I think the most unfair part of this whole competition was the Host country's audience being so hacked off and booing everyone because Miss Mexico did not make it to the top 10. And how did Venezuela make it to the Top 10, yet alone the Top 3 with that ugly evening gown!!!
@nikgr73 I've often wondered the same thing as far as why some of the judges disliked Brazil so much. I mean she was beautiful, had a brain, spoke elegantly. I'm not saying I would have given her the crown, as I thought Australia and Colombia were stronger, but she should have at least made the cut ot the 6 semis. Daniels didn't like the US, and Alonzo didn't like Puerto Rico (both score wise), so not sure if it's a question of just those 2 judges

One of the most elegant pageants in Miss Universe history; however, the way (Mex.) crowd Booed (USA) was just awful. When (Mex.) competes in the USA location, she is treated with upmost respect from the American crowd. But, it happened again in '07!! The world has it's people of different cultures, and opinions. El más estupido es -mvgc-, pues eres un ignorante en materia de certamenes de belleza. Todo el panel de jueces emite un puntaje para cada Semifinalista. Pero luego el puntaje más alto y el más bajo se eliminan, y el resto se promedia.
You will see the name of Beacham on the screan. She make the question to Miss Colombia but the personne who put this video cut the questions and the answers and only put the score of the answer.
The scores made absolutely no sense the entire night!
How does Brazil (who won preliminary evening gown) score so low? She used the exact same gown and styling during the presentation show, which can be seen on youtube! How does Spain (who won preliminary swimsuit) score so low there?
I love that the suspense of it all made this pageant so exciting to watch but something was definitely up with the judges that night.
Hi dxartes, actually, the final night judges were the same judges used during the preliminaries. This is how Miss Universe, Miss USA and Miss Teen USA worked in the 80s and 90s. That's why it makes no sense to me. How can the same judges score someone so high during the prelims and then score them so low during the final night when the standard was kept at the same level? Mind boggling! But it did add to the suspense.
i just dont get it...what's wrong with Alonso and Daniels? they were so against miss Brazil that night and tried to eliminate her throughout the semifinals by giving her constantly ridiculously low scores...so unfair...
Miss USA was booed in Mexico in 1993 and 2007 because of politics. Mexico and the USA has always been in this love-hate relationship for centuries... I was there at the National Auditorium last night. People were just upset Mexico didn't make it to the semi-finalist and they showed their frustration with Miss USA. You can not see it, but the place was half empty before the event was over. They had to fake the ovations from the audience, because nobody wanted to applaud them.

Miss Finland wore the wrong gown that it made her look like a fish. She was too fair-skinned to have chosen white; she should've gone for the deeply rich dark colors like midnight blue and burgundy to emphasize her fine Nordic beauty. Miss Venezuela wore a gown too flashy, and a color too loud, to be considered elegant. Beautiful, but neither polished nor refined, unless looked upon more closely. A body-fitting design with a long train would have been very flattering and far better for her.
Miss USA's gown was too fancy for Kenya to wear. The delicate aura of the gown pole-positioned with her rather strong personality, in the same way that yellow contrasted with her dark skin. The shoulder line made her look look fat and wide. Miss Brazil was completely elegant, classic, neat, albeit simple. She was the other front-runner during this segment of the pageant. She always reminded me of a young Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy with her beauty. She looked pristine, comfortable and angelic.
Miss Czech Republic's gown was 2-3 years late for the fashions of that day - too outmoded then. It looked like something borrowed from a candidate during Miss Universe 1991. Although I must admit that black was her color because of her magnolia skin. Miss Puerto Rico's white gown was a safe choice for her. Simply de rigueur but neither elegant nor sophisticated, but rather drab. This was almost completely reproduced "in toto" and worn by her compatriot during the 1995 Miss Universe pageant.
Miss India's gown was beautiful. However, Namrata failed to give it justice with her stiffness. She looked sick and very thin, with the gown pulling her down through an appearance of heaviness. Miss Spain's gown was rather too avante garde during that time - something too fancy due to the fad. She obviously chose the wrong gown to wear here. She should've chosen a dark-colored one in prune or royal blue in order to emphasize her fairness, or red to highlight her best brunette features.
Miss Colombia's gown was very elegant and classic. It was not surprising that she garnered the highest score here. Superb silver beadwork on top emphasised by a solid column of black velvet for the skirt gave her the advantages of height and slenderness. Miss Australia's gown followed the Colombian color scheme, but shouldn't have had the ugly polka-dots to go with the silver and crystal beadwork of her neck and shoulder lines. Otherwise, she wore a gown that was nearly identical to Paula's.

Brasil posee varias de esas cualidades pero no a tal grado. El vestido de España tiene su glamour pero en nada se asemeja.
Sin embargo, el disparate mas grande es crear una comparacion entre una formidable estrella del cine y alguien de la talla de Dayanara Torres. Nunca en la vida hubieras visto a Grace Kelly lucir un modelito tan convencional y mostrarse tan insipida e ingenua en publico.
La verdad que Milka se destaco en la entrevistas, se lucio en traje de bano.. pero ese vestido para nada la ayudo,, si bien saco un alto puntaje aqui.. en la ronda de las 3 finalista al momento de decidir el jurado penso mejor las cosas y premio la elegancia de la Puerto Riquena.

