LOL on your imagination, dude, but aint anything like the real thing! For start, LGM-30 or its present version, 30G, has 3 not 1 RVs, deploys chaff and flares upon separation and has 3 decoys. It does NOT SPIN, also.
@RomanicusMaximus , you should not speak of what you dont know about.. wikipedia is not always correct.. it does spin and always has and you shoudl really read the last START treaty regarding the number of RV's
@RomanicusMaximus Shut the fuck up. No matter how many warheads there is or how we argue it works, its stilcapable of fucking up MANY peoples lives, case closed. That good enough for you?
Go watch the recommended video "Nuclear missile launch" It's the same thing, but with the music "Surfing bird" plus unless your blind don't reply about advertising. I didn't make it.
God Bless NORTHRUP GRUMMAN, RAYHEON, LOCKHEED and Ronaldus Magnus for building up our military in the 80s or else we'd all be speaking RUSSIAN right now. God Bless USA and our Missile Defense (AKA SDI).
@0624ize Really you're being too modest! Give Saint Ronnie full credit and don't forget how he helped the Islamofacists in Afghanistan (including bin Laden), traded weapons for hostages with the ayatollahs in Iran and helped his buddy Saddam Hussein with military help throughout the 80s.
Oh and he proposed eliminating nuclear weapons stockpiles to Gorbachev while meeting in Iceland.
Oh man I worked on the down stages of theses things at Minot A.F.B. in the early 90's. Seeing it launch and separate in orbit that way was amazing. Thanks to the people over at Malmstrom and the 341st Missle Wing for the awesome video. Good music choice as well. It just adds to the amazing force that the Minuteman produced.
@EyeballMuscles I'm at Warren, and it hasn't been too windy here. It's been a pretty docile winter so far. I know those briefings, except ours involve the antelope on base, too. Well, thank you for your service and what you did there.
@EyeballMuscles HUA, that's my current job right now. We watched this video in FTAC, and it makes me feel great about what power I keep other people from getting. I am going to assume you were at Malmstrom?
is there like any defense against these.if one of these was launched at another country could they stop it? or the same for america if one was launched at america could we stop it from hitting the county?
Lame music and bogus credits attached to what is actually a Northrop produced video (ie: builders of the missile). What ego. Think of the amount of engineering and operational effort that went into the thing for some loser to slap bad metal music and self-aggrandizing credits on the video.
@Arielelda no, this missile is a NUKE but they didn't have an active NUKE on it at the time. If they would have had, we would not be watching this video.
Hate the music, Hate the fact that I have to sit thru 2 minutes of fake credits at the beginning, but the video is AWSOME. Send a few of these to some select A-Hole countries.....
@hans1066 The "real" video would be the screen flashing EAM for Emergency Action Message, and then knob being turned to the launch position. The rest is CGI.
This is pretty cool. I am glad graphics acceleration has advanced to the point that this simulation didn't end up looking like something from FlightSim '95. Anyway, Malmstrom was my first operational assignment as a bullet catcher in the 10th MS as an ART/SRT member. It stoked my heart to see all the bits and parts come alive and actually function. Thanks for posting the vid.
The animation in this video was not created by anyone listed in the credits. The Animation is part of a Northrop MMIII Video with better music, and was created by DRDP.
lol they are still using modified silos from the cold war...I remember being told by a friend that the equipment for launching the MX (peacekeeper) was really old and the silos used to launch the minuteman 3(a much older missile) were newer ...lol that makes alot of sense ..NOT
@NBKNZ1 Ground support equipment and the missile were linked together and were fairly state of the art. The site was the same as a Minuteman III but then again who cares. All it needed to do was secure, protect from the elements and survive a near miss. Peacekeeper was a very accurate weapon. Even more so than Minuteman III.
Soviet heavy R-36M (or NATO's SS-18 "Satan") missile is able to deliver only 1 25 MT warhead! Minuteman III has 15 000 miles radius. US warhead are also able to explode in air. By the way at least 6 warheads are not Independently Targetable in R-36M. Russia just have 59 missile of all modifications of R-36
You can detonate a warhead anywhereunderground, under water, on the ground and in the air. You dont have to redesign the weapon for use in different areas.
If a warhead were to detonate on the ground the destruction would be less than one that was detonated at 1500 to 2500 feet. Blast pressure is typically 15 times greater than normal atmospheric pressure and therefore flattens everything under it.
You're trying to maximize the destructive effect with it.
A simple hot-launch; the main booster is ignited in the silo and the missile accelerates out of the silo. Peacekeeper is cold-launched and accelerates a LOT faster. But yes, these solid fuel missiles accelerate very fast compared to normal space launch vehicles.
The "key turners" are officers, Missile Crew Commander and Deputy Missile Crew Commander. It's a very intense psychological job.
The FMT members are enlisted, anyone with suitable test grades could probably request it as their training. There aren't a lot of missile crews left, since we've cut our missile arsenal so drastically in the past 20 years.
@barnaclewes and let's not forget the EMT's (Electronic MT)! They have to score much higher, pass PRP's and get high security clearances, not to mention impeccable background and not only high test scores, but good grades going back to high school. MY son is one! GO AIR FORCE
@marcieeliz Makes me wonder how some of the guys I work with got PRP. We aren't EMT's, but Security Forces, so we aren't quite as bright, all of us. But that's alright, I enjoy what I do, and I thank your son for doing what he does in the assistance to keep this country safe. And thank you for allowing him and supporting what he does.
Soviet heavy R-36M (or NATO's SS-18 "Satan") missile has capability to deliver 25MT warhead. it's has 11 miles of total destruction radius at air blast. It was deployed as city and bunker(NORAD-like) buster.
This video is SICK! The Minuteman III ICBM is twenty times more powerful than the bomb dropped on Hiroshima. This video does nothing but glorify destruction of the Earth and its peoples.
The minuteman itself wouldn't hurt anyone...its what it is fitted with that does the damage. They have missiles like this one that deliver 8-12 re-entry vehicles rather than just the one you see here...imagine 12 15 megaton thermonuclear bombs falling from the heavens...thats ONE missile...the soviets would have launched like 250-300 at the US if the cold war ever kicked off.
Didnt nuclear weapons prevent the cold war turning into a 'proper' war? It is true that there were still wars by proxy, eg Vietnam, but if nuclear weapons had not existed and the USSR had outright invaded the US or vice versa, the suffering could have been much greater. I dont however support the use of nuclear weapons during WW2 to target civilian population centres.
I sat in one of those Minuteman Launch control centers 1969 to 1972. As scary as having all those nukes were it probably did prevent World War III from happening
Great animation...love it!
