If a Gene granted me 3 wishes, Ide go back to 1988, watch this show front row seats! Def Leppard for LIFE:) Love the 80's
I've seen Def Leppard in concert 6 times in the last nine years and they've only performed this song one time. I really wish they would play this song more often. I love it!
Does anyone know what guitar effects Steve is using during the intro (at the beginning and after the first chorus) while Phil is doing the lead part? Sounds like it has some kind of trem in it and some other stuff...anyone know what effects they are?
totally agree.... I grew up with Pyromania, Hysteria and those where their best albums by a mile! Got to see them play Donny in 2003-2004 with Viv and its still by far my favourite live act... flawless... would just have been awesome for Steve to have still been there. Just not the same. I used to work with Viv back in his Sweet Savage days and I love his work with Dio too... but he's not Steve Clark... :|
Absolutely perfect... We got the band, we got the crowd, the lights, the cameras, the action..There's only one thing we ain't got......Best introduction ever!
Ever since owning this dvd, had the original VHS to back in the day....I always wondered if Joe laughed at himself after the show for saying at the beginningof this song "there's one thing we ain't got...." intro' ing Women......Joe, there were plenty of hot babes at this show...lol.
unfortunately we live in a time that has moved away from raw rock to computer generated crap. the new stuff is worshipped by good for nothing, ill advised, easily influenced teenie boppers without a clue. ROCK ON LEPPS. you will never die in the eyes and ears of true hard rock music fans.
This song, in this year, surpasses the album version and even their live version in '99 in my opinion. Wish I could've been old enough to attend one of their concerts in the 80's. Was only a kid then, but was too young to truly appreciate all of their music and the showmanship.

looj M8 like i fuckin said ask any 1 ere if they like new or old and every 1 ere will say old if u like the new then u got fuck problem u ever gone steve grave n that and then u will know how u feel about old def leppard

for what its worth I like both of the new and the old. While I do tend to think the Steve era was there greatest era the post Steve lineup has been pretty good too. They have experimented with there styles over the years and put out some quality tunes. Now if you cant accept it then thats your problem.
Old? New? Wtf are you talking about? It's practically the same band, and anyway you can't say it was because of Steve's death because as well all know, a band's material generally gets worse as they get older.
@123TheJoker aww cmon man...i loved steve too but vivian is a great replacement...he plays the songs how they should be and he's an awesome guitarist...everyone knows steve was the man, including vivian
@skridward76 If I had the chance to join a band like Leppard I would make albums that live up to Hysteria and Pyromania not the B.S. they have been giving to their fans for the last 19 years.W.T.F. is wrong with this band? Go back to working with Mutt Lang. He can make you guys sound like the old days!
@thunderdeed I agree. I loved this band growing up in the 80s but I haven't bought an album of theirs since Slang. I wouldn't blame Vivian joining the band, the guy can rock and play heavy but the rest of the original guys in Def Lep must have wanted to go in the direction they did go. A band can try something different but the albums they made in the last 15 yrs are too far different. I actually threw Slang in the garbage bin...that was it for me. Def Lep needs to get back to ROCK roots/sound!
@Rockywaves73 Phil did say their next album will be their most edgy in a long time when asked in an interview if Def Leppard was going to get back into heavier stuff. I'll believe it when I hear it though. Could just be trying to hype the album.
@Numba1Gama I hope so. I'm still a Def Lep, don't take me wrong from my earlier comment....just that I miss the days of Pyromania and Hysteria. I guess I should also correct myself about not being into them so much since Slang....there have been some good tunes here there on various albums but there has also been alot I just couldn't get into at all.
@123TheJoker They did! I get a lot of people telling me that their albums with Vivian are just as good if not better. BULLSHIT ! Sparkle Lounge was to sound like the old style. It does not!
Listen to Clark's underlying guitar (supporting Collen's typically ordinary solo) at about 5:30: what some people don't understand is that when Steve died, DefLepp's ability to seemingly always come up with innovative guitar riffs and parts died with him. Anybody can (and usually does) run up and down the frets; SC's melodic sense and sensitivity were just about unapproachable in rock guitar. Don't kid yourself about Mutt Lange's role: as good as Mutt was, it was all Steve. RIP, Steve.
i wouldn't say collens solo's were ordinary, steve played off collen and vice versa they had a magical sound together, i personally liked steve's style too but he wasn't def leppard on his own, but i do think when he died that they were never the same again, and if it was collen or elliot that died it would've been the same missing link too
Steve and Phil together were a guitar machine...and if you listen, the parts are meant to sound as one guitar (perfect example is Animal) and when you REALLY listen, you can hear all the complex things that are going on with the two of them that make it sound as "one guitar" I read an interview in Cirucs mag. when i was a like 15 (1989) and that is what Steve was saying, thats when I picked up on it, and opened my ears more. The Terror Twins were the best MUSICAL guitarists from the 80s.
@stoots74 So true!! I played animal at an audition for a music school, and found out how hard it is to play it with just one guitar, and the same thing also for "pour some sugar on me", great guitar parts!
@didymus46 I had someone tell me Steve was no songwriter he just came up with riffs. If you dont have the riff you dont have the song. For those who dont agree first 20 seconds of Photograph.
i saw them a few yrs back at the evergreen st fair in everett wa , they played some little po dunk speedway, and they crammed 8000 people in the stands, they put on a great show. Quite the contrast from the colisium in the 80's. They are one of the few to have longevity in this brutal buisness, and overcome major adversity. Rock on Def Leppard
Why doesnt anyone have the tallent to make this music anymore? Like honest to God the Jonas Brothers!? No one likes their music. They only like them because of their looks. Im glad Def Leppard is still around to kick those damn Jonas Brothers asses
Right the fuck on!! And its not just the JOnas Brothers, its the Hollywood Blvd. Bands like All American rejects and panic at the disco and bullshit music like that. In a matter of time they will all be but forgotten, and the rock legends like Zep and Def will be reverred forever!! ROCK ON MY BROHTERS!
dude its coz def leppard didnt have their head up their asses. they went with what made the music and their songs live. they had the greatest attitude. but now bands are all about the spotlight on their individual members, its bullshit.
yhh soon as he died she fuckin sold all off thm jjust for money for her self how selfish is tht should of kept thm in like a glass box so it keeps it value in stead of sum cunt get hold of thm
Hysteria is one of the best albums ever made. I still listen to it 20 years after first buying it. Great to see a rock band who can actually reproduce their music live too, awesome
So I heard that one of these guys beat G&R's slash at a JD drinking contest and won. Then Slash passed out and was T-bagged. Good thing they had a camera because that was the pic on Def Leppards backstage pass. Thank you VH1 behind the music.
Probably the best live band in the world. Fucking perfect, sounds just like the record.

i saw them a few yrs back at the evergreen st fair in everett wa , they played some little po dunk speedway, and they crammed 8000 people in the stands, they put on a great show.
