Reading some of these comments I just cannot believe that people have not heard of R Dean Taylor. One of the greatest songwriters to grace not only the Motown label but the whole music industry. How can one person have hits in so many different gendres, motown, country and western, northern soul. This man deserves his place in the hall of fame.
A real motown classic, remember this was on the b side of Ghost in my House when issued in the 70's on the Tamla Motown label, I ended up playing this more than 'Ghost'
Story has it that the legendary "Andantes" were recording for themselves in another studio that day and were later dragged in to do the backing vocals on this Motown diamond.
R Dean Taylor was indeed the first white artist to sing on the motown label, superb sounds reminds me of the late 60s early 70s and still being played now KTF
Yes indeed, R Dean Taylor would write many a track behind the scenes at Motown, and Kiki was British. I've got a nice picture of Chris Clark on my video too, some of the Funk Brothers were white too, I loved them all long ago in the 1960's, Motown was always in the charts, nostalgic times. JOHN

The lady singing almost in a duet is Sally Furman from Rick Robin and Him.
This version is the 45 version, eg TMG 896B, the version on The Essential Collection is a stereo version with additional Andante vocals

"We all have lives to live of our own
But we can't seem to leave others alone
People on the go in this mighty nation
You wouldn't think there'd be time for discrimination."
Thanks for those wise words R.Dean!

I wonder if R.Dean was the first white motown singer? Or the first or only Canadian motown singer?
Anyone know?
