  • i thought so. i've been a quiet kid for my entire life and only now am i starting to open up. and i wanna sing but its really hard to when you've been quiet all your life, especially at home, and you suddenly tell your parents you wanna sing. its not that they don't approve, its just an awkward transition that i'm still trying to overcome :x

  • what do you mean "you people"?!

  • I have a fairly simple question, which has probably been THE most asked question, though. Is it possible to extend the vocal range? Im not talking about blending chest and head voice, im talking about extending the range of only the chest or head voice. Or does it come down to strengthening and blending? Im attempting to sing Metal like Scar Symmetry (Christian Älvestam) btw.

Would really appreciate an answer. Keep up the good work!

  • @DarkFottloch yep, a vocal coach told me your voice keeps getting a higher and lower pitch until 35-40 years old.. depending on how well you take care of it (cigarettes, alcohol, do the opposite)

  • well nature vs. nurture haha..

  • i imitate things on television all the time..just because it's funny. when i was in second grade or whatever young age, i sang alicia key's "if i ain't go you" one time, and my brother said i sucked at singing at the "...diamond ring..." verse.... i grew more and more embarrassed of singing, and i was naturally a quiet person, so whenever i talk now, my voice is very low for a girl and it's not very clear/often it sounds like mumbling. i think that might be another reason.

  • however, i've been listening to music all my life starting with r&b, and then rap, pop, and even songs in other languages. frankly, i want to sing, but i've been embarrassed all my life..that is, until now. i figured i can make use of my low voice. :D

  • culture. Lead singer for journey..both of them haha, similar culture. weird

  • i love that little E :D

  • @guitarspring When you say your songs were at an advanced level, are you talking like Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata level?

  • @guitarspring Your naturally a faggot

  • i was once a gifted singer lol im serious now i have probs hitting high notes cuz my voice got deeper :(

  • @rabalac99 Same here :P

  • @Ypnovatis good im not alone

  • By Definitition; I am a 'gifted' singer, Due to the fact that I have been playing music with bands and what not for 7 or so years, The only problem I have is my voice is so different that it's hard for me to get a clean sound rather than a nasaly one. I can do scales and what not simply and I have a decent range, Just have a nasaly voice. Can someone give me some tips or something?

  • @ChadMaltoMusic the bad news is that you will always have certain % of nasality when you sing, if your voice is always nasal. You can reduce it, with vocalizes, readjusting your vowels a=ah, e=eh. however you need a vocal teacher:P The vowels if rounded help your projection of the sound/voice in proper places... in the mask and not the nose. They modify the shape of the vocal tract and guide the sound to it`s proper place if well supported by breath control!

  • jesse looks like an older version of joe jonas with this hair haha.

  • "Wow dats to much" haha

  • i love the way it ends midsentence

  • Anyone can imitate, but that dosen't mean they're good. He's talking about spot on, perfect, without prior training or instruction. This is nothing short of a gift and interesting to see

  • like this if you've rewinded it at the beginning just to see the "e" on "Youtube" sing lol!!

  • Everyone is gifted, i believe everyone can sing you just have to find it, some will need training, some won't, sorry i dont believe in non-gift people need to find it ans stop being lazy and stop listening to what people say, just do your thing. Your a bad influence.

  • @kimopple It's not necessarily a thing of laziness, if someone grows up in an environment, for instance, that is not conducive to developing inner or outer abilities then it can significantly impact a person's confidence in themselves or their inclination to give themselves 'permission' to attempt these things in the end, having been taught to chastise themselves much earlier. As we grow we can learn and reflect upon these things and choose to forge our own paths, but it certainly has an impact.

  • @kimopple i bet ur a non-gifted,lol!! a gifted singer a.k.a me would never post this comment :) oh i am lathan reingtree newlt signed artist with columbia records my fan pag eis up but its not complete but it will eb active by end of november and my album comes out next may :)

  • hey jessey can you explain why a person can sing and why sometimes they cannot

  • Jessie i have a question when you say gifted are you referring to someone possessing more raw talent out of the gate or just someone who is able to learn at a faster rate than the average person? Also if you are considered gifted you are also implying that they are drilling there voice everyday just like a "Non-Gifted" singer. :)

  • I guess this makes me a sorta kinda semi-gifted singer! lol

  • @singsational411 got a same situation over here. lmao

  • when i watch those singingsuccess videos, i kinda get how to sing properly.. but then i go and listen to axl rose and i just can't define what techniques he uses and i'm lost again..

  • @crysisgamer81 cause he doesn't use any technique, he's just gifted

  • @chojinkid that's true, but he's got the same two vocal chords as we have. so he must use an instinctive technique, anyway.. and i'm sure it's not like he hasn't looked up any vocal instructions over the years. -> he's been in a children's choir when he was young.

