  • So why is there no video for this if this is the actual version?

  • The original sound track was amazing. They said they ended it the way they did because it was told from Judas viewpoint...interesting..

  • One of the best voices on the whole album, so sad to see all the lame clown versions in the movies and shows :(

  • I kind of enjoy both versions. the "fat slob" in the movie portrays the gluttony and hedonism very well.

  • Mike d'Abo is infamous. With d'Abo fronting, Manfred Mann enjoyed numerous hits, the Dylan-penned number one hit, "Mighty Quinn."

check him out singing the song on another video of Manfred Mann "Mighty Quinn."

    and compare the vocals!!!

  • @MichaelHansenFUN How is Mike d'Abo "infamous"? That word - "infamous" - means famous for all the wrong reasons; that is, "having an extremely bad reputation." Hitler and Charles Manson and Caligula are infamous. Mike d'Abo (the father of actress Olivia d'Abo of "The Wonder Years") is simply "famous."

  • @BadRaspberriesFinger you are right, wrong use of the world, but he isnt as famous as mick jagger, he is kinda like Nicky Hopkins, Peter Grant, Ian Stewart, and because people heard his name here and there but he isnt as well known as some others like BillWyman, John PAul Jones, ect...

  • great song

  • Cha cha cha chaaaa....

  • when i saw the movie and saw this scene i almost crapped my pants

this song is amazing though, love that bass line

  • I think both versions are good. This version is more... sung, then the one in the movie. This guy is showin' off his pipes. The guy in the movie is doing more acting, and funny line delivery. Both of them are good. I think this guy is probably funkier, though.

  • Check out RicBNH's King Herod's Song 1973!

  • He was in Manfred Mann. Of COURSE it's awesome.

  • I'm God, and I like it. So be nice.

  • I've heard all the name calling before. So don't waste your time ranting and spewing

    stupidity!

  • So this is what music sounded like 2,000 years ago.

  • @colourfulwithaU They had tubas in Jerusalem?

  • @knightflyte

Clearly, my comment was a joke. -______-

  • @colourfulwithaU LOL. Mine too. ;o)

  • yes this is the best version, the singer is clearly having a blast singing this. So are the listeners.

  • Can someone please tell me the notes, or where i can get hold of the notes for the solo at 1:26?! I figured it out roughly up to 1:33, but i can't figure out the notes from 1:33 to 1:37 at all!

Please could someone help me :D it is really annoying me!

Btw, the solo im talking about is similar to the one in the original film, if that helps at all :)

    Thanks :D

  • I agree,not even close!!!!!

  • Yes,you are defintely a Catholic.I can tell by your twisted way of thinking about God's word. You need to become a Christian not a Catholic.

  • @vrghiks Catholics are Christians. There is no "Christian religion", everything is a sect.

  • @vrghiks OH SHUT THE FUCK UP,NUB!

  • @ThePaddyjoejr1

See what I mean, the filthy tongue is a dead give away to ones true spirituality.

  • @vrghiks What are YOU? A Dopey Atheist! You will Burn In HELL!

  • @ThePaddyjoejr1 That's alright... we atheists won't be able to get near to the fire for all the christians...

  • casey anthony must be die

  • @Bigalwannabe That's not the way it works in the U.S.A.

  • I'm saying that Alice Cooper's version tops this one. I know, I know, purist flak ahead captain! Cooper's voice has a much more lived-in feel to it. More character imo.

  • Yes,a false prophet when it comes to denying the word of God.

By the way,the moon does give off light.Reflected light, but never the less,it is still light.

  • Comment removed

  • Very well said, because that's what God says! I believe His word is TRUTH!!!

  • If you love blasphemy against God,you'll love this kind of garbage.

  • @vrghiks Good, I LOVE blasphemy!

  • @metalxmomma No surprise here,all anti-christs love it!!

  • @vrghiks So anyone who doesn't believe in your god is inherently evil... Typical.

  • @vrghiks

You're an idiot, and your god is imaginary. : )

Also, if you knew the whole musical, you'd know that this is not blasphemy at all. All this song demonstrates is that people in Jesus' time were skeptical of him. Context, context, context.

  • @colourfulwithaU Imaginary gods can't predict the future,my God does. It's written in His word, the bible!

  • @vrghiks

The Bible made vague and obvious prophesies which came true, as the vaguest of prophesies always do.

