you dont really need a flame weapin to set the gas on fire you can ignite it with a gunshot or a greanade also,the shishkebab is the only melee weapon that can light it (key word:"melee")

@mechacombatflood I know.At the start of the game when your in the first metro station, there is a fence gate with ferals behind it.Unless you pick it, you can only open it with the key, in a desk in a room nearby.On the desk is a terminal, which can be used to unlcok the nearby safe.Before unlocking safe, select test gas flow and the area with the ferals will fill with gas.Retrieve the laser pistol and unlock the gat.Prun back to the room an fire 2 shots at the ferals.Gas ignites and you know.
