  • Reading some of these comments I just cannot believe that people have not heard of R Dean Taylor. One of the greatest songwriters to grace not only the Motown label but the whole music industry. How can one person have hits in so many different gendres, motown, country and western, northern soul. This man deserves his place in the hall of fame.

  • one of my favorites of all time, when you get on the dance floor the emotions take over, thank you R DEAN

  • I wish this would have charted - I could tell that Holland and Dozier had something to do with this tune, its got their touch written all over it-

  • A real motown classic, remember this was on the b side of Ghost in my House when issued in the 70's on the Tamla Motown label, I ended up playing this more than 'Ghost'

  • Same Here - now play it loud in my new Jag XF

  • Your video will doubtless jog the memories of many people to search for more classics such as these.

  • The lady singing almost in a duet is Sally Furman from Rick Robin and Him.

This version is the 45 version, eg TMG 896B, the version on The Essential Collection is a stereo version with additional Andante vocals

  • Story has it that the legendary "Andantes" were recording for themselves in another studio that day and were later dragged in to do the backing vocals on this Motown diamond.

  • and Frankie Valli

  • Frankie was the first white man to sign for veejay records, but he did not sign for motown till 69-70

  • "We all have lives to live of our own

But we can't seem to leave others alone

People on the go in this mighty nation

You wouldn't think there'd be time for discrimination."

Thanks for those wise words R.Dean!

  • R Dean Taylor was indeed the first white artist to sing on the motown label, superb sounds reminds me of the late 60s early 70s and still being played now KTF

  • Reminds me of a weekend in Scarborough long time ago!! thanx

  • the only white motown singer

  • wrong, what about kiki Dee, chris clark, and loads more

  • Yes indeed, R Dean Taylor would write many a track behind the scenes at Motown, and Kiki was British. I've got a nice picture of Chris Clark on my video too, some of the Funk Brothers were white too, I loved them all long ago in the 1960's, Motown was always in the charts, nostalgic times. JOHN

  • I wonder if R.Dean was the first white motown singer? Or the first or only Canadian motown singer?

    Anyone know?

  • and Frankie Valli

  • there was something special about him .... on that score.. i think he was the 1st white singer

  • Takes me back to the Northern soul days in Wigan. Wonderful all nighters.

  • Thanks a lot for this lost classic!

  • my favorite nornern soul track

  • Legend has it that The Andantes performed the backing vocals on this truly amazing track
