You can buy the 2.0 litre 170 bhp common-rail diesel. Apparently it is quieter and runs smoothly being a much newer design of engine. You can also buy the low powered greenline diesel version and pay less tax. Recently I have seen a few light blue metallic ones which look quite good. They are an excellent car. Very much recommended in both Ireland and the UK. Look how highly it is rated in the UK main motoring magazines. It recently won more prizes.
who entitled this little p.r.i.c.k who never has dragged his foots out of his village somewhere in moors, say that its "slightly funny looking"? just to remaind you noob, skoda is one of the oldest car producers in the world.. and if there wasnt "your" i.diotic touch during ww2 we never fell under communist regime and these days you would not be dare to even think your words.. look at your car manufacturing, even without communism, and stiil f.ucked up.. whos funny now?
Because its a different market. Skoda is very much about economy, and because of that they focus on diesel engines, which are about as popular as bush in america. The petrol engines are underpowered to make the diesels more popular. They would lose a lot of money if they tried to sell any in the states.
Yeah, thats the V6, i think. However, considering that its just one model from the skoda range, the costs for selling it in the US would be horrendous. It makes sense in britain because there's a demand for all the various cars they make. In the states, the V6 would be the only thing people would want to buy, and it would bankrupt skoda to try and sell it in US. Even if there was a demand for the others, it would still be very risky to enter that market.
Well, its a start, but you have to consider the fact that not all gas stations have diesels... in fact, i struggled to find one in california. And it isn't exactly as refined as it is in Europe. So thats already a reason not to buy one. I think that eventually, diesels will catch on in the US, but it'll take some time, because only recently have US car makers started to REALLY focus on an economic drive. And even so, they're leaning more towards alternative fuels like hydrogen than diesel.
@desimunda116 Skoda, a big yes, great cars, the Yeti, Superb and Octavia would sell well there, with 1.8 TSi and 2.0 TSi petrol engines and the 170 CR Diesel, but Fiat and Alfa Romeo - absolute bottom of the pile, unreliable, poor qualty, poor results and feedback from owners surveys etc. Citroen - the DS3 and C5 are great looking cars, .Peugeot - only the 508 is a decent one, the rest are hideous.Renault - dodgy electrics, poor reliability and cheap trim. Pagani, ohhh yess!
@Azureecosse They are Taxi cabs, Polive cars and Ambulances - all for some very obvious reasons - Reliability, Quality and Refinement. So, because they are taxis and get dents thats a reason not to buy one then. How pathetic is that! Shame everyone doesnt avoid Corsas then as they are just driving school cars, and transit vans as they are just BT works vans. Diesel or petrol, the Superb is as its name suggests -SUPERB!
I actually think it looks good in black or dark grey. It is only fractionally longer than the Insignia and both the Insignia and the very good looking C5 Citroen saloon are both wider.
The 2.0 litre 170 common-rail diesel would be the best engine. It's very good on roadholding. Check out the whatcar video.
In the metal being driven, this car looks better than in the pictures. People tend to take pictures too close and from funny angles. Funnily enough it is quite a compact design despite it's amazing carrying capacity. Very comfortable car also.
Sorry what I meant to say is, in the metal out on the road it doesn't look rediculously over big and stretched as it looks a bit in some badly taken photos. It looks excellent in the right colour (I would prefer a darker colour).
The car looks great, except the rear end, which looks a bit ugly. They should change it a big. And the on the steering wheel skoda badge should be in the middle , not on top of the middle part, looks wierd.
JELH. I went and checked this car out at a local dealership. I am enormously impressed with it. I noticed that it actually looks best in the very dark red colour (like burgundy) and the beige Elegance interior looks lovely. I would get the new 2.0 litre 170 bhp common-rail diesel.

This really is an outstanding car. If you get the right colour scheme it looks fine. Either black or the dark burgundy red look good.

i looked online and there is a petrol version of this car with around 270hp which doesn't seem underpowered at all.

@desimunda116 believe me you dont want Skoda's in US they are Taxi cabs here in Scotland, and they usually sport big dents and Diesel engines.
