  • you should review e.t. just to rant on it. lol

  • @665yoman Check out my E.T. LP.

  • you rock your awsome

  • There's also a version of Defender II(aka: Stargate) for the NES, from HAL America. I picked it up a while ago and it's great. Definitely one of the best arcade ports for the NES. I hope that your review it someday, Mark. That'd be awesome =D

  • Actually this plays better than the original 2600 version of Defender.

  • In the StarGateSG-1 tv show, the SG1 team had about three or four human bulit space ships created to fight aliens invaders from space... So You can play the game, then go pop in a DVD epsiode of StarGateSG-1 where they are fighting aliens in Earth space ships.

  • Definitely one of the best 2600 titles out there. I think the programmers did a fabulous job on this title considering the limitations of the system.

  • @tremoloman Yeah, I haven't seen anything this slick on the 2600 before. I am well impressed!

  • @nicholasthetaylor I remember having this for the 2600 when all of the titles went on clearance in the mid 80s. My brother, who is ten years older than me, was a HUGE Defender champ when it came to the arcade version, and he HATED what they did to the original title. He was quite impressed with this one. This and BATTLEZONE were two of the better titles toward the end.

  • is there any games that you don't like?

  • @thousandlegger ...ET? XD He said ET sucks in this very episode of Classic Game Room HD (Hamster Dance!)

  • @nicholasthetaylor if i ever meet you i'm going to take a block of wood to your shinbone.

  • @thousandlegger That just makes me want to meet you even less. Why would anyone want to meet a retard like you? Especially one with a vengeance. Dangerous combo!

  • @nicholasthetaylor you're probably an atheist democrat anyway. i would love to take a clamp to your jaw.

  • @thousandlegger Stop sending me creepy messages

  • @nicholasthetaylor how come? i think it's fun. something to kill the time while we wait to die, ain't it?

  • @thousandlegger I don't know for certain, but my guess is that you have lost someone close to you; a mentor or a teacher, because you would be throwing your life away and taking someone elses with it. Your life isn't over yet, but it will be if you carry on like this. There's always hope if you can find the motivation to carry on. Its easier said than done I know, but usually people reach a point where good things start happening, and these tend to snowball. The trick then is to keep it moving!

  • @nicholasthetaylor actually you hit the nail on the head. i am responsible for the loss of my beloved pet cat "Frankenstein". I have tried many coping methods but have found that threatening people on youtube is the only one that provides any relief from the profound despair.

  • @thousandlegger Really sorry to hear about your cat, but there are more effective options available to you. Councilling is a very positive option, and is often available at no charge to employees. They help you repair and to feel better about yourself, and also help you become the type of person that you want to be

  • @nicholasthetaylor if you don't council me i'm going to be forced to horse whip you.

  • Awesome! just picked this baby up with a bunch of other Atari games :-D

  • I love the way that the player's laser sounds in Stargate. It's this roaring engine of death, eradicating any alien scum that gets in its way. Now THAT'S how a laser should sound in a shoot'em up. Also, I remember playing this with just one controller on the 7800, though I think you can't use smart bombs if you play it that way.

  • lol i loved defender and now i wanna get this game badly XD

  • I got the version of Stargate called Defender II same game just a title change.

Man this game blew away the original Defender on the 2600.

This was very arcade true for its time.

  • You 14yr old, rollerblading jonas brothers can thumbs down me all you want..

It will not change the truth.

  • on atari history, check out biffs network

    he knows his shit!

  • It's true ! Biff was the 1st videogame reviewer onda interweb!

    Itsawgood though ;-)

  • You should get off the computer unless you're calling the Internet the "Interweb" or purpose.

  • Uhh.. ok?

Well , while we are on the subject.. why are you capitalizing "internet"? That doesn't make sense.

And if you are sticking to your guns on that decision, shouldn't it be "The Internet" instead of "the Internet"?

I can tell that the word internet is really, really, really important to you , so I want to help you get it right.

