  • 720 we meet again but did you gain weight your not looking so good.

  • hey FuseG4, just got one from e-bay seller but upon opening it from shipping there is a 1" surface hairline fracture on the body close to the neck. Seller said it must have happened during shipping. Think, it is anything to worry about? Maybe just some acrylic paint or model paint?

Also, since it is stock the maple fretboard/neck finish is pretty thin. You said you put an extra layer of PU lacquer on yours. Did you break down the neck and spray or just coat it with a sponge brush?

  • @camlpg

A crack on the body is probably not a big deal. I'd keep an eye on it though, in case it gets bigger. But since the squier's finish is polyurethane, I'm not sure acrylics will take care of the crack.

When I refinished my neck, I completely refinished it. I sanded it to bare wood and then sprayed it with nitrocellulose laquer from a can. It was a bunch of work, but it came out with a much better feel. check out reranch.com for the process, I basically just followed their directions.

  • hey man.... that´s my strat too. I love it. Beautiful instrument. great sound and look. It´s by far the best squier product... this oe and the tele custom II with P90´s... Thats an amaing tele. I would choose it over a fender std anyday. really. Search it. Squier tele custom II (with p90´s) The black one. The prize is ridiculous and it´s truly... amazing.

  • @hungerstriker27

I had a squier tele custom with 2 humbuckers. The "custom 1" or whatever you wanna call it. It was actually the worst guitar I've ever owned! Terrible neck pocket.

Squiers have good and bad specimens, that's for sure.

  • hey man, how did you do the nitrocellulose finish on the neck yourself.. i wanna do it on one of my guitars too.. some tips would really help.. thanks..!

  • @kabirnagranee

reranch.com... I just followed the basic instructions on there. Very helpful site

  • @FuseG4 thanks bro.. :)

  • you got good taste in gear homie. love the daphne blue. vox head is tight too. my rig is a 50s classic vibe strat and tweed blues junior.

  • @blastofo cool man. I like those blues jrs.

  • The hot rails one has a much darker sound that I don't particularly care for.

The best squier strats I've played have been the Classic Vibe '60s strats though. They're a little more money, but the guitar sounds good out of the box, no mods required.

I haven't played the HH Jag but the have a cool look. They have a shorter scale length so they're rounder sounding than strats, plus the humbuckers make them warmer too. They're easier to bend strings with too.

message me if you want more advice.

  • Hey i want to buy my 1st electric guitar and i'm not really sure of wat to get. Is it ok to get the squier deluxe start u're showin in this vid, or should i better go for a Squier Deluxe hot rails or for the new squier vint mod. HH Jaguar with fixed bridge.

    Greetz :D

  • @furbyunicejafisher What kind of music do you play ?

  • @365Avalon mainly rock, i've purchased it alrdy, sounds nice, i'd like to get clearer sounds but this one rapes when distortion's on, crankin up the volume knob actually makes distortion. Only bad thing is the floating twin pivot trem, i hate it quite much..

  • @furbyunicejafisher

It took me a while to get my 2 point trem setup floating how I like it. I added a 3rd spiring, roller string trees & a new nut to improve tuning stability. It's actually very good now. There's no real reason why the 2 point should be any less usable than a 6 point one, it's mainly just a case of eliminating points of friction on the whole string path. Check out some tutorials on here.

  • @365Avalon i hate it, bridge went up once when i busted high E string, repair costed me 50 euros cos the adjustment n because i unscrewed evry single saddle :P

Evry time i take it to the tech, he tells me that the neck curvature is reversed or somthin, cos the wood has to get used to the climate here.

Well i just saw a fake strat copy, those that cost like 70 euros, n it had a classic 6 point bridge, n it actually looked much more solid than this one.

  • @furbyunicejafisher You must have got a bad one. You should just take it back to the shop you bought it from. My 2 point trem is the best I've had in over 25 years.

  • is this guitar good for country rock?

  • @deathanddestructi0n

Yeah it'd be fine. A lotta people think Teles and Les Pauls do the best for that kind of stuff, but I feel like basic 3 single-coil strats are versatile enough to do most kinds of music that don't require insane gain.

  • Nice Coke flavored Red Bull!

  • your thinking to much about your playing.. you sound good, but your soloing sounds too generic if you know what i mean.. like licks you would get from a book, that you're trying to play note for note. just play what you feel, and only play at the pace you're comfortable with, and eventually you can build up picking speed and finger speed.

  • @rockmasterdan1993

you're right. This was only a lil while after I got back into the guitar, as I had sort of never took it seriously before that.

  • aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhh. uhhhhh ummmm

  • Tele squier or deluxe strat squier?

  • @Emceetem

    sorry, what are you asking?

  • @FuseG4 Which one should i buy dude?

I play almost everykind of genre, but i need something will be awesome clean and heavy in distortion.

Any other brand of guitar might be helpful.

