where they have teamed up with local internet providers to prove that they have been watching a bbc program and got fined...its gonna get harder and harder to avoid it

  • Boxee remote!

  • There is no plans for it to be a settop or built into a tv. but then again if its open source that option is is open if developers decide to do so, much like Boxee which is based on XBMC code was put into a Boxee Box. You should check out the Rasberry Pi which is a mini computer for $25 and runs XBMC nicely..

  • It's got alot of work until its seriously ready to compete against the bigger competitors and I'm not just talking about M$ Media Center Im referring to XBMC and MYTHTV which don't require me to have to have a whole desktop installed to run..

  • The remote control is just like Boxee's - and its a pain in the ass to type on those rubber keys!

  • @eazyigz i agree with you man, the remote is a boxee remote with a ubuntu sticker over the boxee logo

  • ubuntu tv. . . NICE!

  • Cutest little remote I've seen! (since the Boxee Box)

  • @nixiedoeslinux When will Ubuntu TV be released?

  • I'd rather just watch Netflix right on my puter! I don't own a tv and haven't for 7+ years! Commercials are what got me to throw the tv out! Even Hulu is banned in my home!

No brain-washing allowed in our home... but then again, if you want to get technical... even movies are brain-washing. They set a way of life in the movies and we little Earth-dwellers take it in and end up living our lives the way it is in movies. Crazy!

  • i like mac, thats why i use it :)

  • @iPwn2010 Apple is no better than Microsoft. They're both spy happy companies as is google. Apple can video record you right from your computer and record voice without you even knowing. Same for windows machines that also incorporate cameras and mics into their hardware. Linux is it for me!

  • I use debian ;) but I love your vids Nixie

  • Its pretty slick Its nice to see linux coming along even it it is behind windows, After all windows has had media center since 2005 .

But ubuntu has still come a long way since 2005.

  • @skilo1983 well, Linux has had XBMC since 2003, MythTV since 2002 and so on and so forth. Ubuntu does not equal Linux ;)

  • "Here is the cutest remote I have ever seen"

Uhm.. that's the boxee remote rebranded.

  • WOW........Power of Opensource....!

  • boxee rip off

  • woow that's amazing!!!! i really want ubuntu on my tv now!!!! it really impressed me

  • Comment removed

  • Not bad. But I'd rather have ubuntu on a seperate PC so I can do more. Would love to have the remote though.

  • ubuntu rule

  • SAMSUNG

  • good video nixie

  • Nice!

  • Must...not...stare...at...cleavage...must...not...stare...

    ...must...resist to see Ubuntu TV!!!

...but then I took an arrow to the knee...and failed.

  • @Cannibal666Corpse LOL... :D

  • @Cannibal666Corpse add "jizzed in my pants" - and you summed up all Youtube memes of the past year into one comment

  • The ford icon nearly made me close the tab :D

  • i hate default ubuntu theme

  • available in mexico?

  • this is the attitude i want to see in all nixie videos

  • Happy with XBMC Live and my Boxee remote, thanks!

  • @RobLoach Can you watch live tv with XBMC without using its dedicated PVR branch? XBMC is not ready yet for live tv (DVB, ATSC, analog).

  • @cumulus0007 Hopefully with Boxee and Ubuntu TV pushing these fronts, the support for it will improve in XBMC :-) .

  • Any chance it will support Netflix?

  • LOVE THE ORANGE OS!

  • @newecreator It's purple.

  • @Zeadar Canonical's purple. Ubuntu's orange.

  • Im totally getting one of those

  • That remote would not survive very long at my house... :P

  • sexy little smoker

  • nixie cute!

  • Is this the BEST IDEA EVER OR WHAT. Finally canonical has got it down trying to budge their way into different markets(even though I still have to use WinBlows for visual studio). When it is finally released and stable I will totally try this out.

  • Valve gonna support Linux with Source Engine I'm sure it is

  • @amanccx Phoronix said that years ago. And yet; nothing.

  • Did your luggage ever show up?

  • Posted via her Linux video's, with a MS cosponsered ad, LOL.

  • And say no to CLOUD!

  • Say no to SOPA!

  • NixieDoesLinux wat

  • a) Games run under PlayOnLinux, not all perfect but then games should already be being compiled for Linux and Mac, they all use the same hardware now.

    b) It's not a re-branded box already on the market. Canonical want their software inside the TV like Freeview if you're familiar with that.

    c) Unity is fine for desktops. At its heard it's a dock (OS X), with a Start Menu built in (Windows). It has all the interface features you could have and the old stuff (Cube etc.) still work with GUI tweaking

  • Wow !!!!

  • UFFFF ... Nixie has grown up .

  • I want that TV)

  • this is the boxee box just rebranded

  • That's the kind of thing Unity should run on. NOT desktop machines.