  • How can i make my voice smoother and fuller if all i have is a nasal sound? I'm a beginning male singer. I sing from my diaphragm and can hit all the notes on key (to a chromatic tuner), but how do i change the dynamics of my voice?

Any suggested vids or tips would be greatly appreciated.

  • You know what i really want to know, if women can sing easier than men, i think they can....

  • @Emceetem That's a big generalisation. Every individual is different and it's about practice and using what you have. There are great male and female singers. It's just about practice not your gender.

  • @sweetbutdaring Just saying an opinion. I think with practice anyone can sing good, I just want to know if it's easier for women since their voices are naturally higher.

  • @Emceetem its actually proven that guys (lower voices) can have a bigger range than women because its easier to learn to reach higher notes than lower notes.

  • @Jennifaber ...intersting, but how come i've never heard anyone sing high like minie rip or mariah careh?

Only person i can think off is, matt bellamy and freddie mercury and they dont sing that high...

  • @Emceetem women can sing higher but not neccessarily have the bigger RANGE. is what i meant.

  • @Jennifaber Interesting... i wonder, can you sing well?, i sing like a retard monkey cat with rabies that's being strangled.

Some of these lessons help, but i still sound all nasally and just overall unpleasant... any lesson vids would be appreciated.

  • omg peter parker sings and has an awesome voice? now NY has a web slinging tip giving singing spider man X)

  • Like your hair long bro.

  • Interested in Part III

  • this sucks....I was very quiet and rarely ever talked, let alone sing. and now that im 17 i want to learn but i guess it will probably never be possible...

  • @andyvonhallow No way man. Save up some money and go to Nashville and work with these guys. It's not too late. I promise you. Type in "singing success testimonials" into google, click on the page, and check out the testimonial by Eddie Gilbert. You'll be blown away.

  • @stefanisgood thanks for the tip! :)

  • @andyvonhallow you shouldnt tell yourself that.... anything is possible!

  • @CuteAsCanBe143 thanks! And I do hope so

  • @andyvonhallow It's never too late. As long as you can breathe, you can sing. Practice.

  • @sweetbutdaring thanks, I will.

  • Jessie I understand that the enviroment and the family who shuts you up the moment you make a sound might influence your voice and compromise the volume along with your personality once you've grown, but what really justifies the poor range? and the "bad voice"? I see many non singers who already have easy high notes and a very pleasant rounded singin voice, unlike them my voice is pointed, heavy and choked even in my tessitura, no matter how many lessons I took, singing to me is painful

  • I think this is all true. Talent is related to the way you were raised.

    (sort of off topic)

But no matter how good a singer is, if someone's gonna try to be big, i think being an artist is more important. Like adding flair to songs and changing things up. Or creating your own songs that are catchy and just make people relate and feel good. There are thousands of phenomenal singers out there, and yet people like ke$ha are famous.

Seems like songs are more important than skills of singers.

  • @jimmyeatworldorelse that still means you need talent for certain genres, anybody could sing, but not anybody could sing everything

  • @jimmyeatworldorelse more like looks are more important and sexual appeal nowadays because half the songs aren't even that great either anymore.

  • I've always been even too loud when I speak, even now I have trouble speaking with a low volume, they keep quite me down cause it seems I have lot of resonance, yet I sound bad while singing, ugly voice, poor range, hard middle high notes

  • your a little prick "jesse"

  • Music is the priority of my family and my friends. And my life.

  • wow, awesome, insightful.

  • what is the difference (if there is one) between being a shy singer and a non-gifted singer?

  • @MsLadyt91 - a shy singer can have tremendous talent but its just shy because of fear or social/cultural tnedencies. A non-gifted singer can be very outgoing and not shy but lack the tools and skills necessary to be a great singer.

  • omg.. that is so me.. family no let me sing..

  • i am so lucky to have been surrounded by music all my life <3

  • I'm like in-between. lol

  • interesting discussion. i think that 3mins cant sum it up tho.

  • you can have skype lessons now. thats so cool..specially as im english

  • Jesse, your hair looks so much better like this! :-)

  • People say I speak softly. And I just discovered how to sing loud w power. Never in my life have I ever yelled cuz I grew up in a home where yelling always meant bad stuff and i guess i grew up with a "fear" of yelling. And now i can sing with power and be loud but I sound ehhhh... pretty bad.... but i just realized that whenever I sing, I can be soft and I can still sound really good - its easier for me cuz I dont need power, my voice is clear when I sing and thats good enough :P

  • we asians always sing karaoke :3

no matter if we tone deaf :DD

  • @MeNinjah2 Really? I didn't know that. There are a LOT of talented asian child singers. Esp in the Philippines.

