the triangle guy, i was won over by the triangle guy. every band needs one, noone wants one, but they should. gary was ahead of his time on this, even now he is probably ahead of the times.
God this is crap. I came here because it was connected with a Studio 54 mix. How on Earth did anyone take this seriously? It is childish like Mary Had A Little Lamb.
@RayL1983 Don't make fun. I still have that triangle. That actually is pretty funny shit. My kids crack up looking at this. I think I am embarrassed seeing myself. I wish I still kept the same weight as in 1979
The guy on the Xylophone..WTF? lol I remember watching AB on saturdays and thinking to myself "I don't hear an acoustic guitar anywhere in this song?!"
this song bring back so many good memories. being young in the late 70's was heaven. no gangs or guns in the club just young ppl gettin their boogie on.

Just listen 2 those screams ...particularly at 2:38.....when us the last time u heard people FEEL the music like that??? I was only 9 here, but I LOVED the music!!!
At high school dances, the kids would literally yell and scream at the opening notes to this song! Then we'd RUN out to the dancefloor...EVERYONE wanted to dance to this thing!!!
I saw this show when it originaly aired on american bandstand. this song was one of those monster hit disco songs. came out at the peak of the disco explosion.
another influence, this is a bad version but I gotta let it go, the guy in the Beard is Eric Matthews, the funny part is he is playing every instrument you hear, a Genius when it came to production, cept he did not want any one to know him, this song was 1 of those gems of the early 80's
I saw Garys gang do this live at al ittle club called Butterflies in the Bronx in 79. My friends dad owned the joint we were only in 5th grade thought we were so cool! Great memories
If you feel as I do then give me a shout out. Why in the hell did they say disco died because on any given night at a good club with the disco sound and lights we'll be shaking our boodies all across the floor and no body but us could dance all night from one song to the next and I mean 12 inch singles about 50 in a roll, damn right I was a disco lady and I shook it up and down and then all around. and a lots of fat girls was in the disco sweatin and shit lol.
We guess to say that there was a "conspiracy" behind the hypnotic vertigo-like rumor about "disco being dead". The people of those days got caught up in the financial decision (by the Corporates) to introduce NEW franchising music. The majors are falsely practicing god-like works on earth, so surely they have the power to tear down to build up again! I believe this may have been the case with disco music. MJ's Off The Wall had signs of what was to come ... along with the NYC street "hip hop"
this video is excellent, i have no doubt that these were probably the coolest people on the earth at that particular time, a claim i will most likely never be able to make, however..........with the glorious benefit of hindsight we can all have a good fucking laugh, except the woman at 0.06 seconds who sounds as if she's being disembowled.
i will be dancing to this funky music for a long time, i want this played at my funeral as i'm being lowered into the burner at the crematorium....etc..etc
I just bought this a few days ago. I bought this double cd ot their greatest hits. It includes the 12'' version of this song. Great disco dancing song.

What a wonderful song this is,oh the memories! That whole sound, you just know it was like 1979 all over! I was only 4years old at the time, but such was the quality of songs back then i can remember dancin me lil tush off to it in my garden when mum was playing it on the old wireless :) it was a top 10 hit here in the UK btw, number 8 it hit im sure.
Well, they hit #41 on the Billboard Hot 100 with this song & hit #1 on the Hot Dance Music chart, so they're not that obscure. However, the mainstream media never talks about them, so I guess that makes them pretty obscure.

This song was released on a small obscure label in 1978. It was picked up by Columbia records and did not become a blowout hit till 1979. However it did get airplay in 1978
I haven't heard this in years. I don't know anything about this particular group. I also thought that they were black( not that race matters where great music is concerned)and they reminded me of of the British group Heatwave. Thank you so much for providing us 40 somethings with a bit of nostalgia. Don't the years just go so quickly?
I was youtubing something for my job and came across this. Man, I've tears in my eyes remembering how much fun the 70's were. Was in 12th grade in 1979 and that was the best year for disco music. We would dance all night, then go to school after, literally. Be at a party until 6 am, the make it to school by 8 am. Where did all that energy go? But I must say, don't regret one minute of it and would relive it the same way.
Bob. I would have to say that Joe Tucci was the band leader and sole creator of the Garys Gang Album. You as a performing band member were an assett to the group, but Tucci was the true talent.
You are 100% correct. I was lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time. It was Joe along with Gary that conceived the and executed the whole idea. When Joe and Gary elected not to tour with the band to promote Gary's Gang I was left basically in control of the band on the road and to make sure we got to the places we were suppose to be. 1979 was a very fun year. It's almost 30 years ago but it seems like yesterday
I can't believe it was 30 years ago. It really went to fast and that whole disco era was a blast. You were such a big part of making disco history. I guess once Gary and Joe stopped touring you were the bandleader...Great memories.
i appologize, #37 pop is top 40, however, this record did not reach #37 pop, where are u getting your facts from? they are incorrct, my info is from "top 40 hits, from 1955-present" its every record that ever charted on billboards pop top 40 chart.and garys gang is not listed anywhere in the top 40 chart.
according to joel whitburn publisher of "billboards top 40 hits" from 1955 to present, published in 1992, any record that reached a position of 40 or higher, is noted in this book, many records stalled at 41, just missing the top 40 position, Garys gang is NOT listed anywhere in this book, therefore garys gang did not have a top 40 hit with "keep on dancin". im not making this up.
no it didnt lucite53, i have the book in front of me, it did not make top 40, it may have made the hot 100, but it DID NOT make top 40. yes it was #1 on the dance chart in jan of 79
I did a search it came in at #41 on the top 100. However Casey Casem who only did top 40 on his show put the song at #37 on the hot 100. Somewhere someone made any error.
i know at rave's there is always the whistle guy.

I guess once Gary and Joe stopped touring you were the bandleader...Great memories.

lucite53 3 years ago

#37 on Billboard's National Top 40
#11 on Billboard's National R & B Chart
#1 on Billboard's National Dance Chart
These are the facts
lucite53 3 years ago
thats correct, but #37 pop is not top 40. thats a fact.
discoguy79 3 years ago
i appologize, #37 pop is top 40, however, this record did not reach #37 pop, where are u getting your facts from? they are incorrct, my info is from "top 40 hits, from 1955-present" its every record that ever charted on billboards pop top 40 chart.and garys gang is not listed anywhere in the top 40 chart.
discoguy79 3 years ago
"Keep On Dancin'" was on America's Top 40 with Casey Casem -- He only went by Billboards Chart. I have to research this myself...
lucite53 3 years ago
it may have been "cashbox", that was a magazine like billboard, some records charted higher in cashbox magazine than in billboard
discoguy79 3 years ago
according to joel whitburn publisher of "billboards top 40 hits" from 1955 to present, published in 1992, any record that reached a position of 40 or higher, is noted in this book, many records stalled at 41, just missing the top 40 position, Garys gang is NOT listed anywhere in this book, therefore garys gang did not have a top 40 hit with "keep on dancin". im not making this up.
discoguy79 3 years ago
no it didnt lucite53, i have the book in front of me, it did not make top 40, it may have made the hot 100, but it DID NOT make top 40. yes it was #1 on the dance chart in jan of 79
discoguy79 3 years ago
I did a search it came in at #41 on the top 100. However Casey Casem who only did top 40 on his show put the song at #37 on the hot 100. Somewhere someone made any error.
