@amiyaiitkgp If you want to show the view outside of a window, HDR is one way to do that, and still keep good dynamic balance without having to either Dodge and Burn or do subtractive editing, still though HDR is more suited to Landscapes, Close up photos and any photo that shows a lot of texture

Get 3 exposures, combine them in Photoshop = HDR. The thing is all those colorful HDR pictures are like that because people color correct each of the images in Photoshop. Filters like Color Efex Pro are great to speed this up.

I also like taking "HDR"-Photos, but taking a tripod is very complicating...so often I just take one single RAW shot, using Lightroom to lighten the dark sections and dim the bright parts...You'll get wonderful pictures - with just one shot taken!

@TheNinjinx HDR, high dynamic range. detail in color and lighting. first HDR was black and white yes, taken at different exposures and pasted on top each other in negatives so that any spots that lacked/created mergers would be mostly gone allowing a "high dynamic range"

you are wong Kai. HDR isnt about crasy color. Its about tuninig pictures with areas very bright and dark. In the process u will dark the bright parts and light (and gain detail) on the dark areas.

the color crasy pictures u see on the web are just photoshoped and most of themu can do it with a regular picture.

you are not getting it what HDR is all about..its more about higher control over the exposure..just play with a HDR file in Photoshop and you will see that you can change the exposure anyway that you want and still have a great picture..you think HDR is about Tonemapping ?..Tonemapping is another deal..that can be done with a non HDR picture but gets better with a true HDR file

@StevenIsVip I prefer photomatix for the HDR processing. It is very powerful but does not require a massive learning curve to get started.

Just take a tripod, set bracketing at +1 and -1, or +2 and -2 if you want to go wild.

Manually import the images and select a preset.

Now start fiddling with the nobs!

I've been using HDR for my final year minor project & I have to agree the'vomit' of colours is what you get when you search for HDR images on the internet. However architectural photographers have been using HDR to enhance their images for years. I have found Mono HDR as a technique really bring out texture in an image that is not so visible in a conventional image.

Buy Photomatix Pro. its very easy to use with the added bonus that you can import your HDR image straight into Photoshop.