  • @GreenFont big +1

    I don't think much of Gnome3 either.

maybe I'm just used to Ubuntu 10.04LTS, but Gnome2 is much better in terms of functionality and customization, and much worse in terms of resource-guzzling, annoying eye candy - which is definitely a good thing.

  • "It's that the games aren't compatible with Linux." We're seeing improvements with aftermarket gadgets providing Linux drivers, but it's still a problem. Right now I'm down to one hardware (my audio D/A converter) and one software (the majestic Reaper audio workstation) keeping me in Windows. How hard is it, really, for a company to provide Linux drivers? Or a Linux version of something that works in Windows and OSX?

  • Hi Pixie Nixel! :-). Love the reports, thanks!

  • is this up for download?

  • @GhostGuy764 yes, search for how-to-install-ubuntu-tv-from-ppa and Google should direct you in the right direction.

  • Love this chick.

  • awesome!

  • Nice setup on the TV. Is there a ETA?

  • Cool , nice reporting !

  • @theRudy132 your response awesome response to Interkirilos makes you b0ss of the week.

  • Sorry Nixie, got caught in the comments. My questions.

What TV's are planned to run Ubuntu TV?.

Will we be able to "Patch" some TV's?

Will Ubuntu TV be accessible in the Australian market?

Will recorded content be accessible through Ubuntu one?

Will TV's with embedded Ubuntu TV, be updated and patched? and will the Ubuntu releases and patches effect the TV shelf life? and

What is the expected shelf life of a TV running Ubuntu TV?

    Thanks Nixie.

  • I want one. I didn't think I'd say this, but I like how it looks like the current desktop environment.

  • The TV is almost as gorgeous as Nixel Pixel. Well done Ubuntu and yay for Open Source.

  • Does it integrate with XBMC or does that have to be installed seperatly.

  • Now everyone wants tablets. It would be awesome to have an Ubuntu tablet!

  • Don't like the purple/orange colors at all.

  • sick

  • I hope that is not based on unity :/

  • Thats not a Ubuntu TV, it's a Samsung :P

  • I'm a both a Mac and PC user, BUT I've been using Ubuntu for the past 3 days and I absolutely love it! Still learning the environment, but I really like it! :D

  • @MrJPVERCETTI Beauty thing about it is... er one of the beauty things about it is you can make your Ubuntu Environment look like either MacOS, Windows or both! ALL for free! :D

  • @MrJPVERCETTI its funny, cause when you really get into linux, you realize you were missing out on even more, and start to detest ubuntu even

  • If only it was compatible with all pc games i would never look back at windows.

  • wow, i didn't no you got BBC in America!

  • @syncmaster710n14 Yeah, it's a channel called "BBC America" ;-)

  • Ubuntu!! Yeah!!

  • Isn't that the two-sided Boxee remote?

  • -_-' who slapped a ubuntu sticker on my boxee box remote.

  • I want that awesome remote for my settopbox/tv! Looks really good and handy!

  • What did Ford have to sponsor you for?

  • Interesting product AND Nixie isn't drunk, wow :D

  • Is that Mark sitting at the boot and dif you get a chance to talk to him/take an interview?

  • very cool. the lighting is a little freaky in there eh?

  • Question: With the Boxee box already been released and in the market (Note: it is quite clearly based around the same code due to the use of the remote control), do you feel that you have more of a chance against the likes of Microsoft and their media centre due to your market position?

  • "Cuttest remote ever" That remote has been out for over a year with Boxee Box. Speaking of Boxee Box, they will soon release a usb adapter for cable tv and over the air hd stations. I don't understand why Ubuntu came into the game years after Windows Media Center, XMB, Boxee, Roku, Google TV...they have so much to catch up with.

  • So Ubuntu TV is re-branded Boxee Box. Ubuntu TV or keep my D-Link Boxee Box... hmmm Boxee wins!

  • Boxee remote anyone?

  • You are retarded, that is a Boxee remote lol!

  • That remote looks a lot like a Boxee Box remote.

  • I saw the remote and realized ... it is Boxee with the Ubuntu name.

  • Tv sucks, same crappy programs all over...

  • nixie you rock :D love you :) ^^ :$

  • If only GNU/Linux was compatible with all the Major Video Games...

    IF ONLY!

  • @Interkirilos And if only Netflix dropped Silverlight and at least switched to Flash.

  • @Interkirilos It's not that GNU/Linux isn't compatible with all the Major Video Games, it's that the games aren't compatible with linux.

  • @theRudy132 not entirely, Linux is compatible with open source graphics and sound, that's a linux thing not the software developers producing for the minority of users.

Would agree though that realistically that's all that holds Linux back from going all the way. And that's coming from a 98% full time Windows user since the first Windows

For everything other then most gaming and some high end stuff, Linux is more the capable and has alternatives.

  • @Spamazoid sorry i mean Software and Hardware developers.

