  • The mallet player is missing some notes in the beggining, just saying. I would know since i have that music..

  • We're playing this. Haha :)

  • The conductor looks like a Kung Fu master if no one was following him.

  • dang!!!!!!!!!!!!!!we are gonna play some beast stuff. I got in honors band in my audition :]

  • It's a lovely song. We're playing it in our Orchestra, and it listens great. But I have to play the 4th flute, so I'm just playing the long, deep sounds... that's quiet boring.

  • We are playing this right now for our Sping Concert. I play 1st Horn and I love this piece!!

  • Who knew this song was about 6 minutes long? I'm playing this for concert band. This would probably be my last time playing in the band since I decided to leave band. I'm playing 2nd trumpet. It's an epic song that probably represents finding treasure. Anyways, I was quite surprised how popular this song is, even in Japan!

  • my school is playing this right now, im playing baritone horn/ trombone 3, i love the smug over lay meledy that accents the trumpets at the 2nd movement of the secondary melody lol if you could follow that.

  • i'm doing this song tonight at my school :D

  • Omg why can't the grade 10s play this better in my school cause we were preparing to play this but they suck so my band teacher said it was cancelled

  • kinda slow and either the conductor, the band, or the audio was off cause it LOOKED like the conductor was off beat...

  • we are in 8th grade and are playing this for concert festival

  • Ahhh Theres always that one clap at 2:35 lol

  • ITS GREAT! The only thing wrong is that your not following the dynamics. Our band conductor was all on us about that

  • AND does it realy matter how FAST it goes they are doing it perfectly

  • needs some contrast in volume, there are somce crescendos and decrescendos which i don't hear

  • First off, the song is extremely slow but it seems as though the director gives up on trying to speed it up after about a minute. The trumpet solo has absolutely no feeling/soul to it..

I played the snare and timpani on the song at two different times (I was first chair) when I was in middle school (W.E. Greiner, GO YELLOW JACKETS!!!) and even though I didn't play the marimba, I'd say those sticks were way too solid for this song. It sounds like plastic hitting wood.

  • Pretty slow, my school would rape this like nothing. (:

  • So cool to see my band when i was in elementry. GO HAWKS!!!!!

  • i'm playing the french horn!! so hard..

  • 小学生のころ演奏した曲...なつかしい。

I played this song when I was an elementary school student.

  • the trumpet solo sucks!!! i can do it better :D

  • I play snare drum for this song and my school played it faster than this.

  • Man, that's a great sounding middle school band and this is one of my fav concert pieces.

  • hell ya! i played timpani for this piece in 1999 i believe for 7th grade middle school band :] This school played it better i think though haha

  • this peice is much faster but they played it very well for it to be a middle school...great dynamics

  • awesome

  • Wow they're really good!

  • So pretty

  • Comment removed

  • @NatureLovr19 ya you are totally right it's hard to concentrate when it looks like he's trying to slow down the band

  • @edtheabraham im used to it cuz that's what my band director does, he just gets so excited i guess.

  • @NatureLovr19...just an FYI...He is the 2010 CCC TMEA Honor Band Director...

  • Ya sorry....... i guess your right...... maybe its the camera thats a little off. Whatever.....it was just my opinion....he is probably a good director....because every conductor conducts a little differently. :-)

  • I played 2nd trumpet in this, but I wish I could've played 1st because they sound amazing. Probably would've been able to if I didn't have braces. They make playing trumpet hard as hell. Thank god it doesn't also have the same effect on my piano playing :P (but I'm not that good on it either, lol.)

  • @ musicalpiano100... i played trumpet 1 in this song in my 8th grade band and i have braces :) but i can only wish i could play the piano lol

  • @MusicalPiano100 I hear ya. I'm 2nd trumpet too thanks to my no good braces. :( Luckily I get them off this summer so hopefully next year I'll be really good.

  • I played this last year in middle school but i quit band to join football & soccer in high school.

  • theres a squeek from an instrument in second 59

  • hey im playing this in my winter concert yeah i play the clarient theres only 2 of us and its so hard to do with such a small band but its going to be great!!!:D oh btw this aint vicroria its tabitha her sister lol but its going to be great!!!!

  • our (symphonic ) band plays this ! we got it as a piece to recorde for our concert band. of course we just got it but we are still working on it. !

