one thing i notice alot is be careful of you lower leg swinging! but i think your just nudging him but if you were to show be careful cause i judge will take off points!

Great riding but, whats an outline when the horse goes over the poles O_O please explain lol

sam only does it for a few seconds when he canters over the one pole, but 'working in an outline' is also called 'being on the bit', and it's when a horse is working between your hand and leg (i think, it might be a bit different), and they're forward going, and lower their head as they accept the bit.

some horses do it automatically because they've been taught, others, mostly riding school horses and ponies like sam don't do it automatically.

ur eq is pretty good. the only thing i would say is at the trot bend ur elbows a little more and try to stop them from following your body... like when u post ur hands shouldnt go up and down with u... other than that u and ur horse look great

you might want to lean forward a little bit more at the trot and shorten your stirrups a hole or two. but nice eq :]

Ahh no wait .. I've worked out why ;). Without being *forgets word*, we ride slightly different when we post in the UK .. we don't sit forward as much - same with canter. I've just noticed it when watching people's videos =].

But yeah, my stirrups were too short - at the time he had some really odd stirrups, and the next hole down was a few inches away, so it was either short stirrups or really long stirrups, and I prefer short ones :P.

And btw, in your jumping video, that was NOT an outline...he does that anyway.

Toby 2's got an outline for example, and Sam's was nothing like that.

The few seconds when he cantered over the poles with me was an outline..

btw the outline is not on camera because it was not filmed and to get him in to an outline is sooooo easy AND when he cantered over those poles i did not see you asking him for an outline so i know he did it naturrally

You didn't see me asking for an outline, but that doesn't mean I wasn't. An outline isn't natural to a horse .. so he won't have done it "naturally" unless it's taught, and even then that's not "natural", is it?

nice riding - he was going really nice and forward for you, very good to see :)

i could have sworn your stirrups are mega short =S like even for jumping? do you always ride that short or is it just me looking at it funny?

and you could have shorter reins and more contact to push him into your hand, with your elbows further back at your side (shoulder-elbow-hip-heel line) then when youre jumping he will have more impulsion when you go onto higher fences (and you will have more control)

Yeahh, my stirrups were short, but his stirrups are really odd...they're not a pair, so if I lengthen them, then one stirrup has like a metre gap between each hole, and then my stirrups are wayy too long XD. And I guess I'd rather have short then long stirrups, rofl.

welcome =] ahh i see - i always ride short (i am quite short anyway) but i ride with stirrups that should probably be 1/2 holes longer but it feels weird so i stick with that lol.