¡Totalmente de acuerdo! El vestido que utilizó nuestra representante no la favoreció pero para nada. Aquí hasta llegaron a decir que parecía una piñata. Bien por Paula Andrea, se la comió con ese vestido bellísimo, el año siguiente (puntuación record) y el 2008 se confirmaría que en Colombia saben como favorecer a sus candidatas con vestidos maravillosos.

Miss Colombia was unbelievable. I like Miss AUstrailia too. India, no, I don't like her gown. Spain, don't like the gown too much either. i think this was a good top ten overall but i have to say the ones that stood out for me are as follows 1. miss colombia she had a beautiful gown and she wore it in platforms!! 2. puerto rico was classic in her gown 3. brazil i think she wore the gown it didnt wear her she looked lovely and finally miss usa although when i watched this pageant back in 93 i didnt care for her gown i think i was a good look for her

As a matter of fact Cuevas complained about that...he said he gave scores to all of them and for some reason they did not show up on screen. He said that something weird happen after MU 1993 was crowned...he did not go to the reception that was offered to the winner because of that.

Miss Philippines should have won Miss Universe in 1985, 1987, 1989, 1990, 1993, 1994, 1997, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008. Unfortunately all the filipinos Misses were robbed due to biased judging.

One of the most elegant pageants in Miss Universe history; however, the way (Mex.) crowd Booed (USA) was just awful. When (Mex.) competes in the USA location, she is treated with upmost respect from the American crowd. But, it happened again in '07!! The world has it's people of different cultures, and opinions. Miss Universe is to bring that all together to celebrate their uniqueness. The USA has won twice since '93, Mex. hasn't won since the beautiful Lupita '91. Good luck mex, and USA 2010

How does Brazil (who won preliminary evening gown) score so low? She used the exact same gown and styling during the presentation show, which can be seen on youtube! How does Spain (who won preliminary swimsuit) score so low there?
I love that the suspense of it all made this pageant so exciting to watch but something was definitely up with the judges that night.

Hi Aiden... it's because the Preliminary judges are different from the Coronation Night jusges. They might have different tastes.
But I agree, Brazil and Spain ruled this top 10. =)

Hi dxartes, actually, the final night judges were the same judges used during the preliminaries. This is how Miss Universe, Miss USA and Miss Teen USA worked in the 80s and 90s. That's why it makes no sense to me. How can the same judges score someone so high during the prelims and then score them so low during the final night when the standard was kept at the same level? Mind boggling! But it did add to the suspense.

Miss USA was booed in Mexico in 1993 and 2007 because of politics. Mexico and the USA has always been in this love-hate relationship for centuries... I was there at the National Auditorium last night. People were just upset Mexico didn't make it to the semi-finalist and they showed their frustration with Miss USA. You can not see it, but the place was half empty before the event was over. They had to fake the ovations from the audience, because nobody wanted to applaud them.

Miss Finland wore the wrong gown that it made her look like a fish. She was too fair-skinned to have chosen white; she should've gone for the deeply rich dark colors like midnight blue and burgundy to emphasize her fine Nordic beauty. Miss Venezuela wore a gown too flashy, and a color too loud, to be considered elegant. Beautiful, but neither polished nor refined, unless looked upon more closely. A body-fitting design with a long train would have been very flattering and far better for her.

Miss USA's gown was too fancy for Kenya to wear. The delicate aura of the gown pole-positioned with her rather strong personality, in the same way that yellow contrasted with her dark skin. The shoulder line made her look look fat and wide. Miss Brazil was completely elegant, classic, neat, albeit simple. She was the other front-runner during this segment of the pageant. She always reminded me of a young Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy with her beauty. She looked pristine, comfortable and angelic.

Miss Czech Republic's gown was 2-3 years late for the fashions of that day - too outmoded then. It looked like something borrowed from a candidate during Miss Universe 1991. Although I must admit that black was her color because of her magnolia skin. Miss Puerto Rico's white gown was a safe choice for her. Simply de rigueur but neither elegant nor sophisticated, but rather drab. This was almost completely reproduced "in toto" and worn by her compatriot during the 1995 Miss Universe pageant.

Miss India's gown was beautiful. However, Namrata failed to give it justice with her stiffness. She looked sick and very thin, with the gown pulling her down through an appearance of heaviness. Miss Spain's gown was rather too avante garde during that time - something too fancy due to the fad. She obviously chose the wrong gown to wear here. She should've chosen a dark-colored one in prune or royal blue in order to emphasize her fairness, or red to highlight her best brunette features.

