None of these phonies can full squat even 405. This half ass shit barely parallel sumo good morning lock outs with 167 ply metal squat suit, super duper power pants, 100 feet wide stand, belt size of truck tire, 3 miles long knee wraps drive me nuts. None of these guy can't sit down with weight like oly lifters. Such a fake
@fighting185 The point of it is to unload your muscle spindles of kinetic energy so your muscle force is doing all the work, it is brutal, so yeah, I would so put a lot of weight on the box, too little of weight on the box, and you are missing the point.
When I was in 6th grade I went to the Arnold Classic with my dad. I was a little fart at 70 pounds. I went to Westside and deadlifted 200, almost triple my body weight. I will never forget that. Westside is awesome. Loiue is a really nice guy.
once you get beyond the novice stage, yes, very much so, even if youre not a powerlifter. if youre new to strength training, id just concentrate on squats and deads and powercleans for the time being, for the lower body.
mike ruggerio, chuck vogelpohl,tim harold the master louie simmons giving the commands himself....and the other i dont know their names but all great athletes.
Who is that in the dark red shirt?!?! His legs are HUGE! By the way, I once criticized box squats (I'm pretty much a CrossFitter), but I've found them useful. The leverage on the posterior chain is impressive and has to be felt to be understood - like attempting a planche for the first time. Good mornings, reverse hypers, and box squats have their occasional place in my workouts.
can't remember his name but he could total 2400+lbs at age 19!!!!! his extremely powerfull. he is featured in the westside barbell squats dvd and the deadlift dvd. take care
That's PLAINLY parallel, buddy. There is no rule, nor will there ever be one that says you have to have your feet a certain distance apart. You have to respect the lifters that can put that much stress on their posterior chain, as well as the hips and abductors...
They're clearly parallel. I found westside squatting is much easier on my joints and targets my hams, quads and glutes much better. Westside understands the practical application of squatting when it comes to biomechanics. Of course, my goal is strength, explosive strength. Westside seems to be unsurpassed when it comes to explosive strength. The proof is their lifters.
no, you'd use the same stance but you'd be using a lot more weight. closer stances force you to use your quads and knees whereas that wide stance and sitting back onto the box utilizes your posterior chain and makes your lift a whole lot stronger. it also makes a lot more sense biomechanically to squat like that or you could ruin your knees.
I have a DV-tape from the same visit that I don't have transfered to the computer yet, and if i remember correctly it's Eskil T and Todd Brock and some more on that.

when you do these, are you supposed to relax ur muscles a little bit when you sit back on the box or no??
fighting185 1 year ago
@fighting185
I wouldn't really do that - most people relax to much and loose their form.

box squat is effective when done correctly but yes for a begginer if your looking to powerlift and get stronger then yes.