  • @Emceetem

I'd say if you play a lot of genres, get the strat. They sound more balanced to me than a tele, and the 3 pickups gives you a lot more sounds. You can put a high output pickup in the bridge position and get great distortion, and you keep the classic neck pickup for sweet cleans.

Teles feel easier for me to play, but they have less variety in sounds.

all that said, go try an epiphone Dot if you haven't already. those also have a nice mix of good cleans and awesome distorted tones.

  • @FuseG4 My friend has a chinese fake gibson, i didn't like the feel it was too heavy, but the strat sounds great, i love strats already but i wanted another perspective a deluxe squier will do it for me if i add a humbucker right?

Or should i look for a hss swuier strat?

I played one of those and i think they have a humbucker in the bottom it was before i knew anything about guitars,

  • @Emceetem

I've heard good things about the HSS vintage modified guitars from Squier. You could always get a deluxe and then get a single-coil sized humbucker, but there just isn't a huge variety of those. There are a ton of great full sized humbuckers out there, so I'd go with the HSS.

In my opinion, if you can, look in the used market for a made in mexico fender. After a while I've realized I like the necks on those better.

  • Nice mod! Sweet tones! I have modded my old beaters and brought them back to life. It is so very cool to see and hear the transformation back from the dead. Contrary to what some people think, great tone is not ALL in the wood. You have done some very good work here... keep it up!

  • you look like that guy who plays spiderman

  • @RO80T lol wut? ok thx. i've never heard that before

  • I sold the Squier a lil while back. American ones are great but I ended up getting a MIM. It just sounded more "airy" than the strat I had before.

I really like my MIM. I threw some new pickups in it and now it's great. No further mods required. Even if I had a MIA I'd still need new pickups. Those fender single coils are kinda... thin.

  • dont mod ur guitars save up ur money for a standard american made guitar. great tone is all in the wood

  • yo. this is not a review of a squier deluxe. this a reviw of a moddified guitar. when you do a review of a certain guitar you should do it with what came with it. not with what you bought and did to make better. overall nice guitar. i hate this daphne blue but like finders better. this blue just looks gay....sorry.

  • he bought a squire and modified it. that's a good way to save some $ :)

  • @TheFuggedaboutit - you are exactly right! Buying a Squier and modding it = saving money! Duh. Besides, it's fun! I have done this same thing more than once. I even modded a Squier Tele once and replaced the Squier decal with a Fender Tele decal and then didn't tell anyone. Nobody in the band nor the audiences even knew! Thanks for the post!

  • Is the standar pickpus on that guitar "Duncan Designed SC-101 single-coil pickups" bad pickups?

  • @TomPettyATHeartbrak

I don't like them. They are kind of thick sounding when clean and when you use a lot of gain your notes blend together too much. No clarity.

  • Right on man. Excellent review. I have this guitar in the Pearl White and refinished the neck as well. I have to say I agree with you 100% on this playing/feeling better than any MIM strat I ever laid hands on and even as far as Squires go, this line just seems to be top quality. Mine was made in Indonesia. Yours?

    cheers,

    Dean

  • How do you remove the squier logo?

  • @afiqfalif I refinished the entire neck. visit reranch.com for details.

  • good squier dude. Ive got a squier myself and I'd like to refinish my neck as well, in order to giver it a more "vintage look", since it is a very white wood with almost no finish on it. I looked for a luthier and he told me that it is not possible to make a maple neck look more bright and coloured. Obviously this dude was wrong. Could you tell me how you proceeded to refinish your neck?

  • @gypsysunerainbow

    1. sand down to 220 grit

    2. 4 days of spaying 3 coats/day of Deft clear Nitrocellulose

    3. 1 week of drying

    4. wet sand in steps up to 2000 grit then use finishing compound

just go to reranch.com it tells you everything and then some. the sell a dye that tints the neck to "vintage amber" as well.

    Have fun!

  • @FuseG4 seems to be difficult, but thanks anyway;

  • @gypsysunerainbow

yeah, it takes time, and some space where you can sand a lot and spray a ton of harmful chemicals.

As far as the actual work it's a cake walk. A good shop could do it for you but they'd probably ask for something like $150

  • the tunning machines are fender sealed die cast tuners and the body is alder and the neck is one piece maple....but in rest is a very good guitar especially if you put some lace sensor in it..like i did:D

  • well its not a review of the guitar since you've swapped everything out and it is completely un original, plus you've put way to much money into a squier

  • @RocktronGamer

i guess it's a review of what one can do with a squier as a platform.

it still cost less than the same upgrades on a MIM std. strat... and it would still need those upgrades, so...

    well whatever.

  • @FuseG4 hey fuseg4, how did you sand the squier label out?

  • @JeffreyCentino97

I hit the whole neck with 220 sandpaper. Came right off. Then I hit it with nitrocellulose

  • Squires are awesome becasue their a good base to build on. I even spray painted mine haha

  • @shaggy1039 did you gloss or tinted it after painting ur squier?

  • @JeffreyCentino97 i put a flat gloss on it.

