I remember him regularly travelling from Northampton to fly with us at the Long Mynd in the 70's and 80's accompanied by his little black dog 'Lady'. He'd built a harness for her and she used to fly with him. Lady later died after jumping off a cliff when John was launching after he'd decided not to take her up that day. She didn't realise that she had to be clipped in to fly. Sad loss to John - and to us fellow fliers at the time....
John is probably one of the unsung heroes of hang gliding, always a renegade, always in trouble, also tainted with a touch of brilliance. I raise my glass to you John and toast all of your successes.
