At 50 years old you would have needed to replace the cord to be safe. You will need new caps and the tubes tested. Those radios will still work with bad tubes but sound like hell. Very nice find.
@chairdude1 They usually cut them because the last tie it was plugged in they probably got religion because the set smoked or popped. It's a 5 minute job to replace the cord but I would never do it and plug it in without looking it over first.
I neglected to mention previously that you should also replace any selenium rectifiers in the chassis to avert any safety issues. They are commonly used in electronic devices of that era.
If you have any wax paper caps in it, I would suggest that you replace them, along with any top hat diodes. If you don't do this, you could risk blowing the inline fuse.
Nice score if i saw one of these in the trash it take it in the blink of an eye, its a disgrace how people throw away perfectly good vintage stuff like this id love to have a radio like this
I never found any electronics in the garbage, but I have seen a vintage 1950s TV in a back alley beside the garbage can when I was a kid, but back then, I couldn't get it home. Now, I'd have swiped that thing in a blink!
I LOVE PEOPLE LIKE YOU WHO JUST DONT FIND IT AS TRASH AND YOU KEEP IT :D

Nice radio. Got a C725 today from an estate sale. It is basically the same unit as the G730 but with a plastic case.

Replace all the electrolytic caps (you said you had a hum). It appears you have some distortion too. Check the tubes as well.
