@theaesthetics That is what I always wondered because you can not easily lift up for bumps. What about up hill? I mean gravity is not working for you.; can you keep up with a group of road bikes?
@spencehj Some of the fast recumbents climb just as well as road bikes (Carbent, Bachetta CA 2.0, Rans X-Stream) as they're just as light, while the heavier touring models will be slower up hills, but overall more comfortable for long cruises. Most commercially available 'bents are made equally as well. A good place to check out a selection is by googling The Hostel Shoppe online.
cool vid, i got the v1 rans rocket without the front shock absorber, i need a new rear wheel though (busted the spokes off when i pushed to hard) i added a smaller sprocket the the front gear set but i need a derailer that can travel through all 4 cogs.
Yep, those 'zaks really are more than the sum of their parts. Bill is still around and while he's no longer officially selling his marvelous bikes, I'm sure if someone really, really wanted one, they might be able to coax him out of retirement :)
Hi, great bikes and a great video. I have a Ross SWB, which is a cross between your 2 bikes, in that it has 26''rear/20''front but above seat steering. Very light and nimble but akas, it is in the Forest of Dean, UK and I am now in Va., lol. Hope that one day I'll get it back so I can ride your fantastic trails!.
The Forest of Dean sounds like a great place to ride a bike :) I checked out the Ross recumbents on the net and they look very nice! I haven't seen any for sale out here. They need to start shipping some of those to the U.S. :)
As far as I know they are no longer making bikes. My one had been used to win the European Championships somewhere in the UK a number of years back. The guy I bought it from was a lot shorter than me and I had to put all new cables ect on it so I could pull it out to its longest length. Took a lot of getting used to as I had only riden uprights, mainly for Time trialling since about 1971!
That's the Rans Rocket. Yep, it's got the same 20" wheels as BMX. It takes some time to get used to the handling (about a week) if you've never ridden a recumbent, but when you do, it's a very nice handling bike. It feels very much like riding in a reclining chair. Super comfortable. The Rans pack has lots of space for carrying extras, but it you wanted to tour, you can buy a rack and panniers.
It's not rough without suspension?
LibertaerUeberAlles 2 years ago
Not at all :) I'm not sure why, but the Rocket gives a very smooth ride as does the Horizon.

It must be the seat. I've tried going suspensionless on my laid-back shell seat 'bent, and it wasn't comfortable at all. In fact, it was unbearable.
I need to try one of those!

I love those Rockets! I've been busting spokes on my road bike lately. I hope it's not catching ;)

The bike with the yellow pouch is having both BMX tire. Could it carry a lot of things? How does the handling?
