  • what is the purpose of an infared blocker... Whats wrong with IR that it needs to be blocked?

  • @EricGarcia4life The camera modifications shone in this video are done so that the camera only sees the infrared light illuminating a object you want to track. When used in an optical-based multitouch setup, an object such as your finger on the touch screen surface is then tracked as a small white IR blob. This blob is converted by the computer into an x,y cursor point and thus creates a touch screen. Please read our website for much more info.

  • nice! thx!

  • can you use paystation move camara

  • @bogyblog1087 Yes, the Playstation Move camera is the same Playstation Eye camera

  • @PeauProductions hi got my ps eye today and i have some probleme whit it so ive instal cl driver and a fix cause free track was crashing and now when i try to open free track canot get any picture so if you could help me on this thank you sorry for my bad english

  • @justisnotgood Please post your questions on the NUI Group forum

  • @PeauProductions ive made it work but just found out that its a new model lol there are no lent like in your its a single piece the only way i can remove the ir filter is to rum gasolin on lent util its goes off but ive alrdy destroy the lent of the cam lol ill do some reserch before buying another or ill try to put an mx3000 lent on it

  • whats the focal lengths of the original PSeye Lens ?

  • @GrouchoPro6 The original PS Eye lens is adjustable from about 4.5-6mm.

  • Heating a filter a bit to take it off is saving a lot of time :)

  • @linesethenoiz Yes that is another way to do it :)

  • In lcd setups, the diffuser will go under the lcd panel, even for LED LP? will that be helpful in producing good blobs. Also i'm a bit confused as to what diffusers are. Do traditional drafting/ tracing paper work?

  • @devilsonlychild In all LCD setups you need to place the diffuser under the LCD so that the backlight evenly lights up the LCD matrix. A diffuser is just a opaque sheet used to spread the light out and reduce hotspots. Yes you can use tracing/drafting paper as a diffuser, or just take one of the white sheets out of the backlight.

  • @devilsonlychild Yes even for LED-LP setups. A diffuser just spreads the backlight and lights up the LCD image evenly. You can use drafting, tracing, computer paper etc.

  • Is it possible to use other web cameras as well. some cheaper ones donot have an ir blocl filter i believe. SO how would i go about modding those. Appreciate the videos.

  • @devilsonlychild All webcams will have IR blocking filters in them, even the cheaper ones. The cheaper webcams will give you very low resolution with ccv, around 7-13fps, even though they say they support 30fps+. The PS Eye is the cheapest and best specification camera, hence why it's the only camera we sell.

  • @devilsonlychild Yes you can use other cameras, but the best spec'd one with the cheapest price is the PS Eye camera. Almost all web cameras have the infrared blocking filter that is being taken out in this video.

  • I can't get this piece of shit pried apart. I think the case is glued together.

  • @EATABAGOFHELL Nope, just keep trying :)

  • Nice job, I learned alot

  • helped me just getting the back off to replace the holder :) Many Thanks

  • why are people modding these? Will this make PS Move perform any better?

  • @CandyHam The PS Eye camera has been used for years to make optical tracking touch systems like the first Microsoft Surface table. But yes, you can adapt different lenses onto it and get a wider FOV for you PS Move setup, allowing you to stand further or closer than the stock (OEM) lens allows. See my store for all the options.

  • @PeauProductions Weldone u are the faster to open a package like that on youtube :D

and u win from me a thumbs up and sub and 1 view

  • woot i have a "good" camera because i got it when it came out cuz i KNEW sony would make it hard for us to have a little fun

  • i hear airborne in the background >__>

  • I read that with the newest cameras the ir filter cannot be removed.

Do you know anything about this and how to differentiate between the new and old models?

  • @sinbindinchin Some of the newest ones have the "bad" unmodifiable lens, but there are still tons of the "good" modifiable ones out there. You can tell the difference by looking at the glass on the end of the outside of the lens (meaning you don't even have to open the packaging to know which type it is). The bad one has a flat, lighter glass, and the good one has a curved, darker glass. I have a blog post showing differences so look for that (can't post url links in comments)

  • @PeauProductions my camera came with missing the IR filter, so my hair looks blue, and the camera picks up my remote shinning on the wall, its kinda cool, but annoying at the same time

  • How can I tell if my PS3 eye has the IR blocking filter?

  • @shdowflare Every single camera has the filter when the lens was made.

  • You should always cut away from yourself, for saftey.

  • thank you so much for sharing this video. we successfully removed the filter and replaced it by following your tutorial, although it took us about TEN times as long, and my god all the glass splinters! you've got skills man!

that was a smart way of opening packaging as well. sadly, i actually attempted to use scissors like the packaging suggested...

  • So, basically, it's sort of like a night vision type of device when you get through with it then, right?

  • Yeah, the modified cameras can be used for all sorts of things such as night vision and infrared videography.

  • Cool! I might could find a use for that one! Thanks for posting the video!

  • Haha awesome man, there are a lot of things you can do to upgrade the camera so feel free to contact me through my store if you need something figured out (store link in info on right)

  • Thanks! I'll be in touch when I get on to that project. if nothing else, it looks like it'd be fun to play with for a while too! LOL!

  • if i can see the remote control i.r thing on a cam does that mean it does not have an i.r filter plz reply?

  • @PeauProductions I know this is sorta late.... But how would you use this camera for IR videography?

  • @seva404 You can simply hook it to your computer and use any software that takes a webcam video and records it.

  • sort of it sees ir waves and makes things a little brighter in low light but night vision have a intensifying tube the multiples the little available light by thousands of times. ive done this trick on an old canon dlsr with a ir filter for awesome ir pics

  • wow & cool & thanks.ive just learnt something new for my ps3 camera, you sure know your stuff.Peace from Great Britain

  • Dude you are a monster at opening packaging.

  • Haha, yeah, you should see when I get a shipment of cameras to restock my store, usually 10 at a time, and I rip through them just as fast.

  • great tutorial!

  • Nope sure didn't. Ha. I'm being lazy and didn't feel like reading. LOL sorry. So what is RI?

  • IR is an abbreviation of infrared, the part of light above red, that we humans usually cannot see. Cameras though can see it, so it is used to light up where you touch your fingers to a multitouch surface like the previously mentioned Microsoft Surface. You can have your room with all the ligths off except for the infrared light and it will light up the room like a normal light would, but only from the camera's point of view and not yours

  • Whats special about taking that out? I'm to lazy to watch the video. lol

  • Did you read the more info on the right? :P

The removal is to allow the camera to see IR light so that you can use it as a high frame rate camera in optical-based multitouch setups like the MIcrosoft Surface
