I find it ironic that no one said anything about the bit with God in Holy Grail, since it seemed to me that they were kind of making fun of how people worshipped god and everything. But I'm glad no one did, cause Monty Python IS the greatest show ever invented, and anyone who thinks it sucks should be hung by their own small intestine from a spam tree with "flying" sheep in it. :)
Growing up we couldn't watch "The Life of Brian" half the time, as our local vicar borrowed our copy and loved it so much he didn't give it back for an age.

lol, that christian saying don't pick on me because i have to turn the other cheek as if we were forceing him to be a christian and do that! ha ha. What a dimwit.
And that council member who censored the film wholly on the word of an organisation and then having the gall to admit he didn't even know what they stood for. Idiot.
Sorry, I harsly picked on the religion featured in this vid.
But yes I agree. ALL religions ruthlessly coopt naturally evolved cognitive brain rewards and overcautious paranoia against predators into furthering itself; Like a big mac meal exploits for mac-profit our craving for fat/sugar (essential in small dose but ultimately fatal in overdose because it evolved and so is tuned to when these were scarce in the environment).
Thus religion, dangerously blind and ruthless, muddles human nature.
@intermender I wasn't saying that religion itself is bad. What I meant is that the film is a satire in respect to zealotry. Religion has the power to be a great force for good in the world. It is when this force is used as a bludgeon to violently - sometimes fatally - batter down any and all dissent and criticism that that force turns from religion into zealotry.
There is no bad religion (save say... Satanism) but there are those who can use religion to do very bad things.
Well I was - anything which is claimed as authority or law without evidence is just begging to be perverted into atrocity or totalitarianism by any passing opportunist.
Such a thing should never find its way into government or substituted for informed decision, but kept as a private indulgence or hobby only.
This video typifies the cloudy judgement and confusion which ensues from religion as well as its questionable morality.
All religion deifies ignorance (marketed with the word 'faith').
I had that epiphany when I was a kid and caught my dad watching a religious program and I asked him if he really believed in it. Just could not imagine myself with these people for eternity. Worse than school with substitute teachers.
@aquagrl63 I think you're thinking of Julie Walters, who played both Whitehouse and Molly Weasley. While Molly's certainly the domestic tinpot dictator, we're actually supposed to like her.
Catholics are so funny to mess with! they get mad if anyone dares to say "well, maybe it wasn't like you think it was!" RIDICULOUS! they sould be more concerned about misery and people starving everywhere while the pope lives in the richest state in the world....open your eyes, people!
Geez its just a work of fiction. I'm a catholic myself and i laguhed my ass off watching the movie. But at the end of the day its JUST a MOVIE! Get a sense of humour! Just like Dan browns books, its all FICTION! even dan brown said it himself his works are all fiction. I'm not goin to lose faith in my religion just based on works of fiction. I'm a devoted catholic and i'll always stay that way.
EXACTLY! some people just need to loosen up and face the fact that it's just a movie, and that it's not blasphemy or herecy or anything on those lines. My best friend is the daughter of a pastor and she went with me to see Angels and Demons. Books involving Christ and how science is the ultimate god will not change people's religion.
Benny Hill was considered funnier than Monty Python by a UHF station (WLVI TV Channel 56 in Cambridge, Ma) running both! I agree! And combine "exodus' and "international" and ".org"!
It's amazing how polarized people have to be. Why does it have to be religion OR Monty Python (or Science or Education or Whatever)? I happen to be a practicing Christian who thinks Life of Brian was a brilliant film.
ha ha when the very relaxed pythons were sitting at the set eating the only voice I heard was michael palins.Which fits in with what ive heard about his talkative nature
haha when there was the footage of the pythons sitting relaxed eting at the set the only voice I heard was michael palins.Which fits in with what ive heard about his talkative nature!
Monty Python (in my opinion) is the best comedy programme ever. I can't understand why if people were to get offended (even though I can't see anything sacrilegist in it) they just couldn't stay at home and not watch it instead of kicking up a big fuss. And loads of people that complained never even watched it!
I totally agree! I think Monty Python makjes fun of anything and everything, so it doesn't mean that they're against something. I mean, Palin is a Yorkshireman, but he still did the Four Yorkshiremen sketch, and Chapman was gay, but half the Python jokes were about poufs! My point being, they were'nt against anything becuz they made fun of EVERYTHING> and ppl who don't like it don't need to watch.
Isn't it interesting that George pretty much got vengeance for when fundamentalist Christians burned Beatles records over John (Lennon)'s "more popular than Jesus" remark? "Here I am financing a spoof on Christian religion! All those years ago fundamentalist bastards shot at our plane and burned records!! Ha, take that!"
God bothers are all the same. Anyone can pick on a comedy film, or a song (can you believe it's a VICAR who wants the hymn "I Vow To Thee, My Country" banned on the grounds of racism?), yet where are these so-called do-gooders when something really offensive happens, like having a major character in a soap opera get raped simply to boost ratings?
I find it ironic that no one said anything about the bit with God in Holy Grail, since it seemed to me that they were kind of making fun of how people worshipped god and everything.
