  • Gary,

    Yep, that's beautiful, just beautiful.

  • :::Attention::: bot748 from ubotstudios com approves of GaryGarrett's videos. That is all.

  • Thanks for that - really enjoyed watching it - and listening to the music! Nice to read others' comments and great tip about the rolled up paper thingy - can't remember the name either even though I have a couple myself!! I'm new to water mixable oils but so far am enjoying using them but finding it hard to find much info on 'how to'.

  • personally i think these paints look dull and lifeless compared to real oils especially Old Holland.

  • nice 1 gazza!

i thought the subject photo a little boring...but your painting was way better and far more interesting

thanks 4 posting it for us

  • Enjoyed the music a lot!

    Very relaxing to watch!

  • wow...that is really nice, i havent tried oils yet, makes me want to go out and give it a try. thanks for posting.

  • Thanks. I really like what you are doing with pastels... pushing the envelope so to speak. the painting techniques for oils are similar to the pastels, I think you would do well with them. Have fun with them!

  • Enjoyed watching very much. Am about to take my first oil painting class, and am exploring supplies. Thanks for posting this.

  • Hi... since painting this, I have explored Winsor & Newton's pro series oils, and mixed with their cold pressed linseed oil & turp, they can dry in 1-2 days, faster than the watermix oils as less safflower oil is used. The orderless turp is very nice to work with also, Thanks for watching

  • huh intresting, i was thinking of making some of my own watermixable oils using the water mixable linseed oil they sell.

how are they when it comes to doing portraits (the water mixable ones) do you know?

  • H again. The water-mix oils have safflower & sunflower oils substitued for, or in addition to a little linseed oil. I don't think just adding water-mix linseed oil will make reg oils into water mix.... may become milky, don't know, haven't tried that. The Water-mix oils are good for portrait work (they work just like regular oils), maybe even better as they seem to dry a little slower, giving you more control over the final outcome. Thanks again for watching.

  • Great painting

  • Hey whats the small white pencil looking thing you were using I am a new painter and have no idea what that was

  • That is a paper-rolled blending stick (they have an official name which escapes me right now), the same ones I use to blend oil pastels... you can also use the pointed end of a small brush for a similar effect... basically, it's just sliding the paint aside to create a branch effect by letting a narrow line of the canvas or underpainting show through. Because it "plows" the paint to both sides, it tends to give a 3-D effect to small bushes, sticks & branches quicky. Thanks for watching.

  • Nifty. You have deft touch. A bit fast for a demo but I understand the time problem. A beginner would need a full-length CD for this. Well done. Jerry Yarnell watch out!

  • Nice.. but I think the painting need more depth in colour. Especiallyb the darker parts

  • thanks for watching

  • Great job! I Bravo! your very talented!

  • thanks for watching and leaving a nice comment.

  • Maravilhoso. Se não estivesse tão distante de mim, mandaria um quadro feito por mim, depois de suas aulas.

Saiba que vários Brasileiros admiram seus vídeos.

  • Something beatiful came from something devastating. Thanks for sharing. I am in heaven after finding water soluble oils. I was trying to be a watercolor artist, very frustrated and tried this medium, I LOVE IT! So glad you found it too. Thanks for sharing!

  • Thanks for the nice comment, and thanks for watching

  • Ireally enjoyed watching the painting develop...am seriously considering trying the water soluble oil paints...REALLY LOVED the MUSIC A LOT!!! :-)

  • Thank you! These oils are easier for me to get into as I usually paint acrylics. The tune is called "Sunrise at Vilano", a tune I wrote and recorded in 2003. The tune has quite a few clutzy notes and boo boos, but it was fun to do. The guitar is my home-made cedar acoustic guitar with a Martin piezo film saddle transducer. (I used to build guitars until Hurricane Francis took out my shop) Thanks for watching!!

  • excellent! I wish I could know what colors and brushes you used Beautiful painting!

  • Hello, thanks for watching! The set of paints is shown at the beginning of the video. I mixed burnt umber and cobalt blue with a little yellow for the darker background,,, adding more yellow and white for the distant tree areas. The forground tree uses the same colors with more white added. My brushes are the same as shown in some of my other videos. Hope this helps.

  • Wonderful! Thanks for showing us, your very talented!

  • Beautiful!

    Thanks for sharing

  • I've been thinking of trying these Artisan paints and watching your video will make that sooner rather than later! Enjoyed the music very much too.

  • Thanks for watching. I am glad you will be trying the paints, they are bringing me back to oils after 36 years of acrylics. I am finding more depth and subtleness tahn the acrylics seem to offer. Also I currently have 5 other water-mix oil demos here. Thanks again, good luck painting.

  • Wow, great job! Music was perfect for this video too!

  • No way! that is so cool. I want to eventually do that too. But I can't play and my singing is so bad.. But it makes for fun video's, lol!

  • Bravo Gary!Sei il mio mito..you are my idol! Please see my work on ELDORADOART end give my some stars..eheheheh .Ciao da Roma!!

  • Thank you... hope these videos help. Thanks for watching

  • Great job! I can see the things you can do with mixed oil paints.

  • These are great paints, they thin and rinse in water, then when you get home, use soap and water and a little vaseline and your brushes will stay perfectly fresh! Thanks for watching

  • water mixable oils...what an odd thing! LOL i love love love it, as I do all your work! hey, how's the mini horse doing?

  • Hi Retta, Thanks for taking the time to watch and leave a comment. These paints are nice and fun to use. The little horse is doing GREAT and we've had two others born this year, one had major problems but is doing very well now. Thanks for watching!!

  • Fascinating. I have never seen water mixable oil paint - must check it out. How long does it take to dry? were you scratching out on damp or dried paint?

  • The paint stays workable for 1-2 days and dry to a soft touch in 3-4 days, varnishable is a few weeks. The scraping was done through wet paint... had to keep cleaning the blade tip. Also using blending tortillions (paper rolled smear sticks) to scratch through and move paint in areas where my bush was a little too large. Thanks for watching... stay creative!

  • Very nice painting, Gary!

On a personal note, I tried to use water mixables, but, couldn't get a good dark up with the green/alizarin crimson I like to use.

However, since the last time I gave it a shot, I have come back to using (shhhh) black again. Not a lot, just a bit. (with acrylics and wall paints and for sure watercolor; hey. When I want dark, I don't want the paint arguing with me about it) but, seeing this makes me want to give it another shot.

  • Yes... the 10-tube set does not come with black, so I was "arguing" with the paint a little, but felt good about a combination of Alizarin-UltramarineBlue-PhthaloGreem-BurntUmber. i do like having more time to adjust my strokes and to do scratch-throughs. THANKS FOR WATCHING!

  • How were the water mixable oils to work with, I haven't try those as of yet? Nice painting

  • It's different than acrylics, closer feeling to oils. They DO MIX and THIN with WATER, so you can drink your solvent... LOL. Also it is REAL oil paint. The use a saffron oil and special linseed oil to achieve this. The paint stays wet and pliable for a day, and dries to the touch (mostly) in 4-5 days. Can varnish it in a few weeks. I may be switching to these paints as I liked being able to go back to a color I had used previously. THANKS FOR WATCHING.

  • thanks for the info I'll give em a try.
