Some people (many Latinos, understandably) reacted to this song by saying that it was along the lines of racist---portraying Mexicans/Latinos as lazy. (According to documentary 'Fever: The Music of Peggy Lee'). Peggy may have been trying to have fun but this song would not have gone over well in these times. Can you imagine the backslash with the Internet?