  • @sweetbutdaring

i'm not saying that no one in Asia cant sing XD

im just saying that even if we are tone deaf, we still sing karaoke. :]

Im aware that theres a lot of talented singers in asia.

  • @MeNinjah2 63 asians watched this video so far ;)

  • my whole life, i've been told to be quiet. So when i started singing, i had to sing when everyone went to sleep, so i had to be quiet. and when i moved to my father's house, he always told me that i couldn't sing, i was not a singer, even to this day. i told him i wanted a record deal, and he said, "you could get a deal writing, as long as you keep your mouth shut." so no, i was never encouraged to make noise, which is probably why i can't sing loud and sound good. i seriously need a coach.

  • find elsewhere to blame. Playing the blame game will only hold you back. Thinking negative, over-analyising leads a halt to your development. Take it all little steps at a time. Some of the best artist to ever exist came from the hardest upbringings and stuggles in life. Devoted urself to your art and put urself in an envirornment where you can do so. Then make steps, goals, to get where you want to goal. Learn and live.

  • I totally agree. I was the only girl in my house out of 9 boys and they always made fun of me for doing girly things. So I've grown up to be a but of a tomboy, which is totally cool, but singing was one of those "girly" traits. And so I always sang no louder than a whisper for like 10 years.. But now I'm in choir and I'm starting to get a louder voice. But I've always grown up with music. :)

    Thanks, Jesse

  • From a young age, my family didn't encourage singing or even being loud because they "had" to pay attention to my siblings, so when I tried being loud or to even sing low I was told to shut up& be quiet- i'm listening to your siblings, so now on my own I do kareoke or enter local contests to become better at singing. Don't let anyone regardless of who they are silence you. :)

  • @MsSuperShay omg same here lol..

  • @jesslovexoxo Keep doing your thing =)

  • i completely agree with the environmental factor because I was one of those kids with no musical influences as a child; music was just not important to my family. At the age of 21, I decided to do something about it and take singing lessons and broadcasting myself on youtube to show that it's never too late.

  • I think everyone can sing, not anyone can be great, but any one can learn to sing.

The ear techinque is realy important for faster results, but if u don't have it in early age it don't mean u can't sing...

If u start listen more music, from classic to rock you'll get better and better every day.

I was something like this, but i have musical parents too. Anyone can sing, don't stop trying and practising Good look :)

    SING A LOT !!!

  • I grew up in a family where singing was encouraged. Usually the women did all the singing as the men listened. I was neither encouraged or discouraged. When I was in my early adulthood for about 18 years I was in a relationship in which my partner discouraged my singing. Now 11 years after that time I am singing. Am I gifted? Well I love to sing, it is in my soul.

  • Cuando en español?

compre el curso en español y me ayudaria tener estos cvideos de ayuda tambien en español

  • I made my niece do the monkey sounds, she does them perfectly...if i keep make her doing it will be she be a gifted singer later?

  • @1nspirator that too, but also open her music horizons if I may say so, encourage her to listen to all genres of music, anything from Doris Day, Ella Fitzgerald to current artists. She will definitely tell you what she likes from there.

  • @1nspirator I don't think so...I think she's just going to be good with monkey noises. Maybe you should teach her the notes "do re mi fa so la ti do". Or get her to watch music related movies/shows? A little bit more musicy, but you can also teach her other sounds of animals or if she's under 7 years old you should get her a singing toy. I had this frog that sang these 5 songs like itsy bitsy spider song and the twinkle little star song. I sang along to my toy, so singing toys help too. :)

  • @1nspirator HAHAHAHAHAHAAH

  • I've never had the chance to say this... First xD No but really :) i highly appreciate your videos ;)

  • I'm raised in a family were I feel really embarrassed to sing when someone's hearing me. When I think about it its really stupid but I only sing when I'm alone and when someone comes home I stop immediately. I play guitar and piano and music is everything to me but everyone else in my family don't respect my musicality at all. Almost never heard encouraging words.

I really hope I would have started singing when I was much younger. Now the progress is just so slow.

  • @TheMikkiX yeah, same here, but don't let that stop you. I started when I was 18 in August and it's been a little over a year now (now I'm 19) and I notice the huge progress I made in my voice. Watch all the singing success videos (old ones too if you haven't), listen to tons of great music, genres and styles, practice when you get the chance, and you'll get somewhere.

  • @RGMusician thanks for advice =) I won't stop. I'm going to practice no matter what. When you really love something it doesn't matter if your good at it or not. What matters is that you enjoy it!

  • @TheMikkiX Very True! I did take a look at your videos and I say you're really good at the piano and guitar.

  • @RGMusician thanks a lot! nice to hear that.
