Chess Records, then owned by General Recording Tape (GRT) Corporation [although not mentioned in the recent film "Cadillac Records," was the firm that bought Chess directly from owner Leonard Chess] unfortunately was in a downward spiral in 1971-75, releasing several masterpieces, including Bama The Village Poet, American Gypsy, The New Rotary Connection, etc., all which were never were promoted correctly at radio/ retail; these latter Chess/GRT releases could easily be found in discount racks.
