I still have my ertl Thomas and Toby, which have been passed on to my son who is also a Thomas fan, he likes his mega blocks Thomas because it fits nicely on his trackmaster Thomas tracks. charity shops and auctions are great places to pic up the ertl trains, i picked up big box of random toys at auction for about £5 which had in it an ertl Thomas, James and Gordan plus the carry case to go with them, as well as a tomy thomas but that was broken in half, comes in handy for spares though.

The brown brake van is from the episode Donald and Douglas,

The brown blocks go in two yellow slate cars that can be picked up by ertl cranky,

The orange coach is Toby's coach,

and the green and black coach goes to James or Henry

That locomotive that you showed at 9:00 was made by Lionel Trains, and it came with the book "The Torpedo Run" in the Great Railway Adventures book series. I have the book, and I imagine I have the locomotive somewhere. There were 2 other books in that series.

I think diesel 10 is the British version. I`m from the UK and I never saw him in shops but I went on image search and I saw mustard pics, and my nursery had a mustard diesel 10. I`m grown out of Thomas, but I still watch it sometimes, and I think the ERTL is the best series out there. Great video!

The characters you don't know the name of are Derek (he was never named until the merchandising and barely appeared), Old Slow Coach (who only appeared twice), Silly Truck (really just a generic box car), the Spiteful breakvan (who also was barely used), Henrietta (who became a supporting character and ended up not even speking anymore and the last two are just generic coaches and yes those things at the end are ertl items they're slate, they fit inside those yellow slate truck.

I can tell you that Take-Along was really successful after ERTL was discontinued. I know, because I was a big fan of it when it first came out. The first thing I remember getting was a Tidmouth Sheds with Thomas in it, and soon. My interest grew. I sold most of my stuff though. (Rolling stock for 25 cents) The last engine I ever showed interest in, was Spencer.

Leo, I have that blue Pennsylvania battery-powered train! They were made by Lionel. That was just one of them as well. They used to come in a pack with these pictures books that had stories about trains. That particular story is the Torpedo Run (also the name of the train). I recently found the book again and read through it, the illustrations are beautiful and the story is excellent, I'm sure it can be found on youtube. Quite the excellent little model as well!

(2 of 2) You could get "adventure" packs that came with the book, a CD or cassette tape of Levar Burton reading the story and a Learning Curve battery powered wooden railway model of the loco in the story. Lionel produced all the other things. There was also other stories that were written about other engines including the Big Boy. Btw, Learning Curve came out with the battery powered Thomas the year or two after this series came out. Weird how that works. haha.

It was a book series about the torpedo and also the Southern Pacific Daylight and the B&O's President Washington steam engine. The three stories follow two kids from California trying to meet up with there parents which are traveling to New York for the world's fair. Their father had invented the vista dome car and wanted to show his invention to someone that could build it.

I just bought a Hornby Thomas set, it's a secret project i am working on. What I see in the few shops who carry HO / OO trains is the Bachmann stuff is everywhere while the Hornby stock is limited. Here in Australia both are on the shelves competing side by side.

Whats also interesting is the price's are the same, set at $80 for either brand. It's actually far better value to buy a train set with Thomas than just a engine.

I don't have any, but i saw a mogul engine at the same place i got my wooden diesel several years ago. Also, i have an ertl story of my own. Near where i lived, there was a little shop, Toy Traders, where people sold their old toys to the people at the store, who then sold the toys onto new owners. I got many ertls that way! Unfortunatly, a bakery bought them out.

The names of most of those engines that you do not know are on wikipedia (Some of them). Most of them only appear in one episode, that is possibly why you do not know of them. For example, the one at 5:50 is called old slowcoach, according to wikipedia. And I have a lot of the Ertl engines, as I got them from when I was a child. I didn't know they were so rare!

I still have that motorized train! I believe it's a Lionel wooden railway, but it still works on Thomas tracks. It goes forwards and backwards, and tends to be a bit faster then the Thomas we have. My Thomas wooden railway was passed down to my brother, who then gave it to my youngest brother. The stuff I had is pretty beat up, but it's always nice to see him playing with the toys I grew up with.
