ohh makes me want to shed a tear hearing that!!! miss those days of being young, invincible, no worries. Just go to school and hang with mates eat lunch, learn a bit, sent to the headmasters office hahaha love it!!!
There are two versions of the 1980s kiwi, the first one was animated in 1980 for both TV1 and TV2. In 1987, TV1 dropped the Kiwi in favor of another sign off. The version you are seeing was animated in 1989 for TV2, the differences are, the Kiwi hiccups at 0:09, the shot of Kiwi opening the door is extended slightly, and it says "Goodnight from 2" at the end instead of "Goodnight from Television New Zealand." Also, the cat is asleep in this version.
OMG thanks for posting this! I actually worked for TV2 back in '94, and played this to air. The "farewell" message at the end was a flash of inspiration from the other director I was working with. So good to see this after so many years. Thanks again. :)
whats the song in the end when they finish the goodnight kiwi video?

The Kiwi is mistaken to begin in 1981, when it really began in 1975 on TV2. In 1980, then TV1 picked the Kiwi up, and in 1994 they left.

Is the Goodnight Kiwi related to Piwi The Kiwi? Are they brothers? To find out, watch WORLD WONDER FROM DOWN UNDER – Video
