  • yes, i love her too!

  • " for retarded adults" thats really nice since half of the population who reads comic books are between 25 and 40 . She also has anti american views. Says its our fault criminals from her country held our people , Im not interested one bit in her life.

  • @bluestrapsify Did you actually listen to what she said, though? She said that until she was given a copy of "Maus," she'd believed what the general public seems to think, that comics are only for kids, adolescents or "retarded adults." She's saying the masses think that. She's not saying SHE believes that anymore.

And actually your attitude seems to represent exactly what she doesn't like about SOME Americans...an unwillingness to listen to people who don't share your views.

  • @bluestrapsify She's right...western culture is retarted in many ways..even western people admit that...Learn from what she says....

  • Did anyone else think that is was bizarre to see the birth mark on Marjane's character's nose on the poster, and then on Satrapi's actual nose at the same time?

It connected the the book to real life for me all of the sudden. :|

  • Persepolis is my favorite movie! GO IRAN

  • She read Maus! I love this woman! I knew Persepolis was influenced by Maus, I knew it the moment I saw it. I'm so glad to hear her confirm it.

  • She is amazing.

  • I've just read Persepolis and it is really amazing. Congratulations, Marjane, for your talent and courage. Greetings from Brazil.

  • @mclg1000 same from America.

  • what comic book is she talking about when she says after she read "Mouse" around 1:37?

  • Comment removed

  • "I read mouse ....and I was...and got a slap in my face"

  • I think it might be this one, "Maus : A Survivor's Tale" by Art Spiegelman, does anyone know for sure?

  • I highly, highly believe it is "Maus" because that ties so well into her sentence about how it revolutionizes comics. "Maus" completely goes against the stereotype of dumbed-down/time-wasting comics.

  • thanks!

  • @sammem1 I know this is late, but it's for sure Maus because she even clearly says "Maus, Art Spiegelman" at around 1:20

  • Yea that's it.

  • "Maus", its a comic.

  • "Maus" by Art Spiegelman. That comic definitely redefines comics. An amazing read about the Holocaust.

  • "Maus" by Art Spiegelman. Kind of a memoir. It's about Art getting his father's story of being a Jew during Nazi rule. Done in graphic novel format, and Art depicts Jews as mice while Nazis are cats. Beautifully written, and really pushed the graphic novels genre into a more serious medium.

  • Mouse, by Art Spiegleman. Similar style fo Satrapi's.

  • it is Maus

  • the bottom line is - she has a complex superiority

  • she strays off topic and yet you get sucked into any little story she tells. i just love marjane ^^

  • I saw her today in Philadelphia. She didn't really say anything;strayed off target all night long. But the audience laffed at basically everything she said.I think it is those eyebrows.

  • what is a good graphic novel? aside from watchmen

  • Maus,

    Jimmy Corrigan

    The Smartest Kid On Earth,

    Black Hole,

    Palestine,

    Berlin,

In The Shadow Of No Towers,

  • thanks for being helpfull ,thats rare nowadays.

  • Anytime.

  • Actually, no. It's people like you who make iranian look uncivilised.

  • ya ur right, sucking america's dick make us civilised.

And been strong and unafraid of them make us uncivilised

  • Swearing and calling women sluts makes you look uncivilised. You are probably young that I understand, but to be civilised is to rise above anger and other petty emotions. You can bear rage in your heart but expressing it through swearwords and violence just make you seem primitive and brutal.

  • lol who are you ? Mr. America who want to attack my emotions and anger with some non-sense words ? just like in their movies ? Agha face it , Iran will stay Islamic Republic for ever, and every day it is becoming stronger. If the people of Iran didn't like it, there will be a coup d'etat just like the dumb shah times. No one wants that because you are minorities who try to sell your country for americans by trying to create some fake scenarios on your US-Zioniste supported movies.

  • Wow. Very profound ;)

  • Also sucking mullah's dick is just so much better. Persepolis is what Iran once was.

  • euh the mullah are Iranian's, idiot.

  • Since when?