  • Well considering "Internet" is the full title, "the" doesn't need to be capitalized. Though considering "Interweb" by definition is used by technologically unskilled/stupid people, it matters a lot.

  • @DeltaPhi79 If "Internet" is the full title, then why did you interject "the" to begin with? And that still doesn't explain why you capitalized it

    ;-}

  • @glamourknight @DeltaPhi79 *Clonks your heads together*

  • @nicholasthetaylor Bitch , please.

You couldn't clonk your own two testicles toghether

  • @glamourknight Its a skill I can live without XD

  • It's probably because that's the way it's officially spelled in the dictionary and because it's a thing and there's only one???? Can you use common sense or do you not have it?

  • @DeltaPhi79 What does spelling have to do with it? Why did you even bring that up? You are cognizant of the difference between that and capitalization?

I'm glad you realized your mistake. If you are going to refer to something as a proper noun , then you must capitalize "the". Glad I could help!

  • Ah but don't forget that it can be used as a common noun also. I'm still not wrong :).

  • Not that it matters or I can prove it, I had the first video game reviews on the internet in 1995. Some of these are being posted on my youtube channel. (Biffsgamingvideos). these go back to college in 1986-1990 but iternet in 1995. Check them out.

  • It's amazing what a little competition will do. Activision proved you could do a LOT with the 2600, and they really shamed Atari. As a result, Atari had to get their act together - the first step was recognizing that their programmers were 'worth more than the people who boxed the games'. That's what Ray Kassar, the pres of Atari told the team who then left for form Activision.

Unfortunately for Atari, these great efforts were too little, too late.

  • WHY NO SMART BOMBS?!

  • My amazement at the quality of the late-era (1983-84) 2600 arcade ports continues. I had lost interest in the 2600 by this time and never saw games like Millipede, Moon Patrol, or Stargate. This is WAY better than 2600 Defender.

  • when i saw the title of the video, i first thought it was a bad misspelling of strategy. XD

  • ...would've been the worst (or best :D) typo ever made :D

  • Your Spy Hunter 2600 link on your site apparently is faulty, because it brought me here instead of where I thought I was going to end up.

  • You left out so much. Like what an improvement over defender this is and how much more like the original it is. You also left out the fact that the cartridge contains extra ram for the 2600 for the better graphics and more enemies to keep track of. It actually doubles the ram from 128 bytes to 256 bytes. Yes, BYTES. It's called the Superchip. This is a very highly ranked Atari game and pretty common, so you can pick it up dirt cheap and it's lots of fun.

  • Although Defender 2 - Stargate is more accurate to the arcade, I found I still preferred the original Atari Defender. It was easier to control (one joystick).

  • you never used the stargate!P

and i can't believe there was a cloaking device and i never knew...(

  • wasnt there a defender 2/Stargate for the NES or Atari 7800 too?

Because i recall playing the same game, just with better grafics.

  • There were a LOT of defender games and clones out for almost every game consoles and personal computers. I had one for my VIC 20 as a kid. Good Fun.

  • search "classic jarv"

  • When you say European 7800 controller, what did the US version look like?

I remember them appearing on the 2600 Jr over here as well.

  • I'll show you all soon with the console review of the Atari 7800. -mark

  • The US version is a joystick with a button on both sides of the base (but it's a skinny base nothing like the 2600 joystick). The European version is a joypad with a d pad that looks something like the nes joypad.

  • You're about 8 months too late dude :D

But thanks for the reply nonetheless!

  • I played Defender II (mine wasn't called Stargate) before I played the original Defender. It was kinda hard for me to play regular Defender after you're use to playing the sequel.

You should do a review on Polaris sometime, that was probably my favorite space-shooting game for 2600

  • i'm thinking of getting an atari for christmas, does this game have online multiplayer?

  • it's massively multiplayer, didn't you see all those other players flying around?

  • awesome

  • nice review
