  • My camera/VCR all-in-one does 4:3 (400 kilopixels) and 16:9 (530 kilopixels).

One kilopixel is 1'000 pixels, i.e. 1/1000 of a megapixel.

  • What is the aspect ratio of those old 70's kung fu movies?,(usually the intro and ending). The angle seems streeeetched vertically.

  • not sure but its porlly because of the international filming back then

  • I think it's 2.35:1 and its called "Shawscope".

  • ah the shaw bros

  • A wide-angle lens on a 4:3 would help some, maybe?

I like the illustration, though. Nicely done!

Ummm - are we supposed to be working on a script soon? now? yesterday?

    HUGS!

  • Hey Jazz, PappyStu never stands on his hats... It's so wrong.

  • LOL yea but his hats have horns or made of cow or crocodile some kind of wild life... my hats are much less low class lol

  • Good point on the hats, if you pardon pun.

What settings do you use when rendering in Sony Vegas? Your videos look much crisper than mine.

  • I render at 640-480 none interlaced best quality and 5mbs I believe.. what ever is the highest setting with out going to 720-480

  • Thanks Jazz, you're rendering at a much higher rate than I've tried. I'll have to try it, it looks a lot cleaner.

  • not a problem

  • Very informative. I thought something must be different between the two ratios.

  • I didnt even want to mention the academy ratio that 1 85 but maybe in the future because I use it along with my 16:9 green screen videos ie my phantom series. I am glad that people are learning from this video. I prolly should have put it under education

  • We can never get enough education.

  • agreed, didnt someone just sub to you?

  • Yes, and I believe I just subbed back. Thanks!

  • Pretty much in all of my videos,

    I prefer a 4:3 ratio aspect. It

is required. What's the best of

quality you can get out of ratio

    aspect? Do you know?

  • well I cannt really tell the difference between my 300 dollar camcorder and my 4000 on this video can you? so the main difference is try to save your video file in 640-480

  • thanks, wide screen is the way to go

  • I totally agree with you not saying that I wont go back to 4:3 but it has to be special for me to do that

  • thanks for sharing, very interesting:)

  • thanks I was wondering if this was going to be boring but the nice comments I am getting makes me happy :)

  • A peep sight works better than a post sight because of the human eye's tendency to find center...

For colabs if all parties don't use the same format it is a nightmare for the editor/producer...

  • I know pappy I know, but this wasnt in regards to that but you can imagine how much I lost on each side of that video but more importantly I wanted to explain why I use it

  • I was tickled to watch but should I say that publically he he he

  • lmao arent I talking to you on yahoo...

  • Firstly, are you losing weight or is that an effect of the aspect ratio thing?

Secondly, it is ironic that you posted this because I was only discussing 'widescreen' with my dad yesterday and trying to explain what the point of the black bars was.

Thirdly, maybe I should get a video camera so it can sit in a cupboard along with my weights.

    Fourthly, thanks for posting this.

  • I tried to send you a message since I havent heard from you in awhile. I am trying to lose a few pounds by eating better thats all. thank you

  • wow, i had no idea that I was missed. There I was thinking I was one of those faceless profiles that nobody ever notices lol.

  • well you're certainly a name I recognise, you'd be surprised how you get used to certain people commenting and it's soon noticed when they disappear (even for a short while) - of course you are in no way obligated to watch and comment on every video posted by the person you subscribe to, there just aren't enough hours in the day

  • how ironic... I wake up to find I have two replies to my comments. I look at the 21stCC video I commented and discover JazzyLemmon has replied. Then I look at the JazzyLemmon video, and the reply is by 21stCC.

Oh, the odd things that my brain seems to notice!!

  • LOL well thats simple it looks like you have sent nice comments to us and we appreciate it when you do make time to watch

  • agreed

  • I found this video instruction to be very fascinating. Thank yuo.

  • thank you very kindly... I have been thinking of this video for awhile now and didnt know how to present it.. I guess I did a good job since there are a lot of nice comments

  • Very good hints/tips video, looked good on fullscreen

  • thanks Tom I hope all is well.

  • Wow that's a huge difference! Nice vid twin :)

  • you are very welcomed twin

  • Wicked! That made perfect sense. Is it bad that I have children and no video camera? I have a billion stills!!

  • well funny you should mention stills they are 4:3

  • LOL...thank you Mr. Wizard! Now ... if I could film in panorama..... :-D

  • LMAO only if you still shoot film?

  • I do! well, sometimes. Is that sick or what? I have a darkroom too!! (old bat)

  • that is kinda of cool in a retro kind of way

  • retro??? You mean no one else but me and gert are still using film???!!! *shoulder sag* I am so old.

  • lol sorry

  • Oh Jazzy...

I just know I hate watching TV at my dad's house. He has a super large wide screen and he insists on using the mode that fills the whole screen even when it should be 4:3. That makes everything distorted, especially near the edges. Nothing better than looking at women get increasingly pudgy the nearer the to the edge that they get. Ha ha!

  • yea but if you research more about 16:9 its better quality and the 4:3 was invented with TV back in the day it was invented.. thanks for sharing and I hear you on watching wide screen when it should be 4:3 but HQ is the bottom line

  • also are you calling me pudgy? I have been watching what I eat

  • First, I didn't notice, but... If anyone did think such a terrible thing it might be because of a light colored baggy sweat jacket. =D

  • LMAO hahahaha all I say is FU n

  • Yeah, that all-Ramen diet is really working wonders, isn't it? LOL!

  • lol thats my poor diet... actually I am trying to eat a more balanced diet and try to stay with in the recommended 2,000 calorie a day

  • thank you!!! for explaining this, I never understood aspect ratio. I do understand I will only buy wide screen dvds because that's the way the movie is supposed to look, didn't know the technical aspect of it all.

Yes!!!! Yes!!! damn it I rated this with 5 stars! Damn you for making me feel guilty for giving you 5 stars.

  • I appreciate that I was able to explain this with out posting the wikipedia definition :) sorry for the 5 I shouldnt allow ratings

  • LOL, my reasoning for 5 stars for this video:

    1. it was informative and educational

    2. it had visual aids

    3. it showed off your camera nicely

    4. it will make us appreciate your filmmaking more.

    5. it was kind of you to take the time to explain.

    There 5!

  • ah shucks you made me turn red

  • Bet with that fair skin you turn a really brilliant red, too *grin*

  • HEY I am just an albino nothing to compare LOL

  • Good job explaining things to the Youtubers out there! And FIRST. TeamFUn for life!

  • LOL FU.......n
