Thats the Sooraj Indian model that get 86km/lt which is damn good. That'd be interesting. That means you'd have to shorten the primary chain. Better than taking the whole primary setup off and changing the GB sprocket. I'm guessing you've a 19t GB sprocket on now? I've a 17t and stock primary gearing and am getting 150 sometimes less on the hwy with touring gear at 45mph. Do you think its more efficient for the engine to be geared high to be run at lower rpms or the opposite? Thanks
@danielborkowski Hi Dan. Originally I had a 19 GB sprocket with standard primary ratio, giving 61.5 mph @ 3600. It would see up to 57 mph on the level by gps, but comfortable cruising speed was about 45. Mpg averaged 145. I dropped the primary to a 22T, giving a 12% reduction to 54.2 mph @ 3600. (same as your 17T setup) This now gives 150 mpg at the same speeds as the former, & 162 mpg @ 40 mph by gps. No loss of top speed on the level compared to the 19, & cruising speed is higher.
@danielborkowski Will next fit a 20t primary, bringing it down to 50 mph @ 3660 by gps. The 22t setup is still fractionally overgeared as a strong headwind can knock it back a couple of mph. Engine is only 8.5 bhp continuous after all. About 6.5 - 7 bhp @ the rear wheel. In my view, the engine should not have to resort to overload fuelling on the level to attain full engine / road speed. If the engine can hit full rated speed easily, it will be more fuel efficient regardless of the higher revs.
Now, just hook up a adapter to fit a removable belt for an electrical generator to charge a bank of 12V batteries for the house......ELECTRIC POWER! :-)
@danielborkowski Hi Dan. 86 km/l is 244 mpg (imperial). Impressive! I'm contemplating dropping the gearing on my 406 yanclone down to 50 mph @ 3600 by dropping the primary sprocket to a 20T (19T final). This will enable the engine to cruise easily @ 50 without ever requiring overload fuelling conditions from the governor except for significant hills. Hoping to see 160 mpg plus at full speed. (cross fingers!) John.
@chamath1985 Go to PricePart Motorcycles on Google, where you can order one to be built for you with the smaller 418 cc Yanmar clone diesel engine, for £3650. Tests have given up to 180 mpg.
@chamath1985 Almost no chance on the Peugeot I'm afraid, it was almost certainly a one off by an enthusiastic amateur. PricePart is in the UK by the way. You could also look up Jochen Sommer in Germany, who builds the bike in this video. They are more expensive however, because of the 462 cc Hatz diesel, which alone retails at £2000. The Enfield Sommer bike is 7500 Euros, or about £6300.
I just ordered a diesel Enfield from PricePart Motorcycles myself 3 weeks ago! _ Good luck my friend!

With bikes it seems there is a VERY wide variety of desire and alot of idiots too. The wonderful aesthetic of a Bulltet with a diesel is not something many can understand. I have a 350 and when my lovely engine goes (in years from now) I will put in a Diesel and it will go on forever. Many just dont get this and its pointless trying to explain it to the many tossarses who dont/cant

I think diesel biking is the way forward. Unfortunately a big problem for a non biker wanting to to start diesel biking in the UK is the power is so low for the engine size despite the incredible fuel economy. The UK government restricts bikes by engine size as well as power based on petrol performance for learner bikes so anyone wanting to run on veggie-oil isn't playing on a level field. I've set up a petition about it if anyone's interested - see the link on my profile!
it must be really really i mean really cheap to run :)

Diesels are just so much more efficient than Otto cycle engines, especially in those smaller displacements. I mean, what does that get, 85-100 mpg?
ExUSSailor 1 year ago
@ExUSSailor Diesels are awesome, this Sommer Diesel gets 94-118mpg US according to Sommer website
danielborkowski 1 year ago
@ExUSSailor In India, factory built diesel bullets were bult for some time. 200 km/l i think . Not sure what it is in mpg
Shriekshack 1 year ago
@Shriekshack I believe that would be around 120 mpg. Not 100% sure of my math, though. Either way, it's a whole lot of efficient!
ExUSSailor 1 year ago
@ExUSSailor I think that they hold the distinction of being the most fuel efficient production motorcycle and possibly even vehicle ever.
Shriekshack 1 year ago
@Shriekshack
not possible for 200km/l (472mpg US) unless fairing mods done.
The early 1980s Sooraj 325 Enfield was claimed doing 86km/l (203mpg US).
Most Enfield 325 Taurus' do 70km/l (165mpg US)
But yes a Diesel powered Enfield is one of the most efficient vehicles today

@ExUSSailor The 462 Hatz / Enfield achieves between 109 mpg - 131 mpg (US) or 118 - 142 mpg per imperial gallon.
