  • whats with all the dislikes, i hope its not because she is white? we should support and encourage other cultures who are interested in our culture regardless of the inappropriate vid titles

  • I read once that the British colonists took harmoniums everywhere because they were more portable than pianos (at least the small ones like this-- some harmoniums are the same size as an upright piano), and because they didn't go out of tune in the tropics like pianos did.

  • hindustani classical is based on 22 shrutis; so between 1 octave there are 22 units of measure that our ears can differentiate; we have 12 chords that make up for the 22 shrutis; the harmonium actually works on the principle of 24 semi-tones; if you sing with harmonium you are actually singing besura; this is the reason why many pundits shun harmonium

  • Thanks for posting this - you have a nice style of teaching!

  • This was invented by a Frenchman.

  • Guys, Lets Make a Rule. Don't respond to haters (DRTH)

    so next time just DRTH

  • wrong title

  • actually, the french. but, ok.

  • god she is wierd :S :P

  • That is one small harmonium... :(

  • the key to indian music is raag and taal

  • i am starting the pole shift survival group.

let me know if u r interested.

  • she dont even know about how to play harmonium.

she is telling that this instrument is easy to learn

let me tell you one thing that every instrument in this world is not easy to learn.

every instrument in this world need time & practice.

    i have learn harmonium,tabla,guitar&piano

    but most difficult was harmonium.

i have it in 4 years

  • @thindbugga you may think about brushing up you english as well.

  • brought by the British? I tell you these white people...have a certain air of arrogance and stupidity to them.

  • @yogit628 Yes, they really do.

  • @yogit628

No need to be defensive. It was brought from the West, probably by the British. It has undergone some changes in India, but it was not 'invented' here. Having said that, it certainly is an 'Indian' instrument. I'm glad that our music takes influences from different sources and accomodates different kinds of instruments.

  • Where can I get such a small harmonium like that? Anybody know of a seller?

  • i am starting the pole shift survival group.

let me know if u r interested.

  • nope harmonium is the key instrument cuz this is the only instrument dat need not me tuned all the time and every big music director composes their tunes on harmonium only

  • the key in hindustani music is only one instrument: T-A-B-L-A

  • tabla is one of them, so is the harmonium

anup jalota, ghulam ali, jagjit singh, and even bollywood singers like sonu nigam use the harmonium

  • you say harmonium is key in hindhustani Vocal music, I would suggest the voice is.

  • I had always read that it was British missionaries who brought the instrument to India. However, they brought French instruments. Madame didn't say that the first harmoniums in India were British!

  • twas the french who introduced the harmonium

  • Hermoso!! quiero uno!!

  • wella you need to respect that tradition alive in which it has been kept... you cant teach indian classical music on u tube it need devotion and respect on that very basic tradition we known as guru shishya parampara and please dont attach music with class creed race or religion

  • yeah but still indian and pakistani

  • certainly indian and pakistani

    also certainly not hindu

maybe chocfreak meant region, and not system

    but indian /= hindu

    just as american /= christian

i guess one could argue for surrender to a mystic unity that runs deep in hinduism, and any number of systems including sufism and sikhism etc, in terms of the heart of hindustani music. but again not strictly *hindu*. or something. i'm waffling. apologies.

  • He boss I am going to have to rebut you on this one (I am hindu as well). There are so many great non-hindu classical musicians. A prime example is the best classical vocalist of out time Ustad Rashid Khan.

  • what!!! please madam dont try and teach something about which u have not read and have any idea about.. its like saying.. the bass guitar came from the aliens !!!

  • im sorry but dont teach shit you dont know, thats all i gotta say

  • I wonder why so many people leave messages about this lady not playing the instrument the right way. By the way, she said that it was a"little keyboard you just play" Im sorry but anyone can dress in Indian clothing and give their interpretation of what they think about the instrument. She didnt look ike she knew what she what talking about.. Many white americans who get into indian stuff are funny because theyre so out of place, they need to find their true calling somewhere else!

  • @gnawaserge so you are saying white americans should not be able to enjoy playing a harmonium or to enjoy hindu music or indian clothing, because we look out of place? who the hell are you? and everyone says that we are a racist people. you my friend sound quite racist to me. I love indian music and i play the harmonium excellently, and trust me I never felt out of place. I am a white American man that probably knows more then you about the harmonium and Indian music. true calling?? ha

  • The comments made here are rude and brash. I know Amelia for a long time, all she wants to do is share her knowledge. There is nothing wrong with that. To the people who made these posts, if you did as much riyaaz as you do bashing people, then maybe you would be somewhere today.

  • yeah, i don't know why everyone picked her to lash out on, i find her very personable.

  • WOW I REALY WANTED 2 KNOW THAT

  • HAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH DU HAST DICH KOMPLETT VERLOREN !! YOU LOST COMPLETLY !!! BROUGHT BY THE BRITISH ? Please stop lying ! AND NO i am NOT AND INDIAN who wants to DEFEND the MUSIC but u should really shame.

  • It was actually the French who introduced the Harmonium to the Indians who adopted it, made it their own and changed the setting and sound of it.

  • Portugese I think, i thought it was french people but i was corrected by someone who researched it :)

  • Hey I am full Indian

  • LOL PRETTY JOKES u shud just quit no offence u went from 1 side of the harmoniom to the other i bet u can play it.... and a white person playing it i new u guys wud fail at it xD TY

  • Sorry to say but you have to tune a Harmonium, by the way did you learn this on your own or did you have an USTAD, unless you have been thought by an ustad, the right way, you should not be trying to teach it to people. It takes years and years to become a ustad so keep practicing.

  • i rarely see a white person who can play our music and make it sounds good...that's the worlds smallest harmonium

  • 0 stars... stop uploading videos...

  • Sorry to say but, couldn't resist to point out something.1- it does need tuning, you really don't want to play it when its not tuned.2-The harmonium was invented in Paris in 1842 by Alexandre Debain. just by wearing indian dress or Saari, you can't just pretend to know eveything. lol

  • i dont no whats shez playing on but thats no harmonium unless its for really tiny small people on mars, and that wasnt a lesson on the art of hindustani vocals rubbish video, absoulte waste of my bludy time im going to see a video about chopping onions.

  • greatttttttttt thanks alot

  • She looks to me is wife of Sarod legend Ustad Ali Akbar Khan.

  • She's not British dude.

  • pretty small but its fun to play
