It's now being said that intel doesn't want to share USB3 with any other chipset manufacturer with a intel chipset license or without one. This especially means bad things for nvidia's chipset business, especially considering the debarkle they are in about Nehalem chipsets.

However, people and companies do change their minds and next to that, as history as showed us, Compaq cloned the the IBM BIOS years ago. If you can't have it, clone it (especially in the case of USB3 lol).

never say enough to usb, i have 3 port on my vaio notebook, and i always use all of them at my campus, mean while i have 8 usb port on my pc, and i use almost all of them, my bluetooth dongle, printer, mouse, external harddrive, my pda connector, my wifi card. and only 2 left, i use them for my flash disks.

USB (universal serial bus) is a shared bus on the motherboard from the southbridge chipset for external devices. USB is self-powered and uses only 5 volts. USB 1.1 = 5Mbit/s, USB 2.0 full-speed = 12Mbit/s, USB 2.0 HiSpeed = 480Mbit/s, USB 3.0 = 4.6Gbit/s. Firewire 800 is way more than 2 times faster than USB. Just because USB runs at 480mb that is theoretical. It never reaches the maximum because it ponces off the system whereas FW has a dedicated controller. Firewire 400 is way faster than USB 2 even though USB 2 can theoretically reach 480mb. Firewire3200 (the next version) runs at 3200mb, whereas USB 3 runs at 4800, however I bet you whatever you like Firewire 3200 will totally smoke it. In fact I cant see USB 3 being faster than FW800 tbh.

USB 1.0 = mouse/keyboard/printer/toys/ev­erything

USB 2.0 = external drives/cameras/camcorders (2.0 works on 1.0 but slower yet tolerable and I don't mind, but prefer the fastest.

I would rather have a 30 port USB hub of 1.0, than to have a 4 port hub of USB 2.0. However, it is best to have at least 2 USB 2.0 connections, for an external drive(s) and/or external DVD burner(s).

Why USB? because USB extensions are cheap online and at dollar stores (6 foot usb 1.0 for $1 locally).