  • I love this song!! We r playing it for our fiesta dinner! oh btw: around 2:24 a clarinet squeaked

  • i played clarinet....man i miss band

  • Im playing this song right now for Baritone Saxophone and its pretty cool, But duuuuude these guys are barely even following the conducter, hes not even needed !

  • they sound is probably out of sync with the video

  • @cammywhoresRus ummmmmmmm who needs to that band is the best in the state of TX

  • I played this last year (Tuba!) i still remember how to play it.. My band hated this song, well untill we learned it.

    -THSB

  • brings me back to primary school.. i miss flute! :( and we got champion for this song :D

  • im playing this song for end of year concert. btw, im playing the percussion..Bells and xylo.! PERCUSSION RAWWKKSS! AND BLUE RIDGE SAGA!!! :D

  • the band is so far behind the conductor, its like hes not even needed

  • love this song, it brings me back to high school

  • i play 1st clairnet in this song it's a lot of fun this sounds really heavy..the tubas are too loud! haha..they always are jk i love the tubas..but we did play this a lot softer..it was fun fun

  • AHH! I played this in middleschool like ten years ago! I still remember how to play it on my mallet percussion instruments. Ahh memories

  • tuba rocks

  • im playing this in my 8th grade concert tomorrow!

  • My Eighth Grade Wind

Ensemble class just played this for the Music in the Parks competition. It was my favorite one to play. We got a Superior rating and second place!! Overall this video is good but I think the band needs more dynamics and stronger accents. The beginning is louder and faster than it's supposed to be. 4:30 and a little after, the band is half a beat ahead of the conductor, same thing at 5:00. At 5:27 up until 5:47 the notes need to be more spaced out because it's a march.

  • yeah when we first when through this song we made a lot of those mistaked..i agree with all your statements though

  • this is pretty god. were playing this peice at south high school.

  • southwood?...then your in my band haha..i miss this song!

  • Awesome! OMG, this is a really cool piece. I have to play this for South Central in NH, and im sorta worried about it.. It sounds so cool, but the flute is sorta hard... but oh well! Blue Ridge Sage sounds so cool!!

  • My high school band is playing this right now! We play the beginning a whole lot softer, though. lol. But you all did a good job! 5*!

    xoxo-Ashleigh

  • a group of totally talented kids... but there is still room for improve.... at 6.09... the brass should come in strong to seek attention rather then entering like a mouse..... overall, well done kids..:)

  • lol some one went out of tune.

    wow,they're really good.

    i'm a euphonium player! :P

  • My high school band just played this for UIL contest last Wednesday. I really loved this piece. It was the best one out of the 3 that we played. I'm playing it again at a contest at Disney World this weekend. I'm hoping that we do better then we did last week, cuz it really sucked.

  • For some reason I think they need more dynamics. But really they are good, lol our HIGH SCHOOL band is playing it, and man do they need some ADD Meds.

  • I agree... it almost sounds like they are playing the same dynamic through most of the song with maybe some slight crescendos.

  • when i played in the Southern Alberta Hounor Band, we played this very song. It was my favorite song

  • For a middle school, you guys sound good

  • The Trumpet Solo Was Pretty...But He Shouldnt Breathe Through The Whole Solo...I Play Trumpet Im Very Good...And I Have That Solo In My Band..I Learned Circular Breathing..But He Should Take Bigger Breaths:)

  • ya i can tell u play trumpet, lol our best trumpet is stuck up and ignorant, rlly snotty type, i guess it just comes with being good at trumpet :) btw he did fine on the solo

  • our first calrinet is really stuck up too. She really ticks me off a lot, with her all "superior" attitude.

  • this is a really good song.

i play it in my band too.

  • it sounded good, overall. just work on actually conducting it RIGHT :D

  • okay. heres how its supposed to be: the beginning needs to be slowerr, like not by much but just slowerrrr. the french horn opening was very good :] im proud. [because im a french horn player myself.] the part after the snare comes in at first was good. the part that the clarinets and flute come out was WAY too slow. bring that pace up. the trumpet solo was perfect volume. french horn soli needs to be worked on :(

and the percussion solo arfter that, bring the speed up. wrong speeds everywhere.

  • very good!!!

  • Excelent pieces and preformed by a very good sounding band. Every one is pulling their part of the bargen. It is just wonderful. This song almost makes me cry. You could put more musicality into it. But that is just me i'm a trumpet player and we just went to festial here in vegas 3/11/09 and we played a piece called Knights of Destiny and I had a solo and played it musicaly and got good gradings.I'm just a musical person who likes to put my heart in music. Still Rudy Well Done You Kicked Ass!