  • red bull cola:)

  • @MMshadow360

everyone I know hates it but I LOVE it

  • more volume dude.. moree

  • @MegaFenderdude

save a lil more and get the Vibrochamp XD! That's a great lil amp for the money. Some great amp modeling sounds and it's hybrid tube amp. The tubes make it sound a lot better than the frontman series, IMO

  • @MegaFenderdude @MegaFenderdude

those arias dont look bad but I've never played one so I can't be sure! The affinity strats feel a lil cheap. They're not even the standard stratocaster body thickness! Have you looked at SX strats? rondomusic. com I've heard people rave about their telecasters and some say the strats are just as good.

  • @MegaFenderdude

hey thanks. It took a lil work to get it to where I like it like the MIM I used to have but the basic stuff is all there on the stock guitar.

These are fun to upgrade, mess with, and just rock out on.

  • Comment removed

  • What the hell is the point of reviewing a guitar that you've completely F#%ED with?

  • @Haydeosmith

    wow easy there,

It shows what squiers are best for: a platform for improvements. Stock squiers sound like $300 guitars but they don't have to.

If you want a review of the stock guitar then google it, or go play one.

  • It would be great to see you play the new telecaster, too.

    Pillsbury Doughboy rocks!

  • Good video!

It's good to see you wearing the Pillsbury Doughboy shirt I gave you, too!

I've started trying out my new blue Fender Strat and Marshall Haze 40 Amplifier!

  • @PhotonicCrystal1

    Hoss!

    I love that shirt

  • As an update, I put a seymour duncan Alnico II pro single coil in the bridge position.

Blows the duncan designed out of the water as far as clarity!!

Duncan designed pickups aren't bad, but there's certainly better stuff to be had out there.

  • what song are you playing from 6:00 to 7:00 ?

  • "Midnight Down" by The Pillows

  • i've heard that this guitar is comparable to mexican made fender strats.. how accurate would you say that is? Reason i'm asking is i dont really care what the brand is as long as it sounds good, i'd like to save some cash, and you cant beat that daphne blue finish. I think ill go with this one if the upgrades would cost less than just going with a fender in the first place

    Nice demo btw.

  • I have owned both. The MIM "satin" finish is absolutely superior in feel to the squier.

The MIM strat I owned had much better sustain and sounded much more "balanced" whereas the squier is kind of bright unplugged.

If you can save the money, go try MIM's in a store until you can find one that sounds good and then buy it. I would've done that if I had more money at the time.

  • That guitar comes with Duncan designed ssl-1's. Did you not like them? They give a very vintage tone. Just surprised you replaced the pu's. That guitar (not modded) is a great buy considering all it comes with...

  • I liked the clean tone. However, with some gain those pickups just were too thick/ no cut. The ones I have now have staggered poles and are brighter, and so the whole guitar just sounds a lil lighter, springier, and "strat-ier"

You're right on the stock guitar being a good buy. They come with some pretty awful strings, though. Mine buzzed like crap before I set it up.

  • Strings are an instant replace on any new axe. I think they designed those stock pu's a bit heavier to be more versatile. I tend to like a bit more oomph in my single coils. I plan on getting this guitar in the daphne blue very soon. Its a classic color. Squier has done a nice job with these guitars. Its a solid all around strat that doesnt cost 6-800 bucks. The american strats are off the map with their rediculous prices..

  • you'll like the guitar if you get one.

The one thing I do like with MIA fenders is the better hardware (bridge and bridge block= nice!) and it's MUCH easier to just pick one out of the warehouse and have it play like butter. Those rolled fretboard edges are the shiiz and so are the frets. comes with a case...

The USA strats for me about the FEEL, something my squier lacks but at least it has the TONE.

  • @FuseG4 so it there a $500 difference between the MIM strat and the MIA Strat

  • Get a used MIA strat or a highway 1. there is certainly at least a $200 difference.

I figure if u get a MIM for 449, ssl-1's for $143, the Am Std trem $100, and get a $200 fret job from a tech (and replace the nut), you're up to $892. Or you could get the am std. for 999, and have worse pickups but have rolled fretboard edges and probably a better piece of wood underneath, and a case.

for anyone uninterested in modding, the USA kinda makes sense I guess.

  • @FuseG4 did it buzz cuz of the fret board or becuz of the strings? or did you just need a set up? oh and one more thing, is there alot of buzzing on the fret board? just wondering cuz i mite get this guitar and soup it up lol

  • I've raised the action and get new saddles since I did the demo. I think my nut might be cut a lil low at the b string.

The volume of the amp isn't too loud in the demo, and I can kind of hear the strings adding a tinny sound to a few things.

Squiers go all over the map as far as fret work, you can get a dud or a gem, no matter which model you buy. I feel like I got one pretty in the middle.

  • @wedge070

Yes I think so, too. Because Duncan Designed PU's have this special Strat sound.

  • Cool review, Fuse. Rock on, brother!