The Bible also asserted that the moon gives off light. Which it really doesn't. How do you explain that?

I predict that you're going to disagree with what I just typed. Am I a prophet?

  • @colourfulwithaU Your attack on God's word isn't vague!

  • @vrghiks Oh yes, because clearly, God's word is completely true. He tells us that he, the Great Beardy Sky-God, created Heaven, Earth and everything that possesses a brain-cell, in 6 days...

I come from a Christian household, btw.

  • @YsoSRS14 That doesn't mean you're one.

  • @vrghiks Bapised, reconciled, taken eucharist and confirmed into the Catholic Church...

    Yep, I'm definitely a Christian.

The Bible is not meant to be taken entirely literally. The Old Testament is essentially just a handbook of how to survive in the Middle East, with a few stories and history lessons thrown in. The New Testament and the Gospels are just biographies of Jesus, coloured by the perceptions and memories of man. The messages in the Bible are important, not the man who said them.

  • Undoubtedly the overall best version of this song.

  • The BEST version Nibbles. Mike d'Abo is great. Is he still around?

  • The 1970 album....the ONLY one. The others seem lame. Gillan as JC, Mike d'Abo as Herod, Murray Head as Judas, Yvonne Elliman as Mary. Bring it on.

  • Cool tuba at 2:06!

  • The guy in the 1973 movie looks sounds terrible. They all do. 1970 rocks!

  • Vocally this is the best rendition of the song. But I loved the theatrics in the movie version. Too bad they weren't able to get Mike D'Abo back for the movie, that would have been perfect.

  • @lbigbilbo I got the whole 1970 and I love it...I agree that Mike d'Abo got a voice a lot better than the actor who played Herode...but in general I don't agree with people who think performers of 1970 album were better than actors of the movie. For istance, I think that Barry Dennen was an amazin Pilate, and Ted Neeley was as good as Gillan and gave an amazin performance as an actor...

  • @Zeusdattilo Barry Dennen also plays Pilate on this album.

  • @UnlimitedTime Great singer. I think his performance in the movie is a little bit more dramatic.

  • Not only one of the great rock operas of the 70's it's also one the great albums of the same decade.

  • this guys voice nails this song perfect.cant get any better than this.

  • How do you do what he does at 1:54? That is sick.

  • I think the movie version is a bit too sissy(spelling?) but this version is awesome. He's so smug and confident. That's acting while singing...

  • Agreed. The theatrical soundtrack is far superior to the film soundtrack; not only on King Herod's song, but every song.

  • Im in a play (jesus christ super star) and this is the best song

  • Im in a play (jesus chrsit super star) and this is the best song!!!

  • best of the best

  • This is a terrific song. Same with the rest of the album- All of these song's rock my socks!

  • The best version absolutely!

  • Yay! I love this whole album. Not just because I'm a very faithful Christian, but I like the sound of the music. (Only the 1970 version)

  • This person has a good voice, but its not the tone that the song is meant to be sung in to make sense. It should be more cynical like in original.

  • @StopFear This is actually the original. It's from the 1970 Concept Recording. I like this one the best. It's not as hammy as other versions. He just sings it straight and lets the lyrics speak for themselves.

  • @StopFear This IS the original version from the 1970 album.

  • wonderful!

  • Awesome. :)

  • I think I'm going to cry because this is awesome! His voice is almost angelic...

  • I've been trying to find this all goddamn day, why do all the other versions have to suck so bad.

  • Josh Mostel did a great job acting and dancing, playing the flamboyant and silly Herod in the movie. But, this version by Mike d'Abo is the best. What an amazing voice.

  • "Get out of my Life!" LOL

  • This version is so much better than the one by that fat slob in the movie.

  • NOTHING beats the album version. PERIOD!!!

  • the thing about this version is that you cannot find a weak singer the same cannot be said for all other versions though the 1996 version with Steve balsamo ( had the pleasure of seeing it in London for my birthday) does run it close

  • The very best!

  • Definitely the best version.

  • @thehuffmeister1 hmm dont think so it needs more emotions

  • @HitokageProduction Judas is better in the 70's film.

  • @Xdestroyer6 of course he is :D

  • as far as I'm concerned, this is the best version

  • @NibblesThePig I searched for this song and heard two other versions and yes I agree this is by far the best

  • @NibblesThePig Agreed...
