  • good kata

  • For those of you emailing me with your versions of reality.. and teaching me a history lesson on Karate Please Note that I linked my comment to the video of Chōshin Chibana IS THE FOUNDER OF Shorin ryu. NO BENT WRIST!

  • @fightingthebs we dont bend our wrsists in kishaba juku shorin ryu either.

  • @geekie404 Please…..I myself having worked with two 10th dans from Okinawa and countless other high ranking Okinawa. masters in the shuri-te influenced arts, who have direct training with personal students of Anko Itosu who ..do not use this bent wrist. Additionally I have over 35 years of personal experience with bunkai in/from the naihanchi series (no not the “bunkai” you see here on Youtube)

  • @geekie404 To finish this “discussion” please watch the videos of Chōshin Chibana youtubecom/watch?v=mkSr5-iM-BI and Gichin Funakoshi Tekki Shodan (youtubecom/watch?v=YNrslr9LWIw both direct students of Ankō Itosu. Please note.. NO BENT WRIST

  • (sigh) isn't it wonderful seeing a "7th dan" no knowing enough to keep his wrist straight.... fricken amazing..

  • Esse kata aw ta muito fraco

    nam gostei

    =(

    sou mas o meu

  • Kata da faixa branca no estilo Shorin Ryu, muito bom, me lembra os velhos tempos que fazia Karatê

  • To the ego police. You are judging him, he is not judging you. Belts have limited meaning, mainly helpful within one's one dojo or kai for communication teacher to student and student to teacher. There is no universal belt standard. To me the true measure of your kata is if you have achieved knowledge, intelligence and wisdom of it in battle application. This is hard to measure viewing solo form but he does appear to have life in his kata.

  • wise words. I think the universal standard for black belt is many years of training and a mastery of the basics.

  • You are correct, but I still have my opinion that this kata looked robotic, and very uninspired by bunkai.

  • @MuskokaLad my whole ryu is based off ,what you diidnt see =)

Kata did it's job....it's like zen...you have to do it...to understand it.

after that, there's nothing to talk about =)

  • Very badly.

  • I personally don't like this version no hip motion stances, to high, doesn't use proper chambers( notice when he does the backfist,low/outer block and uppercut he only use's one hand no chamber

  • shorin ryu karate is meant to have high stances. i study the original matsumura version of shorin ryu. this is a different version of shorin ryu, there are slight differences between the versions. so dont be so quick to judge

  • I like this kata even though my style that i study (isshinryu karate) changed it up a little i still like it =D

  • looks like naihanchi shodan and nidan combined

  • I study shorin ryu my self.. And it looks pretty good but maybe slightly to slow !

  • This Naihanchi is ok, but I dont like how he bends the wrists at 0:20 and 0:38. He does this by over tensing the flexor carpi radialis and under-tensing the forearm extensor, resulting in an imbalance of the amount of bending at the wrist. Also, I dont like how these so called "masters" wear red and white belts - another display of big egos. Someone who has practised karate for a long time should have no ego, not an inflated ego.

  • Yes, if you would punch someone like that, you sure would injure your wrist. Assuming that the application is a hook punch (kagi zuki), off course.

Furthermore, I have encountered lots of ego's in karate and I usually try to ignore them.

  • What is a flexor carpi radialis?

  • @Jakneife A muscle in your forearm, helps flex the wrist and is involved in radial deviation.

  • @meegatrony then why articulate the movement of the fist in a contradiction to the radial deviation?

  • Get to know Rogerio, fight him, dude....then write us something.

You know nothing about a true leader neither about the meaning of belts or you would never write such idiotic shit. He practises karate(& btw kobudo) for that amount of time and has the skills, so he deserves a red/white belt and therefore uses it. Or a Ph.D should not put his/her degree in his resumee or any related ?

Instead of criticising, go practise and get the true philosophy of karate.

  • Karate-do(a MMA in its origin: Okinawa Te+Tang Te,plus other influences)was not intended as sport. The "test" is a real fight,no rules, no rounds, no nothing. All the rest is speculation. The best Karateka have never worried about championships.Out on the streets, to take an opponent to the ground is unwise, more so with others around. In sport fights, practitioners leave the testicles, the eyes and other vital areas totally unprotected. Try holding a guy while your testicles are squeezed.

  • all too rigid and forced, he does not flow, he just stomps his feet, throws a punch and yells, if karate was good it would be dominant in the current mma and martial competitions but it is not, even Bruce Lee dissed karate.

  • The preformance looks good, but still I prefer the Shotokan version: Tekki Shodan. In the kata Tekki Shodan you can put more power in the technique.

  • That depends on the karateka, not the kata.

  • Very wise spoken.

  • guy looks like a robot. he needs to losen up a bit

  • but why is the wrist bend?

  • I don't practise this style, but techniques look clean. The peace and calmth of the kata is also very good. I like it.

  • Looks good!!

  • Your doing it all wong.

    just kidding!!

  • the best i have seen is bushido productions seminar dvd pressure point street fighting with naihanchi!!!

  • I prefer the shito ryu one.

  • Actually those Okinawan guys are pretty tough. But MMA (sport and non-sport [meaning street no rules whatsoever]) has really shown us what it takes to be a good and complete fighter. The classical forms have benefits for early development and also are an option as you age.

  • Actually Krav Maga has shown us that you don't want to go to the ground in a real situation; but, BJJ/MMA is a demanding sport that helps make good competitors.

  • :) :) :) :) :)
