Interesting that after watching this movie I found myself later mimicking alot of Lesters behaviors; like starting to smoke pot again and getting hot rods.... its a mid life crisis thing. Men over 40 under 50 tend to develop a self awareness and contempt because they realize the system is a meaningless faith manipulation paradigm that leads to oblivion..i.e. nothng.
i feel in my place with all of you. i've had a connection to this movie since the first time i watched it almost 10 years ago. Its a dark comedy with a philosophical meaning alot of people tend not to see in the movie. The best example is the plastic bag scene. An average person would consider it a pointless part of the film but its indeed the whole answer to the movie.
One of my favorite movies ever. I appreciate this movie not for it's weirdness (yes, it's weird), but the message. Incredible how Alan Ball exploits simple interactions that we live everyday and make us stop to think.
I love this movie so much. And since AB... Kevin spacey has become my all time favourite actor !!! This is my all time favourite movie. I love it more than Talented Mr Ripley, Some like it hot or Memento!!!

i liked the movie but theres a huge plot hole. SPOILER WARNING: at the end when he says hes finally ok his life is in shambles because he became a worse father and a worse husband.
Once you get the point of the movie ... it will affect your life for ever... I don't know another movie that has affected my own perspective of life so drastically like American Beauty
@NaturalBornHedonist I completely agree. This movie is so..... astounding to me. Everything about it I love. The flying bag scene was, in my opinion, very crucial and actually one of the most thoughtful and deep scenes in cinematic history (at least that I've seen). I may sound silly saying it, but that's how I feel. and I'm glad.
@NaturalBornHedonist You know what, I couldn't agree more... I have just this minute finished watching the movie and feel rather introspective!! Fantastic film.....

Not really. Jane was happy and leaving with Ricky anyway. And Carolyn was happy with that real estate guy.
