it tried to bite because they are hand fed he was thinking he had food on the way but was mistaken because hes a salamander which is not as conscious as a human
my tiger salamander is always very sluggish and never chases his food. i think the issue is that the aquarium i sin my basement which is usually 5-10 degrees colder than my house. i feed him 5-10 crickets every 2 weeks.
can u use loose dirt as a sub strait for a salamander and can i feed it trout worms?and how often do i feed them,i heard u can feed them every other day
Quick question I have two tiger salamanders and they have just layed eggs I have carefully taken them out and put them in a seperate cage with all water would it be fine if I put a bamboo plant in the the adult salamanders water dish would it be ok would it be fine for the salamanders?
I don't think Tiger salamanders spend the majority of the time in the water. I have had my tiger salamander for over 6 years and he spends most of his time underground. I use ecobedding and it is basically dirt that comes in a block. Any ways tigers are mole salamanders. They primarily live underground. He comes and lays in his water bowl sometimes but not primarily all of the time.
this might be the only video on animals that expert village has that gives correct information... exept or the part with the spagnum moss, dont use just that use a mixture of that and coco fiber or just coco fiber, i dont think just spagnum moss is a good idea theymight have trouble moving in it or eating it when feeding its just to hold humidit so only use a small mount of it
cool tank (if it is a real tank u can use) but dude... theyre wet lizards. its great to hav a bowl wif water but u gotta like.. spray their log thing cuz they like to sleep in damp areas too. and that tanks kinda small for them... id only have 1 in that thing.
maybe that's not their real tank, he probably uses it to show off the salamanders and their basic need, but still, that's bad influence on new salamander owners
ya lol... mine do that all the time.. i will open the lid and they will start jumping lol... sometimes they bite my finger and i cant get em to let go...lolz...
ok, so at work, one of the guys sucked up a salamander with our flood trucks in an old building....surprisingly...tha lil guy made it....and they brought him back....and now i have him....I dont know what type he is....ummm...hes kinda exactly like the tiger salamander (his markings) but just smaller.....ive been taking good care of him, petland sold me worms and eco-earth for him.. how can you tell what "breed" he is.. cause as i said..he looks like the "tiger" but is just smaller
Hi, I have a tiger salamander / water dog, where i guess it is still in its larvae state. the gills are no longer there so i am assuming that its now changing into a tiger salamander...how do you know when to take it out of the tank and put it into a dryer environment?
I was thinking about making a large 25 gal terrarium (half water and half land) for 2 tiger salamanders. I wanted the water portion to be 4" deep with an easy way to get back (onto dry land). I want it to have live moss, a waterfall, some guppies, ferns, drift wood, and some floating aquatic moss... The works! You think it would do fine in that? Or would the water just be a waste? Beside the eye-pleasing... Kinda like the one found at brianstropicals (.com)
i am going to be buying a tiger, an emperor newt, fire bellied newt and a red salmander. i might not get them all but i really want the tiger and the emperor.
i had one of these for a while he was old when i got him i had him about three years i just had one side at bout 2-3 inches of water and the other side gravel and moss he mostly stayed in the water and ate fish like crazy
The comments you post on a Expertvillage video, will not be Answered, because its not some personal account as you probs know, so one is really the ''owner'' of the account. Just wanted to say, no negative reaction or something :P
Also.. they shouldn't spend the vast majority of their time in water. They are probably doing so because of the sphagnum moss. They should spend the overwhelming majority of their time underground or in a cave because they are a mole salamander or a fossorial salamander.
Miguel, shut up, eros is right. Tiger Salamanders are a species of mole salamanders that usually only go back to water to breed. Don't believe us? Wikipedia or google tiger salamanders. Before saying others are full of crap make sure YOU know what you're talking about before making idiotic posts.
erm..sphagnum moss is BAD for tiger salamanders. It is acidic and can at least cause health problems, at worst it'll cause death. Coco fiber or EcoEarth is considered by most tiger keepers the best substrate or a half and half mix of coco fiber and potting soil. It retains water well, isn't acidic and unhealthy for the tiger and isn't harmful if accidentally ingested. Further more because they are a fossorial, burrowing animal its best to give them lots of dirt to dig in, usually 3-5 inches dirt