Miss Colombia's gown was very elegant and classic. It was not surprising that she garnered the highest score here. Superb silver beadwork on top emphasised by a solid column of black velvet for the skirt gave her the advantages of height and slenderness. Miss Australia's gown followed the Colombian color scheme, but shouldn't have had the ugly polka-dots to go with the silver and crystal beadwork of her neck and shoulder lines. Otherwise, she wore a gown that was nearly identical to Paula's.

A Grace Kelly, que en paz descanse, dale su lugar. Era una mujer bella, guapa y muy sofisticada.
Brasil posee varias de esas cualidades pero no a tal grado. El vestido de España tiene su glamour pero en nada se asemeja.
Sin embargo, el disparate mas grande es crear una comparacion entre una formidable estrella del cine y alguien de la talla de Dayanara Torres. Nunca en la vida hubieras visto a Grace Kelly lucir un modelito tan convencional y mostrarse tan insipida e ingenua en publico.

¡Totalmente de acuerdo! El vestido que utilizó nuestra representante no la favoreció pero para nada. Aquí hasta llegaron a decir que parecía una piñata. Bien por Paula Andrea, se la comió con ese vestido bellísimo, el año siguiente (puntuación record) y el 2008 se confirmaría que en Colombia saben como favorecer a sus candidatas con vestidos maravillosos.

I think the Mexican people who booed Miss USA were very disrespectful and did a very poor job of showing graciousness and hospitality. Clearly they took out their frustration at Mexico not making the finals out on USA. Very, very, unacceptable behavior!! Shame on Mexico!

jajajaajajaj lupita jones a la unica latina que le dio puntaje bajo fue a Venezuela y aun asi Venezuela en traje de gala obtuvo el puntaje altisimoooooooo. En este Evening Gown competition hubo espectaculares mujeres, the score debio quedar asi:
1- MISS USA. con ese traje amarillo muy pero muy hermosa
2-Puerto Rico: aunque se que no le corresponde la corona aqui me gusto verla
3-Colombia: simplemente ESPECTACULAR!
4-Check Rep.- muy hermosa

i think this was a good top ten overall but i have to say the ones that stood out for me are as follows 1. miss colombia she had a beautiful gown and she wore it in platforms!! 2. puerto rico was classic in her gown 3. brazil i think she wore the gown it didnt wear her she looked lovely and finally miss usa although when i watched this pageant back in 93 i didnt care for her gown i think i was a good look for her

Puerto Rico: 8.25 transmits absolutely nothing in a conventional white dress that is similar to her skin tone.
USA: 8.75 does nothing with her regal presence
Brazil: 9.70 unequivocally elegant & majestic!
Finland: 7.50 no vibrance...dismal presence
Venezuela: 9.90 absolutely resplendent and captivating...the most poise and elegance.
FYI: These women should be evaluated on elegance and their capacity to enthrall...they are not fashion designers.

As a matter of fact Cuevas complained about that...he said he gave scores to all of them and for some reason they did not show up on screen. He said that something weird happen after MU 1993 was crowned...he did not go to the reception that was offered to the winner because of that.

i agree w/ u that oxana, natalie et. al. are some of d most beautiful miss universe ever & i also strongly agree that d philippine reps in d yrs mentioned are not at par w/ d winners in those yrs. but to say that "people from the philippines are dwarfs" is totally uncalled for. HOW CAN U BE SUCH AN IGNORANT RACIST? i am of filipino heritage, i am proud of it & i am also a living testimony that filipinos are not dwarfs b'coz i am 5 feet & 11 inches tall. i have seen many Miss Philipines, yes some are beautiful...
i could only give my opinion about the latest miss universe, since i didnt watch the older versions.
However, Oxana Fedorova (miss Universe-later dethrowned-2002), Jennifer Hawkins (Miss Universe 2004), Natalie Glebova (Miss Universe 2005), Dayana Mendoza (miss Universe 2008) they were in everysingle way the best...
ask anyone, they'll tell u those were the most beautiful miss universe in a long time, and by far deserved their crown

its ok to want ur home country to win... but what is fair is fair and that statement of urs that philipines were robbed in all those years i deffinitelly not true...
and yes I HAVE seen the latest miss philipines and im absolutelly sure i still disagree, as a matter of fact most people not just here but around the world disagree with u as well...

i am of filipino heritage & i am proud of it but i strongly disagree w/ what u said. i wld love to see a filipina win d MU crown but i want them to be deserving of it. miriam deserved it in '99 & nina ricci in 2000 but since then, i have yet to see a filipina rep worthy of d crown. Zorayda Andam over Denise Quinones in '01, Karen Agustin over Oxana Fedorova in '02, Gionna Cabrera over Natalie Glebova on '05, Lia Ramos over Zuleyka Rivera in '06 etc.? U MUST BE OUT OF UR MIND. be realistic dear.

ive seena ll the videos of Miss Universe and World, i have dvd copies of Miss Universe from 1969 to present... im refering to Lara Dutta.... she has the brains, but beauty? shes not that beautiful, infact she doesnt belong to the prettiest Miss Universe, I think Nina alagao is prettier and sexier than Lara Dutta.
