  • Yes! That was great ! Thanks for posting

  • 5:10 1984 Mainlander kids in Western clothes, probably had friends (or dads) in high places

  • 4:15 Pepsi with Darkie toothpaste, hahaha

  • @Roodosutaa ...Darkie was originally a 1933 Chinese toothpaste brand bought by Colgate/Palmolive the same year this video was made, IIRC, it's still sold in China, with the name changed to Darlie, but the racist stereotypes left intact, and is not available in the US. There are reports that visitors from China and US tourists returning who have tubes of Darkie in their bags are having them confiscated by customs officials. Go figure.

  • @B0bMosley3 I should know, I was born in HK. Last I checked (on a business trip 2 days ago) it's alive and well and yes I remember as a kid in the 80s they made a big fuss about the name change with a full tv commercial and newspaper ads announcing the change.

Still called "Black Man Toothpaste" in Chinese though. Even though the mascot is anything but black.

  • Damn China has changed !

  • The woman at 4:21 is George his sister Melanie. :-)

  • Thank you Carla.

  • I have read that the woman at 4:21 is George Michael's sister. She does look very Greek. Does anyone know if this is true?

  • Not only was the Wall's fall an important symbol of the end of Communism, but just as much was Wham's trip to China four years earlier. I remember seeing this as a 15 year old and not thinking much of it. I didn't realize it was a tectonic shift that I was seeing. I just remember thinking to myself; "wow ... Chinese chicks are hot."

  • Pop frees China ~
