I absolutely adored this movie. I totally wasn't expecting it to be so well written and acted as it turned out to be. It was funny, tragic, thought provoking and utterly fascinating. When people bitch about modern movies, they should really take a look at this one. Oh, and the scene with this song was just so heart breaking :(
The trailer, the marketing for In Bruges all made it out to be a typical 'buddy action comedy', like what's been done by Will Smith et al. The actual movie is so much deeper, so gripping and powerful - a story about redemption and finding purpose in life. The comedy is there as a device to humanise the characters. In Bruges is so much more than just another laugh machine.
@Y2KillerSPOOBLY Yeah the advertising really annoyed me. I was put off by it because it didn't look like my kind of movie so didn't see it for a while. I imagine so many others did the same thing and missed out on this masterpiece.
I'm listening to this in preparation for "The Reichenbach Fall" of BBC's Sherlock. This song makes me think of John Watson having to return to Baker Street after The Fall. Makes me sob. ;_;
so if you try to mug someone, and you are carrying a gun full of blanks, and you allow your gun to be taken off you, and then have said blank shot in your eye( which i imagine one has to get pretty close to do) then it sounds like your fault for being such a poof.
Hi people :) I am from Czech Republic :) and I want to say you big THANK YOU for this film !!!! It is the greatest film I ever saw ! ... before my dead I want see Bruges :) and Dublin :) ... I send greetings from Czech Republic ( sorry for my really bad english ! )
@feedbackrichie I wanted to say : I want to see Bruges at least once in my lifetime. And I do not care if it will be 50 years or 1 day before my death . :))))
In Bruges brought me here.. a brilliant fucking movie.. and the first time I saw it..and it got to this scene I was crying.. when Ken decided to jump off the tower..such a sad end to a great character.
The best part about the movie is that its shot brilliantly , and looks like the actors are just being themselves, and not forcing the comedy onto the audience... Great casting , well shot, great soundtracks, just Great movie... And this movie makes me wanna visit places like bruges all over Europe...
I love this movie, especially the part where Ken and Harry are having drinks and exchanging conversation, just like Robert De Niro and Al Pacino did in Heat... two enemies/rivals, having some drinks and having conversation just like old friends....
I can't figure this film out. It's my all time favourite, but I don't know if its a tragedy or a comedy. Scenes like Gleeson's death prove its both, I suppose.
@ilikecake48 I'm merely referencing the pivotal moment in the movie when the song was played. What does respect have anything to do with this? If you think this is an insult, I think you seriously need to grow a backbone and stiffen your lip.
@Timophey74@Timophey74 if you ever find yourself asking that question, it is often a signpost for deciding yourself. the other thing to consider (and i, for one, feel this way about the story) is that his ultimate survival be irrelevant to the greater work, and i think McDonagh felt similarly
And I'd accept any punishment she had for me... prison... death... 'cause at least in prison and at least in death, you know... I wouldn't be in fuckin' Bruges.
Not to bitch about dislikes or anything. But how the fuck does every single YouTube video get dislikes? Take this one for example. You see the brilliant movie, you hear this brilliant song (yes I know it from the movie, let it go), you check on YouTube for a good version. The title says "In Bruges Soundtrack - On Raglan Road The Dubliners". How the fuck does anyone not know what to expect? I don't get it that's all. Anyway thanks for posting this one.
@maagiapall Right, I hadn't considered that. But still silly to click the dislike in that situation I think. The title matches the content. It's high quality. Prehaps you don't like the song and that's fine but in my opinion it's a little uncalled for to click the dislike button unless you want to kind of 'warn' other people for the video being bad quality or messed up content or whatever, not to share your taste.
@micvrom Actually, There's been quite a few circumstances where I've clicked the dislike button by accident. Those two dislikes were likely accidents.
@micvrom Used a retarded joke that has captured comment section at EVERY single video at YouTube. And then started buggering some lad because of that. This is what is inexcusable.
The actors are all superb, and superbly cast, the score is a bit iffy at times (think Ralph feinnes crossing bridge on entrance to Bruges) but is complemented by an exceptional sountrack (yes, there is a difference between score and soundtrack)
The script is phenomenal, my personal favourite being "YOUR AN INANIMATE F$@KING OBJECT", and the comedy is downright hilarious. What a film.
The two Irish actors really complimented each other. I am so glad that two American/English actors were not used, imitating the Irish accent as that really bothers me. Nice touch using The Dubliners' song, captures the Irish simplicity of music in such a beautiful way.
must've watched this film about 30 times now over 2 years, no exaggeration, and still want to watch it. all together i've had 5 pints of beer and 6 bottles, no, 6 pints of beer and 7 bottles, and you know what, i'm not even pissed!! :)
"its all a bit elaborate isn't it? take the boy to hide out. take him to hide out where? take him to hide out in fookin' Bruges. you can hide out in Croydon."
@SuperSlyTime well in this context it doesn't mean monkey, it means dirty.
"monkey hookers" makes no fucking sense. it couldn't be a racial slur against the black girl either, because the other was white and ken was arguing against jimmy's racism, telling him about his wife being black.
I actually live in Bruges, when I listened to this music while seeing the scene it almost brought tears in my eyes, in a way it shows how beautifull Bruges is and yet it takes you away in Irish spirit. And though nobody would be able to still say a few words after falling from so high, it don't matter, it's the best scene.
"An Uzi? I'm not from South Central FUCKING Los Angeles. I didn't come here to shoot twenty black ten year olds in a fucking drive-by. I want a normal fucking gun for a normal fucking person"
Loved this movie! My dad and I watched this the other night. We haven't yet to date see a movie with such a dark sense of humour. His fave scene, was when Ray (Colin Farrell) answers the fat americans about the tower, like "What am I exactly trying to say? That you're a bunch of fooking elephants!" My dad just pissed himself laughing at that scene. This song really sets the movie well, very moving.
"Somehow I believe Ken that the balance will t...tip in the favor of culture, Like a big fat fucking retarded fucking black girl on a see-saw. Opposite, a Dwarf."
