In order for us to turn the swords to plowshares, we must have the swords first. Haven't we learnt anything from our history? The ONLY way to guarantee peace is by being prepared and ready for war! If we seat on our laurels and hope that since we don't develop weapons in space no one else would, we are not just being naive or stupid, we are committing national suicide. period.
The comments here show us that there is a real danger that there will be a great weaponization of space. This will only lead to our destruction because really, the closest star to our sun is 4.5 light years away. So almost impossible for us to reach. The only 'defense' the proliferation of weapons in space will give is to seal the destruction of the human race. Countries should be less nationalistic and more pragmatic.
The fat ass American obviously has an inferiority complex.... He talks about threats like Native Americans and such, but I mean wtf, who is America's enemy today? No one. All men must learn to live in love and peace, no nation has the right to place weapons in space, which belongs to ALL mankind!
Eventually, we will need to defend ourselves in space. But if any weapon systems are to be deployed in space, it must be dependant on cooperation rather than domination. Think of the alternative.
