While Israel did have a notable comeback in the war and crossed into Africa, they still didn't kick the Egyptians out of the first 8 miles of Sinai. Plus, Israel lost EVERY SINGLE BATTLE they fought in the African part of Egypt (Suez, Ismailia, etc.)

@ofek111 i must correct ur comment.. Soviet pilots helped in the War of Attrition, but did absolutely nothing in the Yom Kippur War.. The Egyptians did not intend to take all of Sinai, but just the 1st 8 miles or so, which is exactly what they did. While Israel did have a notable comeback in the war and crossed into Africa, they still didn't kick the Egyptians out of the first 8 miles of Sinai. Plus, Israel lost EVERY SINGLE BATTLE they fought in the African part of Egypt (Suez, Ismailia, etc.)

If Egypt won the war in 1973, then why does Israel still exist? Surely, Egypt would have gone all the way to Jerusalem if it had defeated the Israelis so greatly. But let's say Egypt never wanted to destroy Israel and they just wanted to gain back the Sinai desert (which they had lost to Israel in in 1967) Why did Israel still have control of the desert after 1973 if Egypt won? Why was Sinai part of the peace negotiations in 1978?

I just wonder why Egypt begged for cease fire and why Egypt could not win the war or find the Israeli border.

Egypt didnt loose the war. Israel didnt win the war.
In 6 Oct. 73 Egypt did take and control of the Chanal. and they did hold the line until the Israel's tank army attacked on point & go to the other side. creating a hole in the egyptian army BUT they couldnt go on. the 2nd & 3rd army formed a full circule on the Israel's army. and was willing to die.

2,656 dead, 7,251 wounded, 25 guns lost, 109 aircraft, and 294 POW exactly

no less than 54 anti air missile batteries, 279 aircraft 8,273 POW
and about 1000 tanks, 11,300 killed and 25,000 wounded.
Prisoner Of War numbers were given by the Red Cross.
and you think that Yaguri's captivity makes Egypt the winner.

When the 1973 war ended on 26/10 Israel had more land west of Suez Canal than the Egyptians had on the east.
So between 06/10 and 26/10 Israel gained land and Egypt lost land.
The status on 26/10/1973 was:
Egyptians forces in the canal area were exposed to Israeli air strikes unlike the air superior Israelis.
30,000 Egyptian troops were encircled with no access to drinking water.
Egypt begged desperately for a cease fire while Israel wanted to continue the fight.
So who won that war ?
