I didn't know that you also trained personal protection... I was a decoy for the KNPV (policedog) with a full bite suit, and now a days i am a schutzhund decoy..

I'm sorry the dog passed away:(!!....

Can someone tell me why dogs are trained to bite a free hand (not the hand with a weapon) when he attacks???

I do not get it... It would be far more safer for dog if he would desable armed hand. I think.

Good question. It looks like this dog handler has screwed it all up. I know that many (if not most) police/guard dogs WILL go for the arm holding the weapon first.

I honestly think it was just an error of the trainer in this case.

This movie is about a sporting dog, not a police dog:)

Sport dogs are NEVER allowed to attack the hand with the 'weapon'... They are learned to bite into the sleeve and the sleeve is the reward (this dog is advanced so he doesn't win the sleeve anymore)...Hope this explains it:)

We use a sport dog in a presentation that we have to create some situations similar to Schutzhund and to a guard dog. That´s why all our videos can not be consider only schutzhund or police dogs training...

When you train your dog with bite suite the dog can bite any place of the enemy body, specially the hands... But in this video (just a dobermann presentation to Brazilian breeders) in order to give agility to the helper we decide to use the sleeve and as this dog has a very strong bite we never could train him to bite the hand of the person with the weapon...
