@B5starfurry - Dude... "speech", "episode"... and a second "speech". Please tell me English is a second language for you. If not, I weep for our future if this is the education being received.
Don't forget the "Battle of the line" speech by earth President. The writing, the acting, and the sheer scale of the story arc, puts this on a par with Tolstoy's War and Peace. What makes this a powerful piece of modern fiction entertainment is that it does what ALL great works of fiction have done before. That is "when things are at their very worst, as a species we are at our very best". The speech was truly Churchillian in its intensity.
They are the only kind of people who deserve to die poor and ignorant. And when we do finally outlive our stay on Earth and enter the outer reaches of space do you really think that the superpowers are going to ignore that kind of investment, no way. However come sooner or later like G'kar said- Though it take thousand years, there is no greater power in the universe than the need for freedom...and we will ALL be free
Who the hell are Earth to decide for the rest of the galaxy, no wonder other races (and there are others) want nothing to do with us, Because the governments are selfish greedy elitists. They care only about money and power (which is obv but still) always trying to inflict their rule over everything with an iron grip. Who are they to care how many casualties there are as long as they make their green red or blue. A neccesary evil as they would probably say. Well they're dead wrong!!
Unless we change our ways, in the future colonists in outer space wil face off against a central earth authority. The scenerio is depicted as the backdrop of Firefly, Gundam, and in Star Wars. The scenarios vary, but always radical elements exploit situations for their own benefit on either or both sides.
@ITR0LLU26 I agree with Finn and also how do you know? What if we discover an interstellar drive tomorrow? And yes, I'm absolutely replying to a 2 year old comment because I can.
The key point of contention remains the conflict of interests between the central government or groups controlling it vs outsiders or not so powerful part of the universe. By the way, Star Wars's Clone Wars give rise to the Empire. There are only accidental personal connections between the Rebellion and the Old Republic. The New Republic tries to avoid the mistakes of the Old one precisely for the reason of preventing history from repeating itself. They have Peace with the New Empire too.
The show, over all, was about how man kind had to make chooices and live with results...good or bad.
I really enjoied the show it had such a rich background with a lot of possablities of telling smaller stories about the charters and situations of the back stories.
I'm so glad Bruce B. got to be on this show, he really ran with the football and delivered! Not bagging on any other actors, loved them all, (Mike O'Hare too) but seeing Boxleitner get the stuff he did and knock it out of the park constantly was just a sheer joy.
These are the speaches Obama needs to make and doesn't because he to is 1%

Although I have to ask free to do what. I note that most often when people call for freedom it is from other people's existence or their own freedom.

Isn't star wars about a group trying to remove a dictatorship and restore the legal democratic government.
And in Firefly ALL the planets involved are colonies, its just the rich more well off colonies oppressing the poor not well off colonies.

You know, people don't give Boxleitner enough credit as an actor. He can really bring it!

I think he is good, but sometimes he takes a crap project. But then we all need to pay the bills but he is underrated.

Not enough speaches... more mr sheridan moooreee!!! *****.
rantamaki 4 years ago 2
A LOT. Not sure exactly. B5 is famous for its speeches like this.
Sheridan was not the only character to make these speeches. Characters like Ivanova and Delenn have also made a few speeches.
fisnationstate 4 years ago 7
Oh yes, who can forget Delenn's two awesome speeches in Severed Dreams.
