  • wow such a unique sound

  • hello Guam,

What about David Djinipirdi Marrkula ?

  • No, not quite.

  • I bet Luke on the Salt Water Video dash

  • On Baru,

same fast hard playing, same face:))

  • Was it Luke or Djawa

  • Djawa Yunupingu

  • No.

  • Ciao Guan,

    how about

    Luke Djamanggi Bukulatjpi??

    Martin

  • Yes, well done!

  • Thanks Guan,

but without the last clue I was lost..

    Who are Luke's parents?

    cheers, Martin

  • Hi Guan,

after happily listening and looking at lots of your videos again, I want to have another shot, though I am not completely sure..

    Djutu Gurruwiwi?

    Martin

  • Not quite but good try! I think I need to give more clues...

  • to me there is a slight resemblance to Dhapan when th clip is paused any where close?

  • No.

  • grr arg

  • I didn't say it would be easy ;-)

    But it ain't impossible either!

  • and bruce appears in a couple that I can find

  • Not Bruce either.

  • well his younger brother Wanarrapi Wunungmurra

as hes mentioned in only one video lol

  • No.

  • Im gonna have another shot with Bruce Burrngupurrngu or younger brother Wanarrapi Wunungmurra

  • No.

  • was the mention on a video recently ie within a year or longer?

  • Don't know, haven't checked, but that would be giving away too much if I was to tell!

  • Hi Guan,

fantastic playing. Love the way the drone goes up and down with the playing pressure. My guess is Naparrawuy Wunungmurra - The playing sounds like Wambuna Wunungmurra (on Mulka project pages but the physical similarity is not there-at least as far as I can see). He is the splitting image of Bulunggitj but obviously older. Anyway, my guess is Naparrawuy.

    Martin

  • Hi Martin, not Napurrawuy, not Wambana either. Wambana (or Wambarna really, the 'n' is retroflexed) has a different mother to Bulunggitj, Wambana's M is from Groote Eylandt.

  • Hmm, what clan? If you say Djapu, I say that looks like Wurduwal's brother??

  • Hi Jason, no, not Djapu clan and not Mr Mununggurr's brother but good try!

  • Not sure if my last post went up so here is my guess again, not based on looks, Wambana Wunungmurra?

  • Good try but incorrect. I do have vids of Wambana though and will put up today :-)

  • Has this guy ever been in your youtube videos?

  • Ah, good question... he has been mentioned b4 and if you look closely you'll see him too - I know of 1 vid but there might be others... not easy looking through 370 clips :-(

  • Malalinya Wirrpanda or Mudiny Guyula (real guess here??

  • Hi Paul, no, not these guys. I've mentioned these 2 blokes in the iDIDJ Store as they are on a CD but they are not mentioned on this YouTube channel.

  • route is the missing word lol

  • Have we gone down the Francis Gawurn

  • any further clues would be great

  • AHHHH I give up lol

  • or possibly again Adam Marrilaga from one of the Videos

  • You reckon he looks like Marrilaga?! If you read through other people's comments you'll get a better idea of the clues already available so far. No, not Marrilaga, sorry :-(

  • Is It Francis Gawurn? Based on his brother (Djulukpirri) being featured earlier and a similarity in looks? Hope these are not horrible guesses I just enjoy re-looking through all the old videos!

  • No, not Francis Gawurn. I'll provide more clues in due time, but interesting to hear the responses so far!

  • if he looks like someone on here already looks a little Like Larry if you squint but im guessing there is no relationship other than some kind of Kin ship?

  • How about Bandamul Munyarryun then?

  • Stockie, you're just thinking of any names that come into ur head right?! No, not Bandamul.

  • I hope this is not a bad guess, but I couldn't put a face to an artists name who is mentioned as a good player. Could this be Dhapa Ganambarr?

  • Not Dhapa!

  • or Quincey Matjaki

  • Now you're just making wild guesses ain't u?!? There's vids already of Matjaki on this channel, this bloke looks nothing like Matjaki!!!

  • Hi Guan is it Roy Burnyila

  • Roy doesn't play like that! Plus there's already images of Roy here on this channel and on the Forum, if you seen a similarity to Roy then I'm confounded...!

  • Mirrwatnga Munyarryun??

  • No.

  • Wild guess: Ngongu Ganambarr. The only good player I know of not featured on this channel :-) I guess it's time to come to Arnhemland... I have an excellent yirdaki made by Ngongu, I know he can play great too...

  • Not Ngongu. I wouldn't say he is the only good player not featured on this channel. There must be dozens and dozens of others! That's why I'm doing this work, to promote and to raise awareness of talent that would never be heard outside of Arnhem Land otherwise.

  • I ment the only one I know of, I realise there must be many more! I'm thankfull there are that many who keep it alive!

  • still guessing "Andrew Mingama"

  • Not a bad attempt, but still incorrect.

  • Guessing: Makuma Yunupingu

  • Good try but incorrect.

  • I give up, found the video i had in mind, but it's Darryl Digarrnga Brown holding the yirdaki in a similar way... Looks like this man has never been featured before on this channel...

  • Hi Ray, not Darryl. One clue... it is true this man has not been featured before on this channel, but his name is mentioned somewhere in the 370 videos currently on this channel!

  • Hi Guan! Happy to see new action, thanx!

  • Hi Guan again! Having trouble with the buttons ere, but yirdaki playing is still getting better :-) Happy to see new action, thanx!

  • Bulunggitj Wunungmurra ?

  • Not quite, try again!

  • Elijah Gunydjurruwuy

  • No, it isn 't Elijah. Looks nothing like Elijah!

  • Malalakpuy Munyarryun

  • No, try again. Is this a wild guess or something?!

  • Gapanbulu Yunupingu

  • He doesn't look anything like Gapanbulu, what made you think of Gapanbulu?!

  • wowo that's amazing dont have any idea who he is, im already circular brathing, but i have to practice a lot!

  • Hi Guan, long time no see....

    its Bibibak Mununggurr.

    Dan

  • Try again, not Bibibak.

  • I think it is Dhapan Yunupingu too, seem to remember he holds the yirdaki this way in another video too, and his style is similarly incredible...

  • Nelson has improved alot. He sounds even better in this video than in the older ones.

  • Sorry, not Dhapan.

  • No, not Dhapan.

  • whoever he is, he is one of the best I have seen!! unbelievable!!

  • I think this is: Nelson Dhapan Yunupingu.

  • Yes indeed it does resemble Dhapan or his brother. But my goodness he has changed alot. Its that smile. I remember that from an older video

  • Not Dhapan, sorry. Dhapan has changed in his appearance indeed, but not in this way...

  • Guess again!

  • I have no idea- but he's awesome!

Good to see you uploading more vid's again guys. You've been missed :-)

  • Wow! Sounds like that Quincy guy (Adam Marrilaga's brother).

    This is outrageous playing!!!!

  • I have no idea but Im going to try and find out!!!