  • @theRudy132 dang, just read this one. Thumbs up.

  • @theRudy132 Actually you are totally right...I guess I didn't write that down correctly.

I'm a Linux user myself for years now,Rolling with Arch-Linux as my main OS for like two 2 years, now that I had a PC upgrade though I just need to play all these games so Windows is like my main OS again.

Of course is not GNU/Linux's fault that all these big-ass Companies don't support it.

  • @Interkirilos Well done, your humility is refreshing. Being a user of Linux, I gather you are well aware of Wine and do not need any more pointers there, so can I offer some other advice. I doubt it helps, but I used to email the publisher and let them know that I have bought their game, but that my gaming experience would be enhanced if it could run on Linux, either native or by Wine.

I used past tense, because now, It's either with Wine, or PS3. if neither, then no purchase.

  • @theRudy132 and in Soviet Russia, games play you :)

Linux distributions have up until very recently been considered platforms for professionals (just like OSX is a platform for bad professionals), so it's no wonder games for Linux/Mac didn't get past the "Solitaire" stage for a very long time.

besides, Windows is still a market-leading OS in terms of percentage of home users (who are potential gamers).

quantity over quality. that's how the money world works.

  • @Interkirilos yes if only, sadly it never will be until they move from open source

  • @Interkirilos you could use Wine I play WoW with it and get 150 fps over my windows 80-90 fps

  • @Interkirilos Dude, If only the major video game producers would publish for Linux. It is not Linux's fault, it is the publishers.

  • @Interkirilos Games actually run smoother on Linux. Now if only everyone would just take after ID Software and make the games cross platform.

  • @Interkirilos Dude? With a little work I have got my gaming on with Ubunut/Wine.. Including feeding my CoD hunger...

  • @mmoseley1981 and I can't spell Ubuntu**

  • @Interkirilos if only Xbox was compatible with all the PS or Wii Games

Been wondering why my old PSOne game wont run in my new Xbox 360

    /sarcasm off

Btw... people keep complaining that Linux doesn't have Direct X, but if a game is available at PS3 it could be much easily ported to mac or Linux

  • With all the things Ubuntu is doing Microsoft should be worried. i have tried windows 8 and its just plain retarded. the second the Bugs with Compiz and unity are fixed i am switching. Microsoft just doesn't get it anymore.

  • @MrGizmo757 1 in a Million, or should I say Billion? Microsoft, whether we like it or not, still dominates the pc business. I cannot see Ubuntu triumphing over M$ any time soon. With windows mobile, windows 8 being table friendly, xbox live...you cannot take down the giant.

  • @salfratuka You must be on drugs. Windows Market share in the Consumer space has already lost. 90% of it is Enterprise. the other 10% s consumer space. and that 10% is fading fast. Microsoft may rule the enterprise space for along time but as far as the Consumer Market is concerned its just about dead. You have the largest PC companies backing out of the PC market because of how low sales are. and when android for the desktop ships next year along with ubuntu LTS. its over.

  • @MrGizmo757 Android for the desktop? You mean, Google's failed attempt Chrome OS? Yeah, the OS that depends on internet connectivity. Once it is released, it would be a different story

  • @salfratuka No i mean android for the desktop. Chrome OS is a joke. Android went from phones to tablets. they now have an ecosystem going and the desktop is next. they have an alpha out right now. its GNU/Linux based of course and its basically a Distro sporting the Android market place. do you keep up with Tech at all? the new version of QNX gets released on the 17th as well which will also run Android apps in a run time. i been running the beta for 3 days now. Keep up Man.

  • Yea, that remote is the one boxee uses.

  • I hope that we can install it ourselves in an HTPC. Dont go the way Boxee did. Its just a fuck you to all the dedicated hackers and users.

  • @sayrith what the hell are you talking about? You can install Boxee.

  • @adamx20 read up on their blog. They just released the last version of HTPC boxee, but the boxee box will still be supported.

  • @sayrith Oh. I did not know that. That kinda explains the move by Canonical then.

  • seems like you got your luggage then, looks hot.... and you look nice too nixie

  • It uses the BoxeeBox remote?

  • Can you show us a list of all the Ubuntu products that will feature at CES?

  • Nixie has come a long way but the made it and kicking it hard style. Well Lady powered by Linux.

  • I really hope that you can install vlc or ffmpeg with totem on it so that I can play every media file that is on me usb stick or external hard drive. This would be a amazing feature if that would be possible.

  • I would totaly want that TV ^-^ hope it comes out in Europe. lol I still have a fattass tv XD

  • Great preview video and as always great smile :)

  • love it

  • before 304 views! :)

  • Hey, how well does UbuntuOne work??

  • UbuntuTV..this seems interesting...

  • wow I want one!!

  • 1st

  • First comment. I love you

  • I am gonna have to give that a try!

  • She is so damn hot!
