I mean, ordinary muslims seem to think Muhammed was a great guy and an example everyone should follow, and that the Quran really is the true word of Allah. If they lived as the bible teaches, they would go to jail. And I tell this to them, just as I tell muslims that the Quran is an outright horrible book, and if they lived as it teaches, civil society would be destroyed.
People are more complex, but the books are not. They are simply horrible books that should not be taken seriously.

He tells me the translation is correct, and he is also incredibly anti-islam, so I assume he knows what he is talking about, having lived in Iran and all.

I mean, ordinary muslims seem to think Muhammed was a great guy and an example everyone should follow, and that the Quran really is the true word of Allah. That is the definition of 'radical' from a western point of view.
When I meet some muslims that say, "I see the Quran more as metaphor", I will have met a non-radical muslim, but that day has yet to come.

They were prosperous when rights and civil liberties were respected and when they took care of the sick and poor among other things. @alydamarte True to an extent. Muslim's were recruited into the ss during the closing stages of WW2 but the Nazi's were grasping desperately at straws at that stage. Mostly European Muslim's from the former Yugoslavia region in a futile attempt at combatting partisan threats in that region, even though the Croat's (a Catholic nation) were already on board and had delivered troops to Germany for the Russian front, it all gets a bit messy here though and almost impossible to figure out

@idontcarei you know the quran is another iteraton of the bible. Which is an iteration of the old testament. I believe that any religion can be used to justify anything whether peaceful or not. Look at the shooting in Norway. The person behind that wanted to recreate the knights templar a Christian fundamentalist group. Which were killing Muslims to reclaim the holy land under their god during the crusades. Christianity and other religions may be peaceful now but could come out violent again.

@monokhem Yes but the acts you are describing are from the past. Almost every religion has had a dark past associated with it, even the "peaceful" religions of Hinduism and Buddhism. Yet the rest of the world has modernized and adopted peace as a way of living life whereas the backwards Muslims are stuck in the past. Poverty is no excuse for acts of terrorism. Almost all of the middle eastern countries are filthy rich from oil revenue. And where did the 9/11 terrorists come from?