  • we played this last year ad got a 1 1 1 1 1 :))

  • i'm not sure but i think the snares weren't together... my band is starting this song in a couple days and i don't know what its supposed to sound like

  • they sound right a few things but that is it.

  • you are good. we are playing that in a compitetion. in 8th grade band. i love it. we always race to see who can play the clarinet part the fastest. lol.

  • i can see my head haha

i remember this.i loved this piece

i miss this band so much.

  • ..WHAT THE HEACK, U GUYS ARE AWESOME :]

    ..from calgary, canada

  • I have a few things to say:

French Horn were way behind at the opening. At times Glockenspiel and Xylophone could not be heard. At measure 25 xylo was a little behind. The Glcok player was late at measure 200. In measures 41-84, it was really slow. Trombones, nice job raising your bells and not playing into the stands- that is my band's big problem. Nice trumpet solo, but at 110 it was supose to be a F, and the band played at a P. 4 out of 5 stars. -A Pit Prcussionist player in my band.

  • @BellatrixLlvr Holy your music pro ! :D

  • i am playing this for my consert

  • why is it so damn slow...... i know that it is a middle school, however they chose the music. therefore, they should play all the normal tempos... still excellent (I played this for my Festival March 11, 2009) we got all 1's except in sight reading, we got a 2

  • im playing this for festivle. i love to play in the midde cuz i play clarinet and its cool

  • i remember playing this song in middle school... a LONG time ago

    so many memories

  • barti tone tuba son!!!!!!

  • WOOT! Go Mr. Herrings!!!!

    :D

  • French horns PWN

  • Best Band Song Ever! My Band is doing it and its da bomb!

  • BRAVO!!!EXCELLENT!!!

  • french horn = love.

  • DUDE, MY BAND CAN PLAY BETTER THAN THAT !!!!!

i go to horizon middle school and trust me , we are waaaay better than that. i play flute and i'm first chair, so i know that. and we are going to play this piece at UIL competition so, don't be impressed when you hear us !!!!!!!!

  • ........

  • this is so weird. I played this just today.

  • 2ND TRUMPET!!!

    THEY'RE THE BEST!

my school L'Anse Creuse High School North is playing this.

  • Trombone > everything else

  • These kids put my high school band to shame... I'm not really a fan of the camera placement as whenever it pans over to the right all you can hear is low brass. But it's okay, because it's GOOD low brass.

    BTW: Trumpets pwn.

  • We playing this in band class

    French Horn FTW

  • this is probably one of my all time favorite songs ever written.

i played first trumpet in it the first year i learned how to play (about 4 years ago now) and i still play through it for fun sometimes

  • I dont know if the snare player was just lagging like a fraction of a beat behind during the last sixth-eighth time or if our percussion has been playing it wrong, but this is way better than our band =/ we have like a zillion trumpets and half of them suck...

  • I love this song! I play the first clarinet part in this song.

  • lol i play the first clarinet part in this song too XD

    Clarinet FTW!!!!

  • LOL me too Clarinetz 4 life!!!

  • LOL yea Clarinets FTW !!

  • I play basically any part I want, i prefer the Baritone lead part. They sound better than my high school band at any rate. Most of them suck. Since there Middle school I wont be a critic. Go Kids I hope they do more and better things in there life.

  • This song is so pretty! Were doing this for our concert next month along with a Nathan Hale piece whic is mega cool!

  • i played this two years ago in honor band. i played the xylophone and it was AWESOME! (we played it at max. speed on the 6/8 time part, tho the xylophone part was soo much fun)

  • He's playing it too fast.

    The band sounds good though.

  • I play the trumpet (2nd) part in this music. It is easy for me to play it.

  • my school honor band is playing this for our spring concert

  • I am doing this for my school concert tour this year...along with other James Swearingen favourites like Majestia, Centuria and Windermere.

  • Im playing trhat for UIL this year m third clarinet part cause clarinet is the shiznit

  • ugh..My school's band played this last year and we are again this year. This is too freaking easy!!

  • I gada do this for my band concert...(-_-")

I think my teacher is expecting too much of me right now.

  • My school is doing this for concert has well. I will be playing the glockenspiel and xylaphone parts.

