Look up doepfer. they create the sound modules (VCOs, LFOs, Mod EG, etc) and that massive rack mount case he has.. its pretty cool, im thinking bout setting one up but...

for his set up its probs roughly about £5000 for all those modules.

@ttoxique well obviously.. i said think of it like reason but as actual hardware because then you can go and have a look at reason, see how its wired up and experiment with it.

Much cheaper way to get your head around how to wire modules up and learn about Oscillators, LFO's EG's Filters etc, than it is to spend about £2000+ on this hardware setup deadmau5 has :P

@ContenTHC :) fair enough, i cant honestly say that out of all the hardware I have tried I have preferred them more than any of my favourite software synths and even then the software emulations are more that accurate enough for my uses (and if people are honest most peoples)...i guess the thing i would advise is not to buy the hype, hardware is wonderful for what it but to be fair software is a hell of a lot more competent these days than hardware and a ton more convenient....

@ContenTHC if you cant get a good sound from software hardware probably wont help because its not going to be any different. I cant actually name a modern analogue or digital synth that out does modern vsts....only matches them in terms of sound quality, of-course its subjective more than anything. But every A/B test i have ever done has proved that 99% of the time people cant even tell the difference.

@balderslash Oscillators Oscillate a wave shape.....there are different types but generally all they do is creat a repeated wave...the faster the repetitions the higher the pitch and the opposite for low pitches the sonic qualities can come from a number of different things but the fundamental practice is that if you stack harmonics you get different wave shapes. WIKI can answer this (Sawtooth_wave) theres a diagram explaining the transition between a sine (pure wave) and a saw ...

@balderslash .. the wave type he was using, if you can get different wave types using different maths equations...i think Square waves use every other harmonic in the series compared to saws which stack them linearly. lots of information out there but the principals are very straight forward.

Also you die a lot sooner than you would if you died of natural causes. My grandfather died of smoking... he slowly suffocated on his own fluids as they filled his lungs. No one can justify that way of dying as an okay way to die.
