I find it ironic that no one said anything about the bit with God in Holy Grail, since it seemed to me that they were kind of making fun of how people worshipped god and everything. But I'm glad no one did, cause Monty Python IS the greatest show ever invented, and anyone who thinks it sucks should be hung by their own small intestine from a spam tree with "flying" sheep in it. :)

Growing up we couldn't watch "The Life of Brian" half the time, as our local vicar borrowed our copy and loved it so much he didn't give it back for an age.

But yes I agree. ALL religions ruthlessly coopt naturally evolved cognitive brain rewards and overcautious paranoia against predators into furthering itself; Like a big mac meal exploits for mac-profit our craving for fat/sugar (essential in small dose but ultimately fatal in overdose because it evolved and so is tuned to when these were scarce in the environment).

Thus religion, dangerously blind and ruthless, muddles human nature.

@intermender I wasn't saying that religion itself is bad. What I meant is that the film is a satire in respect to zealotry. Religion has the power to be a great force for good in the world. It is when this force is used as a bludgeon to violently - sometimes fatally - batter down any and all dissent and criticism that that force turns from religion into zealotry.

There is no bad religion (save say... Satanism) but there are those who can use religion to do very bad things.

Well I was - anything which is claimed as authority or law without evidence is just begging to be perverted into atrocity or totalitarianism by any passing opportunist.

Such a thing should never find its way into government or substituted for informed decision, but kept as a private indulgence or hobby only.

Geez its just a work of fiction. I'm a catholic myself and i laguhed my ass off watching the movie. But at the end of the day its JUST a MOVIE! Get a sense of humour! Monty Python (in my opinion) is the best comedy programme ever. I can't understand why if people were to get offended (even though I can't see anything sacrilegist in it) they just couldn't stay at home and not watch it instead of kicking up a big fuss. I totally agree! I think Monty Python makjes fun of anything and everything, so it doesn't mean that they're against something. I mean, Palin is a Yorkshireman, but he still did the Four Yorkshiremen sketch, and Chapman was gay, but half the Python jokes were about poufs!