  • lay off people

i was in this band when we played this piece. We learned this in 1 month. This piece was way too easy for UIL so we let this one go and we played A Longford Legend,Overture for Winds and His Honor

and on Nov.20-24 we went to WIBC(western international band clinic in Seattle)

  • The band sounds great! The videographer needs improvement though.

  • lol I'm playing bass guitar for Tuba part in this song I still don't know how to follow the tempo indication of my teacher

  • My Band is playing that.

    It's hard as like hell.

  • Sweet!! I like the beat!! I so wish can exchange learning ideas among my school and ur school!!! ARh!! but i think is impossible!!......

  • wow, horns need to work on tuning and playing together at 4:00

  • O.O no ones moving at all.......?

  • its good

  • i like this song espically the clarinet part because when u hear it u can feel peace and happyness

  • we,re playing it this year but we have a long way to go

  • Ya, my highschool band played it in 1995. I played percussion. I just find it funny that this is a middle school band and I played it in highschool.

  • same here

  • Nice job, guys. :) I think EVERYONE played this at least once while they were in Jr. High. I remember playing it back in '94 when I was in the Jr. High band. Haven't heard this in years, brings back a lot of fun memories. :)

    Keep up the good work.

  • I love this song!

You guys did pretty good for being a middle school.

The pace is a slight bit slow.

Good job for the clarinet who squeaked.

    CLARINETS RULE THOUGH.

  • Yeah go Blue Ridge middle school!

  • When i was in middle school, my band teacher's teacher composed this peice (and many others) he was the first band to play most of Mr.Swearengen's music. I loved this peice,it's so easy, but so nice/emotional. Our teacher told us that Swearengen wrote this about an old lady sitting on her front porch, looking out into the ocean, and thinking about her life. And, yes, in the end she dies (gasp)

Good tone, good job, sounded great

    BAND IS BAMF

    (Expecially drumline)

  • yes this song isn't easy. my school band is playing it too ;D

  • we are playin it now it is pretty hard... i think anyway

    i play flute

  • haha my middle school band kicked their butt at this song!!

  • You wish!

  • aha!i heard a clarinet squeak!0:59

  • the snare drummer made a mistake in 4.50,he rushed to catch up but couldn't.that ruined the song abit

  • my school band is playing this, and no way is it easy...not looking at how much time we use on it

  • Somewhere at 2.50?

  • ahhh we played this song when i was in band..

the french horn part is soo lovely. [:

    1st chair! ;] haha.

  • theres a french horn solo?

  • The conductor was cute :D.

  • i like this song...it is easy to play...very emotional song...

  • I played this last year.

  • i love this song!!!

  • Muito bom!!!

    Parabéns

  • OMG I PLAYED THIS YESTERDAY!

  • Go mr.t

  • we played ds song 2 n our trumpet section did the 3 eightenth notes better

  • Hey we played this for contest! :D

James Swearingen [sp?], who wrote this piece, came from our school.

  • we got three 1s so in your face

  • our song did this song last year and i miss it, its the best band song ever

  • I played this song for UIL and we got a 1! xD we play the beginning slower than you guys though but yea it's all kewl =]

  • yeh like alost girl sed, it shud be much faster and like double forte on that part.

  • our school is playing this for contest =)

  • the blue ridge saga was nice. but on bar 21,the tempo should go abit faster. and you guys should have more 'jumpy' feeling on the first note of 21&bar 41,play more 'fiercely' . thats what my conducter told. hehe (:

  • oh my gosh will you please take this down. we did so bad.

  • Ha!! You should see how my band did... We did really good for our band, but horrible for this song. We didn't even play it all the way through. We had to skip from 90 to 192. Then our band director started 192 while we were turning the page and no one was ready.

  • maybe they are still young.... the trumpet solo is not really that good....the best i ever heard was from new town secondary school fr singapore

  • We played this at school as well, 1st chair clarinet woo! Got a 1 on UIL :)

  • I did too but our stupid solo trumpet messed up so we got a 3!

    I play bassoon

  • Played this for UIL. Was the only alto sax... XD

I liked playing alone though. This is pretty nice, but I find it funny that this is the middle school next to ours. I feel almost cheated playing the music our middle school played...

  • Glockenspiel and Xylophone :P

  • this one is so good! we are playing it at my school and we are doing pretty good. the 6/8 time did slow down a lot tho. it sounds a lot better when you play it faster. but good job!

  • i play this on maramba!

  • I play this song. :)

  • we played that at our school> we

PONED it> our trumpet solo was awsome

  • trumpet solo :))))