  • comics are for children wow she should read watchmen! lol

  • Wrooooooooong....

    Comics =/= superheroes.

Seriously--what you see in the sunday paper and in *MOST* Marvel/DC-type comics (DC moreso) barely scratch the surface of what comics can be. Just because they are often marketed to children and are quite often stupid (looking at you, DC), doesn't mean that they HAVE to be. They can express depth and meaning just like any other media. You aught to check out Persepolis, Maus (Pulitzer prize winner, btw), and Blankets...

  • yes thats what i was saying my freind i guess you missunderstood my comment lol british humour.

  • Ah, okay. Sorry I snapped, then. XD

  • no worries my freind

  • but yes comics / graphic novels can acheive so much in depth story teling.

  • She's just as charming and funny as I imagined.

  • That story is my our story, what happended to us???

  • she rocks and her books are just great, kheyli khoob e!

  • yes i read all persepolis and is very interesting book ..

  • im proud of u Marjane, u showed the disasters our nation has sauufered after that bloody revolution in the best way.

  • @hiarvandi the history is made by her own experience? I wonder beucase I saw it on HBO 2 days ago and I love it!!! My father is from the Libano and even I don't see him too often.. I try to understand their culture but is hard to believe that the religion put woman less than zero....

  • @ScarlettRoberts whatever you see in the movie is based on her own personal experiences and what she has experienced during the revolution and war time. that's exactly the point which makes it much interesting. and yes, that cruel Islamic regime in our country has done everything to degrade women. even though, our Iranian culture (non-Islamic) is very liberal and pro-women's freedom. Just look at her and you see the difference between the true Iranian culture and islamic culture.

  • @hiarvandi how are things now for the irani people? is it hard to be a freethinker? women, atehist and homosexuals sitll continue to suffer, or do you see a change in the future?

  • @TeoTanek well, under this regime women, atheists and homosexuals will never feel safe and equal with the others, but i am happy our nation is alive, our opposition groups and reformers inside the country are so active even though, they are constantly arrested and even tortured but they continue to protest against the tyrannic policies of the regime and they are hopeful, so am i, and people like Marjane are there to show the world what is going on in our country. God bless her

  • damnit... i saw her movie and her book... is wonderfull.. i cryed at the final of the book.. is so wonderfull i love she's history( and like she.. i have bad inglish =D)

  • Not so bad. :-) I could read it just fine.

And I totally agree about the movie and book.

  • I think it would be best if all could read the french version of her book- there are so many times where I wanted to burst into tears and yet there are some really REALLY funny moments!! She is a unique and very very original human being!

  • Yeah, my favorite bit was when she called the nuns prostitutes.

  • i can't wait to see her movie. i just read an article about her in the guardian that starts with "marjane satrapi gusts into the room like a hurricane.. she is dressed in black and is beautiful in a cubist way-Picasso could have sculpted her" She's so inspirational and i really wan to read her books.

  • Persepolis is the name of the ancient city in Persia. She must choose anther name for her movie.

  • Persepolis is what Iran once was.

  • and you need to get a fucking life rather than living on Youtube.

  • I just saw the movie "Persepolis" the other night. It was a beautiful work: it made me laugh, it was interesting, and there's something about animation that culls one's attention. I also felt sympathy for all the characters and was only too happy to absorb the events that changed Marjane's life.

  • How exactly is she a disgrace? Have you even read her books or seen the movie?

I admire Satrapi immensely and love her work.

  • You truly live up to your You Tube name!

  • shes not being selfish, she's basically writing a history book through first person.

  • i'm sure there are many famous ancient iranians to be proud of, the problem is that the modern theocracy strangles creativity and expression, so it's not surprising that creative iranians like Satrapi criticise the regime. traditional culture only goes so far: I'm English, but would I want to live under a medieval English King? No, because I could be burnt at the stake for looking at someone the wrong way.

  • great writer! She's inspiration to all

  • i love her sweet accent, so typical Iranian.

  • Marjane Satrapi is awesome.

  • Inspiring.

  • A great lady.
